I've just discovered this song during yesterday's concert - definitely too late! I stood enchanted and hang on every single word. It was so emotional, magical, amazing! The lyrics are pure poetry and should be analysed as a poem at school.

My father's favourite saying 'shit happens' shaped my outlook on my troubles, taught me that it was okay to make mistakes. A steady hand to guide me and ears to listen, his mind always open.
My mother always says, "without sadness we would not know true happiness' taught me it was okay to feel sad, to cry scream and let out emotion. Most of all nothing can keep you down unless you give it that power.
My brothers told me from an early age, that 'there's always someone worse off than you' their words encouraged me to smile at strangers, that one small good deed can have a huge positive impact.
So I sit here today, typing this comment because I'm truly grateful for every positive and negative person I've had in my life.
Who knows maybe this might help someone smile? And if not then I apologise for my rant.

I have always been a huge fan of Kodaline but somehow I only heard this song first today. I really am speechless. At the same time this song makes my heart ache but also so happy, so full with life.. I think the meaning of this song is that you wouldn’t be where you are or who you are are right now if it wasn’t for all the people you came across in your life. It shows that every person who you come across whether they stick around for long or not long at all play an important part in the person you have become. You wouldn’t be where you are without your parents who taught you important things about life or made you feel certain ways, you wouldn’t be where you are if it wasn’t for your siblings who believe in you and support whatever you do. You wouldn’t be where you are without the people who you once called a friend or once called family. And you especially wouldn’t be who you are without your friends the people who lifted you up when you fell down the people who you’ve made so many memories with, that helped you go above and beyond your ambitions and goals. Such a meaningful and beautiful song!

The song makes me imagine a person who’s bedridden and is close to dying, they’re old and have lived and experienced life. They’re looking at old pictures and videos of all the important people in their life, and they’re remembering all the important things they did for them. And it ends with the old person with a tear runnng down their cheek as they close their eyes for the very last time.
