Kweli, Talib - Guerilla Monsoon Rap Lyrics

[Kweli talking]
Yeah...
Yeah! That's what I'm talkin about!
Let's do it... Kanye West, c'mon turn me up and
Black Thought, c'mon turn me up and
Pharoahe Monch, c'mon turn me up and
Talib Kweli in the house with

[Hook: Kanye West]
Guerrilla monsoon rap - all the shorties like "who dat?"
Got the whole crowd like "how ya do dat?"
Nigga you, get smacked 'til ya blue black
And ya crew, give me dap like true dat
We come through and all the shorties like "who dat?"
Got the whole crowd like "how ya do dat?"
Nigga you, get smacked 'til ya blue black
And ya crew, give me dap like true dat

[Black Thought]
Yo, I hit these emcees with the grip of death like I was a Vulcan
Ain't a lot of "ifs" an "ands", it's just straight talkin
It's hard to swallow at times, so take portions
Bitin off more than you can chew, create offense
Emcee species endangered like dolphins
Rappers is spittin nails into they own coffins (c'mon)
Hear come the Dundee moves rocket-launchin (yeah)
Black Thought, quit playin him close and back up off him

[Talib Kweli]
Kweli -- spruce to the tree, Bruce to the Lee
Favorite emcee, that your favorite rapper used to be
One by one I knock 'em out like Schoolly D - my rhymes is eulogy
A flea could move a tree, before ya think ya movin me
I black and blue emcees - actin new to me, get smacked stupidly
That lack skills, like the black community lack unity (uh)
Still my rhymes heard like Ali DePhrase
Step off the stage to shouts of "Kweli boomayyay!!"

[Pharoahe Monch]
See these four emcees came to get down
Rearrange the rap game, change ya whole sound
Nigga YOU, got ta, understand the plot ta
Movin and groovin and always improvin alot-ta
I'll outfox the, average Porsche ya Boxster talk
Break the bank on some old Frank Sinatra (New York...)
Slash Chi-Town, slash Philly
Check the blast from Genevo, you can get slapped silly

[Hook]

[Black Thought]
Okay... my sound drenches, each of the five senses
And hold the shock value of electrified fences
It's truth or consequences, ride wit us or against us
Is you a dedicated soldier, or you a princess, dog?
I'm in it to win it and not for the wealth
Got a crib with a Grammy and a gat on the shelf
Nan nigga competition, gotta battle myself
And me and Kweli on a mission, gettin Pharoahe for help

[Talib Kweli]
From natives walkin in trailor tears to players sippin Belvedere
We always comin well prepared, and all my dogs' smellin fear
PLUS, even my niggaz from the Bede say you hella-scared
Truth or consequences, and all senses be well-aware
Your style - under-developed there, hell if I care
What hardship you claim to see, but I can tell by your stare
Nigga you fugazi, sayin ya crew blazin
like sayin Miss Cleo is a true Jamaican, we makin...

[Pharoahe Monch]
Guerrilla monsoon rap, smell the fumes, get in tune wit it
When I attack your city, y'all gon' think Dr. Doom did it
Spit it like white trash in seed-spittin contests
With a vendetta that sent a betta letter bomb to Congress
I'm pissed - cumulus clouds of ominous
Words of the Thor, the rawness that'll restore ya calmness
Unless, you wanna be leg and armless
That's parapaleg' for those who believe in bomb threats

[Hook]

[various ad-libs til fade]

  12. g.... ....

I vividly remember this specific moment in hip hop. It was the year after the big Takeover-Ether battle, and everybody seemed to be collaborating with everybody. Nas and Jay both on the Scarface album. New golden child of production Kanye producing Scarface, Jay-Z, AND Talib Kweli. Talib having Xzibit, DJ Quik, Monch, Thought, Kanye, Smif-N-Wessun and everybody on his album. Eminem dropping the dopest song of his career and having everybody from Nas to Jay to Rakim to Gang Starr on his 8 Mile soundtrack. You had Missy Elliott workin' it, you had Snoop who was reinventing himself with Pharrell beats. And then Nas came with the Lost Tapes AND God's Son. Get Rich Or Die Tryin' had not dropped yet. It seemed like the mainstream and the 'underground', and the East and the West and the south, were all embracing each other and just making dope music. The possibilities for hip hop seemed endless.

    g.... ....

