Kris Kristofferson - Jody And The Kid Lyrics
She would meet me in the mornin', on my way down to the river
Waitin' patient by the Chinaberry tree
With her feet already dusty, from the pathway to the levee
And her little blue jeans rolled up to her knees
Tryin' hard to copy everything I did
But I couldn't keep from smilin', when I'd hear somebody sayin'
Looky yonder there goes Jody and the kid
Even after we grew older, we could still be seen together
As we walked along the levee holdin' hands
For as surely as the seasons, she was changin' to a woman
And I'd lived enough to call myself a man
And she often lay beside me, in the coolness of the evenin'
And at times when she was sleepin', I would smile when I'd remember
How they use to call us Jody and the kid
Now the world's a little older, and the years have changed the river
'Cause there's houses where they didn't used to be
And on Sundays I go walkin', down the pathway to the levee
With another little girl who follows me
And it makes the old folks smile, to see her tag along beside me
Doin' little things the way her mama did
But it gets a little lonesome, when I hear somebody sayin'
Looky yonder, there goes Jody, and the kid

Kris Kristofferson Jody And The Kid Comments
This is one of my favorite songs♡♡♡
This is the first comment I have ever made on this site. I became a Kris fan in the '70s when I was living out in the Simpson Desert in outback Australia. And this is the song that helped me get through my few years out there. It was a strange mix that I always listened, Kris Kristofferson and Melanie Safka. I thought I would just share that.
Love this song and all of Kris' quote unquote unknown songs. I've sung "The silver tongued devil and I" so much now its my nickname and proud of it
Don’t think he’s ever wrote a bad song they’re all great 🥰💋💝🏴
It was this song that made me fall in love with Kris and his music, i was 7 years old the first time i heard this song. My Grand dad and i used to sing Kris songs together and in a way Kris reminds me of my grand dad, i can see him when i look at Kris and that makes me smile. :) My grand dad died in 1996 and in his funeral we playd sunday mornig coming down, it was his favorit song, i was singing this song to him the day he died. <3
Kris Kristofferson really appreciate always I love
I drew a picture of this album cover and my teacher commented on the hands. "Nice hands."
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a mad keen 75yo Aussie fan.
The first time I bought this album, it was on vinyl, and it was the late 70s. I was in jr. high. 30 years later, I found this song on a CD. I still love the song, the man, .
As I reflect in my less then wanting twilight this song reminding me of a girl Stacy Moore, how we were for a short time, and how we could have been but for my not jack assery. To peraprase another great Kris Kristofferson song, I suppose she seldom thinks about me now she has a family of her own. To peraprase again it's so hard to be alone.
And if she happens to read this, I like to finish, no you're a Punjob.
It ain't just a rumour, the man is an Oxford Rhodes Scholarship graduate in philosophy, don't it show in every set of lyrics...
"I have seen the morning burning golden on the mountains in the skies. Aching with the feeling of the freedom of an eagle when she flies." Personification, assonance eight times, Some internal mixed with three instances of alliteration. And it all makes sense; it blows my mind
Another Kris Kristofferson song, another favorite song.
This makes me someone, that could have been very special to me.
Reminds me soooo much of early Leonard Cohen. Wow.
She would meet me in the morning on my way down to the river
Waitin' patient by the China berry tree
With her feet already dusty from the pathway to the levee
And her little blue jeans rolled up to her knees
And I'd paid her no attention as she tagged along beside me
Trying hard to copy everything I did
But I couldn't keep from smiling when I'd hear somebody saying
Looky yonder there goes Jody and the kid
Even after we grew older we could still be seen together
As we walked along the levee holding hands
For as surely as the seasons she was changing to a woman
And I'd lived enough to call myself a man
And she often lay beside me in the coolness of the evening
Till the morning sun was shining on my bed
And at times when she was sleeping I would smile when I'd remember
How they used to call us Jody and the kid
Now the world's a little older and the years have changed the river
Cause there's houses where they didn't used to be
And on Sundays I go walking down the pathway to the levee
With another little girl who follows me
And it makes the old folks smile to see her tag along beside me
Doin' little things the way her mama did
But it gets a little lonesome when I hear somebody saying
Looky yonder there goes Jody and the kid
Beautiful!
milk bar music
Nádherná písnička, velmi procitena
I LOVE this so much thanks Kris
One of my favorite Kris songs. I've seen a couple of interpretations of the meaning but here's mine (for what it's worth). First verse: Jody is about 13, and "the kid" is 10 or so. Second verse: Jody is about 24 and "the kid" is about 21, and they're married. 3rd verse, Jody's wife has passed away from unknown causes, leaving behind Jody and his daughter. Jody is about 35, "the kid" is about 10.
Yep, i think you're correct....but like so many songs by Kristofferson, maybe it could also be interpreted as the end of a marriage.
