Kinks, The - Out Of The Wardrobe Lyrics
Has anybody here seen a chick called Dick
He looks real burly but he's really hip
He's six feet tall and his arms are all brown and hairy
He married Betty Lou back in '65 when you had to be butch to survive
You see, he's not a common place closet queen
He shouldn't be hidden, he should be seen
'Cos when he puts on that dress he looks like a princess
Well, the day he came out of the wardrobe
Betty Lou got quite a surprise
She didn't know whether she should get angry or not bat an eye
She really couldn't call up her mama
Mama would positively die
Should she go or stay, or should she try to get a trial separation
You see, he's not a faggot as you might suppose
He just feels restricted in conventional clothes
'Cos when he puts on that dress he feels like a princess
He's not a dandy, he's only living out a fantasy
He's not a pansy, he's only being what he wants to be
Now his life is rearranged and he's grateful for the change
He's out of the wardrobe and now he's got no regrets
Betty Lou didn't know what to do at first
But she's learning to cope at last
She got the best of both worlds
And she's really in a state of elation
She says it helped their relationship
She says a change is as good as a rest
And their friends are finally coming 'round to their way of thinking
She wears the trousers and smokes a pipe
And he washes up
She helps him wipe
'Cos when he puts on that dress he looks like a princess
He's out of the wardrobe and he's feeling alright
He's out of the wardrobe and he's feeling satisfied
Now it's farewell to the past
The secret's out at last
He's out of the wardrobe and now he's got no regrets

Excelent song.
Bruce Jenners Anthem. LMAO
Crickets chirping as you crack yerself up. Jenner had a sex change while this song is about...never mind.
Why back in the day I worked at Eatons department Store. Girl I worked with was dj for the only gay bar in town Saturdays were wild. I played this song in an old wardrobe at the front of the mens wear dept where we worked It was great Just add drinks and it was a real party. The fun good old days.
Cannot look at the past (1978) through the lens of the present. Witness "The Imitation Game." If you do you will spend your entire life being offended.
This song tries really hard to be accepting and then completely fails around verse 6, whereupon it becomes so completely offensive that I wasn't sure if I wanted to hear the whole thing. As a transgender person I really don't appreciate the fact that Ray uses the fact that Dick is "not a pansy" to imply that he is somehow bad. Maybe I AM A PANSY. That does not make me bad. I'm very disappointed with this song.
Look no further than "lola" as proof that ray does not disapprove of transgenders that are biological homosexuals.
waaaaaaaa
Aia bby .. don't listen then fucking loser
Wow you're an absolute moron, Ray Davies was trying to say the character is not the stereotypical pansy/tranny image that bigots have and he's just an individual and should be viewed as one with no pre-concieved labels. Literally the message of the song as evidenced by ''He's not a faggot as you might suppose'' and alike.
Seriously your surface-level reading into these lyrics astounds me in it's fucking stupidity.
you are a transgender also a pansy and that’s totally ok. dick is a transgender and not a pansy, that is also totally ok. This song is not about fighting for the rights of all kinds of transgender people,it just says people who want to be themselves and don’t want to be classified
delicate issue tackled here, but in Ray´s style, it´s another glowing tune
@MikeRotch exactly what I gather and why I deem the song so grand.
if u were to take all of the kinks songs in between good and genius u would have more songs than any other band...period....this song would be an example of good... waterloo sunset=genius
I think Misfits was an underrated album.