And then it all went to hell

    g.... ....

Man dope, do you have a blog ?! Interesting perspectives !

  13. K.... G....

"Nann nigga competition, got to battle myself... got a crib wit a Grammy and a gat on the shelf" Talib Kweli beasted on this track, but Black Thought had the illest line right there.

  27. F.... T....

Memories Sweet Memories I've been a Fan of this Man Since "97" Although At the Time I was too young to Grasp my mind around his Lyricism I Found myself Loving his Aggressive smooth Open Mic Delivery But once I got Older and Revisited his Music my Appreciation was even more Welcoming from "BlackStar" to "Gravitas" he's been Top Tier, His Track Record in terms of "Quality" & "Quantity" Could be Comparable To GhostFace Killah's Beast Shit Kanye Was Sooooooo Raw with his Production he still is Here and there but Years ago he only Brought it the Way ODB liked it lol Talib UNDERRATED Punchline Rapper Black Thought Slept on Rhyme Flower and Pharoahe is Just an UNFUKWITABLE BrainShattering Wordplay Specialist Overall Classic Track....Hell Even Canibus Had a Blend on this Shit Here......

  28. J.... D....

Damn Talib released nothing but fire for like 5 years. Glad he was my favorite rapper at the time, 90s rap isn't shiny suits and Biggy v. Tupac for me. Tru head were here

    J.... D....

+Jonathan Dudley Talibs still releasing nothing but fire... but hes technically not really a 90s rapper all of Talib Kweli albums have be released in the 2000s except for the Blackstar album which came out in '99.... this specific song from your so called favorite rapper at the time was released in 02 not the 90s lol

    J.... D....

+Tyson Hook Talib was releasing on Raukus as early as 98 doing shows in Cincy and Ny before that. Some of us go beyond the albums. 12" press is what it was about

    J.... D....

    Jonathan Dudley amen bro!

    J.... D....

    True dat

  29. y.... m....

my, introduction to hip hop in a nutshell

    y.... m....

    YaKuZa moon. Me too

  30. v.... w....

even my homies in the bay' say you hella scared...

  31. M.... C....

These 3 emcee's are so ill. Black Thought did his thing on this song.

  32. J.... A....

Could never go wrong with these 3 MC's.

  33. M.... H....

@boxybrown6900 Think of him as a gateway drug. Thats the basic idea i'm trying to convey.

  34. K.... C....

@MatthewHoustonMusic How would todays youth not no about the golden era without lupe? Your given him too much credit.

  35. T.... ....

@jcolekendricklamar You are INSANE fam!" Lupe Fiasco is the greatest lyricist of all time"???????????GET the fuck outta here man, i 'm done......Oh, and go peep Big Daddy fucking Kane, Rakim, G Rap etc.. cats from 20 yrs ago who's lyricism would kill 99% of rapper/"MC's" out today! Aye that's your opinion, but i can't take you seriously no more b. NAS????? Is he not on Lupe's level either? WOW...i'm out bruh, you win...SMH

    T.... ....

You sleeping on Lupe Fiasco tho.

  36. T.... ....

@cnoyes82 AZ, MOP, NAS, WU TANG, TALIB, MOS, ROOTS, ORGANIZED KONFUSION, OUTKAST, A TRIBE CALLED QUEST, LEADERS OF THE NEW SCHOOL, BLACK SHEEP, NAUGHTY BY NATURE, SOULS OF MISCHIEF, PHARCHYDE, PUBLIC ENEMY , EPMD, MAIN SOURCE, MIC GERONIMO, BLACK MOOON,SMIF N WESSUN, HELTAH SKELTAH, LORDS OF THE UNDERGROUND, REDMAN, DEL, OC, BIG L, 2 PAC BIG PUN, BUSTA SOLO SHIT, DMX, JAY Z, FUGEES, LL, KANE, RAKIM (ALL PUT OUT SOLID SHIT IN THE 90'S) AND IM LEAVING OUT ABOUT 10-20 OTHER ARTIST!!!!. 90'S RULE

  37. M.... H....

@TheCardsfan2 Don't be a sheeple and blame my opinion on the media. Fact remains, lupe bridged the gap for todays youth. Him, Cole and kendrick. If it wasnt for them, a lot of people MY AGE would have no idea about the golden age. Sadly. And this cd is dope for sure...but its not F&L....F&L is one of the best albums, content, flow, and beat choice wise. Beats are a huge part of a song..id know, im a producer lol.

