Lagwagon - Know It All Lyrics

Look at the world in disbelief
You used to follow now you lead
College has enlightened you
And you are proud to be different
And like different bands different types
You ain't nobody's fool
It's like certain bands remind you of someone you hated
'Cause they didn't wear the right clothing
And there's only one true fashion
Alot of the bands on the college charts are
great bands until they get signed.
Then you hate them
It's such bullshit -
you used to love them you hypocrite

Know it all
Know it all
Did you really listen to that song?
Could you ever write what you call wrong?

I remember you and I listening to bands that we liked
Only the songs mattered to you
But now you're a D.J. and preaching that hype
"Corporate Rock Sucks You know, college radio enlightens you"
It's supposed to serve as a means to expose new bands
without prejudice, but it makes no sense
Safe harbor for the underground
'Til the alternative becomes the popular sound
The bands are good
'til they make enough cash to eat food and get a pad
Then they're sold out and their music is cliché
Because talent's exclusive to bands without pay

Know it all
Know it all
Did you really listen to that song?
Could you ever write what you call wrong?

Know it all

Some bands just kick a lot of ass for decades and still stand firm on their initial reasons to become musicians in bands. Some to be millionaires and some for the love of the music.Lagwagon seems to stay true to the initial reason why they started this in the first place. For this I have tons of respect and have remained a fan for over 20 years.

  11. Alex Banks

"Could you ever write what you call wrong? Know it all!" One of the great lyrics of all time.

    Sirris

    Right not write?

    Gummy McFatstacks

@Sirris It's like this guy that hates on music, so it's "Could you ever WRITE what you call wrong?"

I used to have the same sentiment
(baaaaaaaaaack, way back, back in the day)
with pop punk bands that the "elite" of my peer group would say were bullshit, despite the fact that I KNEW they didn't play any instruments, didn't understand music theory, or *attempt* to write their own songs.

I bought this out of a paper order form in the 90's and waited nearly 2 months to receive it by mail from the U.S. to Australia I got the currency rate mixed up so Fat just sent me a heap of stickers and a few posters and shit to make up for it.

Nah, just kidding. I had the Fat Music 1 back in the day. :)

  18. Crash81!!

I love this band and this song. But there is one point in the song that, as an "old school punk", for lack of a better word, is problematic -that is tolerating corporate rock. I agree that punk bands should make a hell of a lot more money than they did/ and do. In the early 80s bands like Black Flag, DOA, Necros and so many others made little to nothing off the records and even less when touring - on tour they were often lucky to find a decent meal, a place to stay for the night, gas money to make to the next gig, mush less any spending money. But that didn't stop them. They also play in towns that were not even on the punk rock map of cities with notable scenes. They would go to places where there was only a very small scene but the kids would do their best to cover provide what they could for them. These bands definitely deserved to make much more money. But commercial rock is an entirely different beast. Most of us got into punk because we despised everything about commercial rock . We did so for good reasons, one of which was the outrageous sums of money rock stars made and the resulting life styles they lived - these were largely self-indulgent, socially irresponsible, sexist, etc . . . There was nothing good about commercial rock with a few exceptions. Moreover, I can think of no justifiable reason that anyone should make millions of dollars - most of which they would blow on bullshit stuff - when we, or the US at large, has people barely making it financially, living paycheck to paycheck, and still hardly getting by. And I'm talking about people who are employed as well, not welfare recipients but I sympathize with many of them. I don't exactly know what the band means on this issue - if they are talking about making a decent and comfortable living, then I'm down. If their talking about making nonsensically high incomes then no, that's wrong, its wrong for anyone regardless of their occupation. Also I don't think it is absolutely necessary to hook up with a major label to make a good living - Lagwagon in fact hasn't, I believe their label is Fat Wreck Cords owned by Fat Mike. In any case I'm not going to support anyone who is filthy rich, There is no innocent and admirable way to make that kind of money - those that do are usually fucking someone around, and that someone is more often than not US. So I still say Fuck Corporate Rock and may they all die a "Long and painful death" (MDC). Kill All Rock Stars

    richard white

    Crash81!! Nicely put!

    Fallen Beret

I think the point of the song isnt about tolerating "Corporate Rock" per say. It is about Punk know it alls that just started to get into the scene that look down on any band that starts making a little bit of money. The part about college radio really shows that. The very bands that got these know it alls to start listening to punk are the very bands that these new punks start to hate. Essentially these wannabe punks hate on any punk band that starts making some money weather it be by signing with a major or as an indie. guess they all dont know that ramones, sex pistols, clash all were on majors lol. As long as a band does what they want and makes the music they want id dont see any reason for them not to make a good living off it. thats the biggest middle finger to society if there ever was one.
