Yeah dude, Randy sounds like he's crying at the end of the song. Pure fucking metal when the vocalist feels what was written. It's not always about headbanging & rocking out. Sometimes it's pure, raw emotion that makes the difference.

One of the best metal songs of all time. Intense. Randy is majestic to the voices. Sensual and powerful. The violin arrangements give it a lot of epic. Perfect song. I am looking forward to seeing you on Slayer's farewell tour.

The lyrics are kinda like the Macbeth play. (Spoilers?) If you think about it he said he was nothing but he then became the king, King Me. And then the lyrics are about killing others randomly, like how the King, Macbeth is trying to cover how he became the king by killing people who have ideas. I dont know this may be just me.

Pretty sure its about how in an effort to be in the right you must stop people that are trying to do the same thing but with different answers. You have to have it so their answers are the wrong ones or else your answers are. and because so many people have to do this against each other the effort to king me is killing me. No one will ever be "right" because everyone else would be wrong. And what I mean by "right" is, correct, moral, the word of god. Whatever you need to do to feel self righteous. That renders someones way of life, false and invalid, untruthful etc. if you ruthlessly claim validity over other people you are damaging the way they look at their beliefs. In other words you literally hurt their faith. This tends to make people feel self conscious and even depressed. Narcissists are the worst offenders. Anybody who has suffered from the inner workings of their own mind, anybody who has seen their life crumbling around them with no one to blame but themselves and their own selfish nature will understand this song all too well.

1. He survived his battle with himself over addiction to drugs, left to be imprisoned in his life long battle with overcoming the urges to relapse.
2. The majority of this entire album speaks of opiates and internal conflict, so generally leans towards him wanting to see himself in a new light, and won't sleep again until he finds it.
3. Realizing you're a slave to your own substance abuse is very, very eye opening. And going as far as to say that you are no man's slave (including yourself) is to throw down your habit and everything tied to it in order to free yourself.
4. Living in a fog is almost always referred to when having cloudy judgement from all addiction. Love, sex, attention, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, etc. When you realize you lead the lifestyle of an addict it's hard to overcome when you are still truly "living in the cloud" of said addiction. Still surrounded by what is tied to the self you are trying to change.
(my favorite, which has helped me in recovery on numerous occasions)
5. Nostalgia grinding the life from today... When you are working or at school and can't seem to get memories of things that make your past seem bright out of your head. The present always dies in future memories, is the moment during your nostalgia that you realize your brain is still under the permanent influence that drugs leave on your brain. You imagine your life in a light without getting high and wasting away through dope, and see that the future can be brighter than what you have now if you put forth the effort.

Obviously I have a history of addiction and drug abuse, so this is truly what this speaks to me. But it is always up to interpretation. :)

Definitely a Mark Morton Song. I can gurantee that. He is well known to write completely out of the box song in each album. i.e - Descending, remorse is for the dead. MM is probably one of the most influential metal artist of all time. He brings jazz and other elements into metal. Truly masterpiece.......
