Kiss - Odyssey Lyrics

From a far off galaxy, I hear you calling me
we are on an odyssey
Through the realms of time and space
In that enchanted place
You and I come face to face

Once upon not yet, long ago someday
Countless times we've met, met along the way

Through the luminescent night
On beams of neon light
You and I in wing-ged flight
As we cross the starry sea, powered by what we see
Now and then, the victory

[Chorus]

There's a child in a sundress
Looking at a rainy sky
There's a place in the desert
Where an ocean once danced by
There's a song in the silence
Weaving in and out of time
We are notes in the music
Searching for remembered rhyme

On a mountain high somewhere
Where only heroes dare
Stand the stallion and the mare
We have been and we shall be each other's destiny
One another's odyssey

[Chorus]

We've met along the way....
We've met along the way

Is this because the two Jews in the band knew some movie-making Jews and thought this could be a movie soundtrack but there was no movie to match it with? I just don't know WHY Paul and Gene or CHAIM chose to do this with the Kiss band. Side project, ok, but this? Maybe it has already been told but who can really know?

    T.... ....

You’re not far off. The original idea behind it was for a movie to be made, I’m guessing that any potential investors likely lost interest once hearing this abomination

    T.... ....

@Fresh Prince Of Darkness hmmm was this b4 or after Kiss Meets The Phantom? I watched that in my younger days and was a pretty big kiss fan back then. So I was fooled with all the superstar superhero mystique.

How anyone can hate this album is beyond me I really don't understand it. It's always been one of my favorites. Hell, I used to listen to it for hours while writing... And now that I have a copy of my own of this album I get to do that again and that to me is a little piece of happiness. The music and the story that went along with this album were amazing, people need to stop bashing it. So they tried something different. It came out as epic. <3

    E.... Y....

    True, true.

  57. n.... ....

    This is KISS's best album

    n.... ....

You bet it is. I could not agree more.

    n.... ....

    Nonsense.
Their best album is still Hotter than Hell and Destroyer.
MFTE has some interesting ideas and underrated melodies-riffs, but the whole album is just too madcap and bloated, and dreadful lyrics out of a dungeons&dragons game.

  58. L.... S....

This sounds like it's from David Bowie's Blackstar album

    L.... S....

    Totally does.

    L.... S....

Lol i like your thumb nail avatar pic thing lukas skrypetz

    L.... S....

Just Bowie in general. Mixed with a little ELP or Asia. Really bizarre. I'm glad they made this record tho for some reason. KISS in the Twilight Zone.

    L.... S....

@Stuart Marks why not? artists do not care to repeat themselves over and over. they need to stretch. this applies to artists in all genres. it is what makes them creators. thanks S. peace, tony powers (i wrote Odyssey - and the lyric for The Oath)

  59. X.... G....

I dont know why people hate this album. Personally i consider this as their masterpiece, has much sense for me.

    X.... G....

I probably like this kiss era the best. When Peter left the band, their musicianship improved considerably, and it resulted in some awesome work like this and Unmasked. It´s a shame Paul and Gene dismiss these albums just because they didn´t make as much money.

    X.... G....

fundhund62 - most fans think this album is shit not just Gene and Paul.. Except for the people going for the ironic “everyone has crapped on this so I’m going to go out of my way to put it over” schtick. This song in particular is a joke. I came here after hearing the Pod of Thunder podcast review it, and I had to see for myself if there were people defending this absurdity. And I wasn’t disappointed.

    X.... G....

@Joe FromTomsRiver Yeah, sure. But how do I care what most fans think? I like what I like. Destroyer and Creatures would not even be in my top 10 of kiss albums, and Hotter than Hell not even in my top 15.
So what? Different people, different tastes. Don't you think?

    X.... G....

people seem to want artists to repeat themselves over and over so they can be comfortable in receiving the work. this applies to artists in all genres. artists get bored doing the same thing over and over again...they need to stretch. it is what makes them creators. thanks all. peace, tony powers (i wrote Odyssey - and the lyric for The Oath)

First of all, why are you here anyway just bashing this album?? Go listen to Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift or Nicki Minaj. I'm sure you will prefer them to Kiss. This is a classic masterpiece album of Kiss for smart people not for dummies!!!

A Awesome Kiss Ballad. It is Styx meets Genesis symphonic ballad. It's like "The Best Of Times" meets "The Living Years" sort of song. Thank you, Tony Powers. Music From The Elder is definitively one of Kiss's classic albums for hardcore Kiss fans. They should of released this in the 1972-1974 period, because that was when concept albums were in their prime. Cheers!!!!

  65. P.... S....

This has, by far, been my favorite album that KISS put out. The whole album, if you listen to it, has such a dark overtone to it. I bought this on cassette in 1982 and I wore it out! I was glad when I found it on Itunes and was able to get the remastered version. This is one of those songs that I can close my eyes and let it carry me to another world. Great tune and great album. I was told that it was written as a soundtrack for a movie. Would have like to seen the movie.

