LaRue, Stoney - Box #10 Lyrics

Well out of southern Illinois, come a down home country boy
He's gonna make it in the city playin guitar in the studio
Well he hadn't been there an hour, when he met a Broadway flower
You know she took him for his money and she left him in a cheap motel

Well now it's easy for you to see, that that country boy is me
Tell me how'm I ever gonna break the news to the folks back home
Well I was gonna be a big success, but that's all ended up a mess
And in the process, I got messed up too

Hello mom and dad I hate to call ya collect
But I ain't got a cent to my name
Well I'm sleepin in the hotel doorway
And tonight they say it's gonna rain
And if I could only get me some money
I'd be back on my feet again
Send it in care of the Sunday Mission Box Number 10

Well out of southern Illinoos, still worry about their boy
But this boy's goin' home soon's he gets the fare
Well as soon as I got the bread, I got a pop upside my head
You know they left me in an alley, took my money and my guitar too

Hello mom and dad I hate to call ya collect
But I ain't got a cent to my name
Well I'm sleepin in the hotel doorway
And tonight they say it's gonna rain
And if I could only get me some money
I'd be back on my feet again
Send it in care of the Sunday Mission Box Number 10

Solid piece of garbage. Don't do Jim this way. Really trying not to hate, the musicians behind him sound incredible, but if you're going to do it, do it right, please man.

  6. M.... ....

  16. C.... W....

Grew up in southern Oklahoma, made a life in south Louisana, love this kind of music, love me some Stoney Larue.

  17. W.... S....

I love Jim Croce and had my doubts about a relatively unknown cover of this amazing song, but I must admit Stoney kind of put his own touches on it and delivered a great song. I'm impressed and will continue to see what else he comes up with. It's hard to impress a Croce fan with a cover but well done.

  23. i.... ....

    Awesome cover

  24. B.... P....

Stoney larue is one badass dude

  25. m.... ....

I always knew this would work as country. I used to do it more as Johnny Cash. This almost feels (musically) like The Band

    m.... ....

It's pretty obvious him and Cody Canada were largely influenced by The Band. Specifically The Last Waltz. Between the two of them they've covered The Weight, Ophelia, Forever Young, and Who Do You Love...4 songs off the album. Stoney also covers Van Morrison, and you can't not hear Muddy Waters in Stoney's "Well well well"s. Any fan of Stoney that hasn't watched The Last Waltz is missing out. It so clearly influenced a lot of our favorite music.

good info because it confirms my theory : )
