Kinks, The - Little Miss Queen Of Darkness Lyrics

Well I met her accidentally,
In a little discotheque.
And she acted oh so friendly
To every fella that she met.
And her hair was hanging down,
Like a bright and silken sheen.
Little Miss Queen of Darkness
Dancing night and day.
Little Miss Queen of Darkness
Dancing, dancing on.

Although she looked so happy,
There was sadness in her eyes.
And her curly false eyelashes
Weren't much of a disguise.
And her bright and golden hair,
Was not all that it might seem.
Little Miss Queen of Darkness
Dances sadly on.
Yes Little Miss Queen of Darkness
Dancing, dancing on.

There was something missing
From her carefree little life,
And she'll never understand you
When you're kissing her good night.
'Cause the only boy she had
Went and coolly stepped aside.
And Little Miss Queen of Darkness
Might as well have died.
Little Miss Queen of Darkness
Dancing, dancing on.

THE KINKS: a history every song

  3. M.... P....

Ray Davies is a absolutely TOP Songwriter and Composer, better than Lennon/Mc Cartney and better than Jagger/Richard. Only Pete Townshend can compare with Ray Davies.

  4. O.... E....

I love Kinks since I heard them about 1965

  5. M.... P....

This beautiful and saddly song is about Ray's sister, who died in a discotheque by a heart failure, the same day in the afternoon, she bought a guitar for Ray. Ray was very happy and deeply sad by the evening.

    B.... ....

    It was also his birthday

    B.... ....

He wrote about her in "See My Friends" a year earlier too

    B.... ....

Where did you get that information please?

  10. M.... G....

Fuck Beatles ..this album kick ass!

  11. T.... ....

My favourite kinks song by far, With celluloid heroes coming up second.

  12. M.... ....

    Wonderful song.

  13. G.... L....

    Stereo??

  14. J.... L....

Real nice drum break in the middle of this little tune came as a surprise. But then, most Kinks songs always have some ingenious thing going on. Acoustic guitars are crisp and driving. The Kinks -- one of the extraordinary bands of the 60's that never compromised their art. Ray Davies....definitely in that Brian Wilson class of brilliance. Absolutely. I would like to see Ray write some tunes and record them with Paul McCartney. Ray Davies would be a far more logical musical co-author with McCartney than Elvis Costello, Michael Jackson or Stevie Wonder were. Ray is at least cut from the same cloth as McCartney, understands that English jargon and wit. What a team that would be since John Lennon isn't available.

    J.... L....

    RAY Y PAUL...Q DISCAZO

    J.... L....

@John LaStrada McCartney/Davies.... WHY HAS THIS NOT HAPPENED YET

    J.... L....

those two in the same room would be like trying to combine two vast universes. and would probably cause a massive multidimensional implosion or other cataclysmic event

    J.... L....

totally agree that Ray was up there with Brian Wilson in a very British way

  15. p.... ....

I'm just taking the time to call you an idiot. Have a nice day.

    p.... ....

    Thank you

  16. E.... I....

This song is so addictive =)

  17. S.... C....

Dude, shut up, it was just a joke.

  18. n.... ....

Because the Kinks developed an effective electronic distribution system, right? Do you complain that a grocery store makes money off produce grown by an independent farmer?

  19. S.... C....

hahahahahahahaha You're such a fucking idiot. Oh my god hahaha. Alot of artist urge you to pirate their music, because the industry, mainly because of itunes, is so greedy and just ruining music. Why should I pay a fucking company to discover art? I will pirate it, and if I enjoy it alot, I may go down to the record store and purchase it. I don't think any artists, unless you're like Axl Rose or someone would have problem with my method or discovering msuic.

  20. S.... C....

I...I have it...hence 'on my comptuer'. fucking idiot.

  21. p.... ....

Maybe you are the owner of a record shop that suffered in sales and went down the tubes or quite possibly you are the son of a record shop owner. The times they are a changing, sphincter boy. Get into the 21st century.

  22. S.... C....

Well, I never said the artist didn't get paid, I said iTunes shouldnt make money off it. I was joking. I was just hating on itunes. Idiot.

  23. S.... C....

Why is that electric guitar on their downing the picking? It's not like that on my computer, and it's sounds terrible.

  24. S.... C....

Because itunes should not gain money off the great creations of others.

  25. d.... ....

So it doesn't represent someone in particular, which were my original doubt. But the figure unique features (crazy hair, white & pink collar) led me to think that it was about someone, cause it's not very representative of an ordinary population. Perhaps it was on porpose to induce joy and character to the figure. But anyway I see you have point.

  26. a.... ....

A man with colourful butterflies emerging from his head, the name of the band & album operating as the "flap" which has opened up to let out the vivid colours. What does that suggest to you? man?

It's not a psychedelic album by any means, but there were a lot of references to drug use in any rock album from this point on (or before), both coded and not so coded.

BTW, many of the books of my early childhood (c.1980) looked like this album cover in typeface and colours.

  27. d.... ....

It's like a 60's meme or something? hahaha

  28. a.... ....

It's not! it's the Zeitgeist! It's so 1966 you will never live to understand this....

  29. K.... M....

Definitely in my top ten favorite Kinks songs :D