I agree , I love this song . I’ve seen Kris 3 times and one was when he was with Rita . 😍
I don’t think anyone died! It’s the death of yesterday and sweet memories from the past he thinking about.
@danny waugh And on Sundays I go walking....sounds like that's when he has custody.
@0217ldp Or maybe he's taking the kid for a walk while mom cooks dinner.
The Captain. One of the greatest song writers of all time.
What another beautiful song
By kris kristofferson

What no drugs no anger no us against them? I'm 64. Never heard this till today, from one vet to another thank you Kris peace.
Saw Kris last night in Annapolis, MD. Just Kris and his guitar. He played this, and I cried.
I would, too ......
10-4 Rubber Ducky
First heard this when I bought the album in 1975. After all this time, I will be attending my first Kristofferson concert tomorrow night and I am hoping against hope that this song finds its way to the playlist.
This man writes fine songs.
LOOKE YONDER THERE GOES JODY AND THE KID .
Sunday Morning Coming Down GREATEST COUNTRY SONG EVER WRITEN
Brian Grant I wouldn't call it country more like rythem and sweet sweet smooth Music.
This is great !!
Roy Drusky recorded this and it was released on the country charts in the late 60"s
I had this album on vinyl a few years after it came out. Then I lost it somehow. Now, I've got a few of his albums, but really wanted songs like this back in my collection.
How can anyone give this a thumbs down?
The only reason I can think of is that they prefer the Roy Drusky version. Still doesn't make any sense.
No clue whatsoever why anyone would give a thumbs down....except for the reason given in a previous, Roy Drusky. First heard this gem about 45 yrs ago and Kris' version is still my fav one!
Haven't heard this in more than thirty years - is there a real story, how did she die? Kris just made a grown man cry. Fuck Dylan - kristofferson and Len Cohen greatest modern day songsmiths.
I agree...some songs just seem to reach down inside and grab your attention. Cohen and Kristofferson wrote some very sensual songs.
I think they were divorced because he said "on Sundays I go walking...with another little girl." He has custody on Sundays?
Sorry, 0217ldp but I think that line is dad with daughter :-(. Original 'kid' was wife who finally got her man, married and died leaving the two of them. That's the way I hear it :-(
0217ldp dude...,... you get it
.
Fantastic song..
So happy to find this song and the others from that amazing album I once had on vinyl and loved that album so much!! I was at the time very much into the prog rock and heavy rock type of music, but this album I cherished !!
Irene Enghardt
Irene Enghar
I have it on vinyl and Me and Bobby McGee.
Prostě nádherna píseň
That is one of the finest "unknown" songs of all time ! Such a smooth and beautiful creation !
this song is meaningful , so nice to hear about true love, this man is an artist of the best degree
i couldn't have said it better than you just did
what happened to the momma .??
Died in childbirth is the best possibility. Run off or killed are other possibilities . . . but I'm a romantic, and I think she died in childbirth.
I'm with you Lewis
condonmc doesn’t matter, it’s up to the listeners
Thank you
than you i have the album can't play it
wish they had videos in those days
i have the album i love this song thanks
still love this one
Hi Cindy, I wish she was still with me. As for being selfish for wanting your dad back with you again. Well, if you are selfish for wishing that, then I am selfish too for wishing I had my wife back with me again. She has been a resident of heaven for the last 26 years.
aww so heart breaking is your wife still with you ? So many people think my dad is in a better place but you know I wish with all my heart to have him with me again am I selfish ?
Weird synthetic cymbals in the background are kind a ruining it for me, and the harmonica is super corny.
I loved this song long before I met my wife but now it reminds me of only her!
My Mom and I must have listened to this song the whole album a million times.
ulster is a hard place to be
this is my song to my kids
x
My older brother loved Kris too. I remember as kids in the 70s, we checked a book out of the library that had the lyrics to his songs. We had several songs memorized before we ever heard them sang. I still remember going around singing "Darby's Castle." I am glad you have good memories of your dad from this music. I have good memories too.
My dad loved Kris Kristofferson and would play his songs often. This song is imprinted in me when I listen to it I think of my wonderful dad who is no longer with me . We love the memories Kris
My mom would sing this song with us in the car for nothing else Kris made my life wonderful ... Love you mom!!
I called my daughter Jody in 1975 when she was born - I loved the name and I loved the song!!!!
I MISS YOU CARRIE ANN!!
That is sweet. I hope you and your daughter stay strong through life. I believe they all await our arrival, and we will get there in our own time.
My wife loved this song, and now when I hear it, I think about my own little daughter that followed me around just like her momma did, and we anxiously await when we can be re-united with her. Now I change it to "lookie yonder there goes Billy and Diane. "
You have a right to your opinion, obviously, but you remind me of a truth Abraham Lincoln once said..."It is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt."
You are undoubtably an ass.
gay song
REMINDS ME OF MY CARRIE! I LOVE THIS SONG!!
