Ok so everyone’s saying this song was supposed to be a money grab in the movie but I think not. My interpretation of it was that Allie was always very true to herself, she sung the songs she wanted to, produced beautiful ballads, tried to offtrack dancers and stood up to her producers and stood up to pop culture many times. She was a trooper. Bradley however, I feel like one of the many elements to his character death was that he felt like people weren’t as interested in him as an artist anymore with all of allys new success, so he had a warped idea of what he felt like he needed to say or what ally should have been saying. The why did you do that song she did in the film was a definite money grabber but it was also a fun pop song that she probably wrote with a light heart, this song when listening to the lyrics I feel definitely showed she had more to say as an artist- same with all the songs she sung with Bradley.