    P.... S....

My friend..you are a carbon copy of myself, this was my first album in 88 at the age of 8 and I too played it over and over, i was (still am) infatuated with it. This album takes me to a very special and unique place..just realized youve been there the whole time mate. I salute you!

    P.... S....

thanks Paul...actually, i just wrote it for myself to do and then recorded it. peace, tony

  67. L.... ....

I can see Freddie Mercury singing this, might even improve it.

    L.... ....

I can't, because Freddie is (tragically) dead. But I know what you mean. However it was not a REAL Kiss album. It was a great album musically. I Love It, every track on it. and YES mister Powers, I know you wrote the song and helped along with THE OATH, but so did a lot of other people. That aren't even mentioned in the credits of the album. Why you keep coming up with: "I wrote it"? You are on the credits, It is a great song, but also because Kiss played it, Bob Ezrin produced it, etc, etc.

  68. A.... G....

This album had it's faults but it is an underrated album. Production wise I like the record. The theme was interested. But as a KISS record it's a mess, as a record on it's own not bad. I wonder what The Elder would of sounded like with Ronnie James Dio doing this with his mid-evil theme albums..Hummm?

    A.... G....

that would have been mind blowing. Or imagine if this was played by Queen for example.

  69. S.... S....

  70. k.... ....

I can't believe that Paul hated his vocal on this track so much! It really is fantastic! He did a great job. Kept it true to the original Tony Powers styling. And it worked massively, for my money. Sure, it was a little different to his usual style, but c'mon, to call it bad is just ridiculous!! Paul is entitled to his opinion, just as i am mine, and that is mine. Get over it Paul. Trust me, you did good Mate! I love it... \m/ (:o)

    k.... ....

It's refreshing to hear Paul attempt different styles!

    k.... ....

I am the real Tony Powers. I wrote this for Paul.

  74. t.... ....

it just occurred to me - this tune strikes me as having a Broadway musical meets David Bowie circa Ziggy Stardust-era vibe. And the quiet part has a Peter Gabriel/Genesis -Lamb Lies Down vibe too... It's got nice changes/arrangement.

thanx T. i wrote it (i'm on piano here too) also co -wrote "The Oath" peace, tony powers

  75. G.... F....

    Ace's solo is pure awesomeness

    G.... F....

That's not Ace. Actually, it's Paul on 90% of the album, lead and rhythm guitars.

    G.... F....

pedro arranz It's most likely not Paul either. It doesn't fit his style at the time. They used ghost players on most albums and for sure on the Elder.

    G.... F....

I think its actually Paul's solo

    G.... F....

@karl morgan its Paul. He played most guitar except for Dark Light.

  76. J.... F....

The world will be changed when Paul passes, hopefully that won't be for a very long time bc his voice is priceless and beautiful

  77. B.... Y....

Makes me vomit every time I hear it. Good god Bob Ezrin, what the fuck were you thinking?

    B.... Y....

The Drugs were thinking. So puke along outta here. It's a great album.

    B.... Y....

Stop bashing this album!!! This is a masterpiece album, only dummies don't get it!! And unfortunately I figured a lot of Kiss fans are dummies!!!

  78. M.... ....

  81. r.... l....

I've been a Kiss fan for over 35 years and this record should have been aclaimed for the critic as their best record. This guys took a serious risk in order to give the fans not another simple rock and roll album,an extreme high level album(during the 80'!!!!!!!!) and that's why nobody understood it at all,and I guess a few rock and roll bands make a step like this and I still don't understand why everybody gave his back on it.In my opinion they wanted to show a difference from the previous failure disco albums straight to the top.
This version has nothing to do with the TONY POWERS'original song in terms of quality and perfection in the arregments and the way PAUL SANG.AMAZING.Guys,this is only my opinion.See ya.

    r.... l....

Critics loved it, the fans didn't. Know why? ITS A FUCKING CONCEPT ALBUM. KISS didn't need to record a concept album. Listen to Creatures, THAT'S what they should sound like. If Black Sabbath did this, it would make zero sense. If Aerosmith did this, it would make zero sense. Same with KISS, it made no sense and it didn't sell.

    r.... l....

it is a terrific arrangement. thanx R. tony powers

y' know. As the years went by though, i grew to quite like it. But now? Now, i simply adore it! So epic. So beautiful. It even brings me close to tears, in it's depth and beauty. Just stunning! I was only 16 when i bought it. The idea of orchestras and the like didn't really 'cut it' for me then. I guess i finally grew-up. Ha! Ha! \m/ (:o)

I've been a Kiss fan for over 30 years and I still don't know what to make of this album. It doesn't suck at all. It's probably the strangest album I have ever heard from any rock band and Kiss is the only band that could have recorded an album like this if anyone wanted it. I understand why they did a metal, grunge and disco album but I still don't understand why they did this album. Does anyone know the story behind it?

    L.... d....

+Lorenzo de' Medici From what I understand , it was for a movie that never came out