  38. T.... ....

@MatthewHoustonMusic what's that mean? The Roots haven't made any good albums? Pharoe Monch hasn't made any good albums(Stress, the 2nd Organized Konfusion joint was bananas!!) AZ's Doe or Die is classic...Aziatic is pretty damn good too. And this Talib cd is classic in itself.LUpe aint the only MC makin hot albums. That's just what the media tells you

  39. T.... ....

@MrCommenterguy not a new MC out that "kills" Jon Connor!!! His beats can be suspect at times, but lyrically he's never weak. Check out "Keep goin Reek" from Reek Da villain. THat's probably the hottest joint on that mixtape, he got more, but that one sticks out for me....

  40. M.... H....

@TheCardsfan2 Its not about who can rap with lupe...aint nobody making albums like F&L and the cool

  41. H.... ....

one of yes best beats definitely, this shit is so hard

  42. I.... M....

"Yo, I hit these emcees with the grip of death like I was a Vulcan
Ain't a lot of "ifs" an "ands", it's just straight talkin
It's hard to swallow at times, so take portions
Bitin off more than you can chew, create offense"

Black Thought is a fucking lyrical problem.

    I.... M....

Immaculate Mic i think its create orphans*

    I.... M....

"Rappers are spitting nails into their own coffins"

    I.... M....

Tried to tell 'em since "do you want more?"

  43. J.... ....

@TheCardsfan2 Lupe is ill, but yeah your right his last album was shit.. still think he's one of the best emcees out no doubt.. J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Big K.R.I.T definitely the future of hip-hop..

  44. K.... K....

@TheCardsfan2 Kendrick Lamar is the truth

  45. L.... V....

@TheCardsfan2 You're right, Lasers was trash!!

  46. T.... ....

Hope i dont offend any Lupe stans, but who on this song can't hang rhyme for rhyme w/Lupe? If dude came out in the early 90's he'd be just another MC. Shit AZ>>Lupe IMO...Dude supposed to save hip hop? I got more hope in Jon Connor, Reek Da Villain, Kendrick Lamar, JCole, etc... Lupe's new album is commercial garbage. I'm sure some stans will come after me for this.....

  47. S.... ....

    @tibiasuckness
    Yeah, Buckwild is dope too.

  48. h.... ....

@Andanijano kanye west beats 2001-2005 were pure dopeness. And MBDTF has pretty dope production too.

  49. M.... B....

@jvinson theres kanye in it too lol

  50. A.... ....

@ytowngreeneboy he did, the sample he used was I never had it so good by the chi lites

  51. D.... G....

@goatslayer100 kanye made the beat...i could b wrong

  52. i.... l....

@jvinson I think Kanye did the intro?

  53. S.... ....

    @rgrove319
It goes like this: Preemo, Pete Rock, RZA, Dilla, Large Professor, Dr Dre and then maybe Kanye.

  54. S.... D....

@jvinson kanye west, pharoahe monch, talib kweli, black thought =4 emcees...

  55. j.... ....

There are only 3 emcees on this song, but at the 1:24 mark Pharoe Monch says, "These 4 emcees came to get down. Who was the 4th emcee supposed to be? Common maybe?

    j.... ....

Kanye West is on the hook and made the instrumental. Talib was Kanye's mentor back in the day

    j.... ....

jvinson no theres another version wit canabis at the end

  56. P.... ....

@tlofee STRAIGHT UP & THROUGH DA ROOF....

    L.... V....

    TheLastBarbedWire to be fucking honest

    L.... V....

Check out rapid eye movement. That will blow your mind.

    L.... V....

SeriousDonnie, came here to say the same thing. Shit is unbelievable. Monch and Thought's verses are fuckin nuts.

Kweli has a dope guest spot on that album, too.
