Kinks, The - Wicked Annabella Lyrics
In a dark and misty house
Where no Christian man has been
Wicked Annabella mixes a brew
That no one's ever seen
Too scared to even say hello
She's in perpetual midnight
She shuts out the day
And goes about her sinful ways
I, I've seen her hair, I've seen her face
Look towards mine
I, I've felt her eyes burning my soul
Twisting my mind
Should always go to sleep at night
'Cause Wicked Annabella is up in the sky
Hopin' they will open their eyes
Don't go into woods tonight
'Cause underneath the sticks and stones
Are lots of little demons enslaved by Annabella
Waiting just to carry you home

Kinks, The Wicked Annabella Comments
this song and "Lola" was made on the same day and same youtube channel
People say this song is similar to the rover by Led Zeppelin, I don't really see it, but it's a good song...
The Rover, by Led Zeppelin. Far from being a plagio but obviously Led was inspired by this
Amazing not very well known Kinks song so good in fact I’d totally rob the verse if I was in a GarageBand it sounds awsome.
Oh yeah I did 20 years ago🤦♂️😉

A very good read (an interview w. Dave Davies in 2016): https://theaudiophileman.com/kinks-dave/
they should have run the chorus at 0:56 again after waiting just to carry you home
but i do love this song very much
Yeah this right here!
very much like a syd barrett tune
Sam Gladwish yes but scarier.
The title the sound ..it's proto doom metal
I love Quaifes bass tone on this song! The drumming rules too! very heavy/phsychadelic!
Is this the beginning of goth rock?

Named my daughter 'Victoria' after a Kinks song and now that she's older I should've named her after this one.
Hahaha!
Best band ever
Who is singing here? Is it Ray or Dave? Only connoisseurs, please
Alexandros Liveris Dave
This song is actually pretty terrifying and dreadful, it's filth still echoes through my mind as the sunshine of Monica gradually washes it away.
One of the best.
My favorite Halloween song !
Anyone know how to create that vocal effect,or know the name of it?
singing through a mic in a leslie amp.where the leslie speaker rotates.it was made for keyboards of the day..the moody blues use it on Dear Diary......hope this helps

Relatives have passed her by,
Too scared to even say hello.

@Colin Wilkes pretty sure he was

My name is Annabella. This song scary accurate. Beware ghouls and gals. 👻👻
....they are the small gigants of the english scene....
Led Zeppelin's "The Rover" is somehow similar to this.
Wicked song
Best psycho-beat song ever. Darkest Davies. Quaife´s such a great bass player....his Bach improvisation is superb. The free&precise drumming is also excellent.

such a good song
that bass run between the chorus and the verse is BLOW MY HEAD OFF hottt....
Charlie Jones Pete Fucking QUAIFE
it's a snippet from Bach's "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring"
Uncle Acid cover has more views lol.
Love the guitar and drums!! Can't get enough
There's an aching quality in Dave's voice I just love. All of his songs sound so bittersweet, because of his odd voice.
i'm pretty sure that Ray is singing.
Nope. you are correct. It's Dave.
There´s a little Ray vocal at the end of the song.
Gabriel Dinelli Yes.
And as a kid, I loved the 'Latin' sort of accent Ray adopted on 'All Day and All Of The Night"; their singing was always enjoyable to me, and made me smile. Listening at the time, Dave's (still striking and powerful) guitar work on "You Really Got Me", the aforementioned, "Set Me Free", "Till The End Of The Day" and all their songs of that genre, was as striking in its intensity and emotionality, if not its complexity or virtuousity, to Beck's, Hendrix's, or any of those who came later. It seemed to me that Dave could've done much more, and just did what fit the group's total sound. He packed so much feeling into a little phrase of notes! I just had a visceral like for them. 'I'm On An Island' is another that I love and still play regularly. Moby Grape had that fire in some of their songs too, and the passion, but the Kinks had that slightly 'too loud for the equipment to handle' sound at the time that made the American black blues/r&b guitarists so infectious: Bo Diddley, Otis Rush, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, and Howlin' Wolf just to mention a few, and leaving out some great ones; those were just the first to come to mind. Captain Beefheart, too, of course, was a whimsical songmaster, and still (more now, even!) amazing, too. The original studio version of 'I'm Not Like Everybody Else' was like a personal anthem for me. Dave, Ray, Pete, Mick/Bob were like the Mothers in that (A Well Respected Man, David Watts, etc.) respect, and The Village Green was, to me, just another side of them. Their lyrics, too, grew. I'm sorry to hear of Pete's (an artist, too!) passing, and I wish all of them well.
Every song on this album is good.
top song!
Happy Halloween everybody!
thanks!
Happy Halloween everybody:)! Watch out for Wicked Annabella!!
Love this song anytime, but especially around Halloween.
Similar structure to Big Star's "You Can't Have Me."
Ray said at a concert that he met Alex of Big Star as they ended up being neighbors in New Orleans. Ray appreciated his music and might've jammed- similar kind of song writing, reflective.
Hey, never really thought about that. Good ear. You right. Blur during the freakout ending. Badass evil laugh. I actually hear a bunch of British groups from the 80's being summoned during that part. She's a witch demon thang.
the kinks were a weird little English band but were perfect
