Labelle - Miss Otis Regrets Lyrics

Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today
Madam Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today
And she's sorry to be delayed
But last evening down at lover's lane she strayed

Madam Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today

When she woke up and found that her dream of love was gone
Madam, she ran to the man who had lead her so far astray
And from under her velvet gown
She drew a gun and shot her lover down

Madam Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today

When the mob came and got her and dragged her from the jail
Madam, they strung her up on the willow across the way
And the moment before she died
She lifted up her lovely head and cried

"Madam, Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch
Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today"

My friends and I saw Momma Patti Thursday eve. This was a song that she said had been on her mind and she had to sing it. I have basically all of her music (from Patti LaBelle and The Bluebelles on..) and knew this song was recorded (or at least a concert staple) as they became Labelle. It's not on the 2 Warner Brothers' albums so Thank you for posting this!!

Labelle's unique take on an old Cole Porter song.  This interpretation would floor him.

+Bronxboy47 Have you ever heard Bette Midler's version. It will floor you. :-)

Bette Midler version was also epic. "Hello in there" never charted, still a great song.

+Art Blanch I find Bette's version of "Memories of You" also extremely moving.

Kirsty MacColl and the Pogues did my one of favorite versions.
