Laswell, Greg - Half A Person Lyrics
Call me morbid, call me pale
I've spent six years on your trail
Six long years on your trail
Call me morbid, call me pale
I've spent six years on your trail
And if you have five seconds to spare
Then I'll tell you the story of my life
Sixteen, clumsy and shy
I went to London and I
I booked myself in at the Y.W.C.A
I said "I like it here, can I stay?
I like it here, can I stay?
Do you have a vacancy for a back-scrubber?"
She was left behind and sour
And she wrote to me equally dour
She said "In the days when you were hopelessly poor
I just liked you more"
And if you have five seconds to spare
Then I'll tell you the story of my life
Sixteen, clumsy and shy
I went to London and I
I booked myself in at the Y.W.C.A
I said "I like it here, can I stay?
I like it here, can I stay?
Do you have a vacancy for a back-scrubber?"
Call me morbid, call me pale
I've spent too long on your trail
Far too long chasing your tail
And if you have five seconds to spare
Then I'll tell you the story of my life
Sixteen, clumsy and shy - that's the story of my life
Sixteen, clumsy and shy: the story of my life
That's the story of my life
That's the story of my life
That's the story of my life, the story of my life
That's the story of my life
That's the story of my life
That's the story of my life
That's the story of my life
That's the story of my life

kitsch!
Not sure this emo vocal take really works here, with the mordantly funny lyrics.
Couldn't agree more, people don't know what they're covering, they hear the chords and thinks its a sad song, Morrissey is quite a comedic writer, people miss the irony.
The best of this version is its cover, so the smiths. The singer is great and sings amazing, but kinda not feeling that smiths interpretation.
💛🙏
I don't think the tone works. Half a Person has some really funny lyrics - rather lost in this version! Nevertheless, he's made it sound beautiful

Soft sadness pouring out of his words ♥
For some reason, I like this version better, I guess it's because the melancholy sound of it and his voice suits so beautifuly to the sad words. I feel Morrissey in this version of the song, better.
A nice remake. Easy like a glass of wine. ♥
