Kishi Bashi - Summer Of '42 Lyrics

I've never been to Japan, or a war, but I can't stop sobbing when I hear this album. My pofile picture is just a drawing, I drew in college, during the first gulf war. My dad was in WWII though, so maybe it's a lost love he had, that I'm feeling. IDK. This album is a masterpiece.

Poignant, evocative, ethereal, exquisite song of love

Saw Kishi Bashi last night at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro NC sold out show. He and the band were just incredible. This lush composition is one of my favorites on the new album. His creations and live presence transcend the audience to a new place together. So beautiful - thank you for your art

This song was written for a specific time and place, but must very easily resonate for anyone - in any time - in any place - who loved, lost, but will always remember.

Indeed! Hits straight through to my very core.

To be honest, this is the only song I don't care for on the album. I appreciate the meaning behind it, but it's repetitive, poorly put together, and rather boring. It's a strange release for an otherwise solid album.

pretty much all of kishi bashi’s music is better than most of music today anyway. I would say be grateful for what is so obvious a great song!

This spoke to me immediately. I am a huge music fan, rating American Football, local Natives, The National... among the best this year. Apple Music played Summer of ‘42 as the first song, it whipped me to bag of mush within 10 seconds. Deeply moving. Sweepingly Cinematic with a voice speaking just to you. Buy, download, stream

The song is already absolutely top tier gorgeous, but knowing the context really amps it up even more.

especially for those of us who are descendants of those who were imprisoned during that time. i like to imagine this album could be about some of my aunties and uncles :')

Matisyahu- "One Day" also another great message from reflections on the atrocities of war... a bit Bob Marley-'esk'... kishi bashi is a pioneer with powerful resonance.
