I heard a story that Kristofferson was told this song was slightly too long to fit in the time he was given for this performance and that he kept going over the allotted time so he decided to speed up the tempo for part of the third section of the song. You can hear it after the first time he sings loving her was easier than anything I'll ever do again and he starts grinning.
