@Ermerger16 I think that it's a metaphor to the relationship ending. He's saying gold can't rust and either can the relationship.

+Questionable Gamer You can kind of get the meaning with the "I think I started to see through you". What he means when he says "Cuz gold can't rust" is that he viewed the subject as gold (aka beautiful, perfect)...but then they started to rust (aka become a worse person) and now he realizes that they never were truly gold in the first place because gold would never rust.
