Kinks, The - Killer's Eyes Lyrics

I see so little hope in you,
So much despair,
As I look in your eyes I wonder,
What thoughts linger there.
Life means nothing to you,
At least that's what they say,
But it doesn't mean that you have the right to take life away.

How were we to know what was going on inside your mind.
You never let it show what was going on behind
Those killer's eyes
Killer's eyes

You've seen your picture in the paper.
You're little sister's pinned it on the wall.
She thinks you're in some kind of movie.
Imagine her surprise when she saw you on the news.
Reporters came around and asked for interviews.
So little compassion, so icy cool.
They say you were a poor boy, you know that life can be cruel.
Hate builds up from childhood, your world was a slum
But you haven't got the right to blow it to kingdom come

How could we know what it was like inside a killer's mind
It never really showed, you kept the secret deep inside
Those killer's eyes
Killer's eyes

You say the world is full of bullshit,
So you kill just as you see fit.
They say that you're a fanatic with a mission.
We all go through hell in some kind of way,
Can you tell me what it's like to be there every day?
When you were young you had a vision
Why'd you go and do a thing like that?
And now we see you on the television.
Imagine our surprise when we saw you on the news,
And reporters came around and asked for interviews.

I see so little hope in you,
So much despair,
As I look in your eyes I wonder,
What thoughts linger there.
Life means nothing to you,
At least that's what they say,
But it doesn't mean that you have the right to take life away.

When you were just a child
You'd hide away when other children cried
But how were we to know
These tears that flowed were from a killer's eyes

I see so little hope in you,
So much despair,
As I look in your eyes I wonder,
What thoughts linger there.
Life means nothing to you,
At least that's what they say,
But it doesn't mean that you have the right to take life away.

Those killer's eyes
See the whites of their eyes
Those killer's eyes
See the whites of their eyes

Kinks, The Killer's Eyes Comments
  1. Code Blue

*_Not everything is so Black and White these days..._*
If a crackhead tries to stick you for an eightball I wouldn't really blame you if it came down to you or him, just know that if you take a life outside the realm of self-defence the NAP won't cover you in that regard. Your wife and kids, or the guy's eightball fix for that moment. Choice is clear I can't deny. Just remember that even then, the guy could have cleaned up his act and cured cancer, while the guy who shot the crackhead could have been some sort of known ruthless murderer from the get go. In the end. But in that moment, do you let your sense of morality dictate your actions or your primal survival instinct alone? *I wouldn't judge you either way.*

Every song on this CD rocks. Predictable will be my least favorite due to it being overplayed back in the day. I can't believe they have chosen that one over this one.

This song was inspired by Mehmet Ali Agca, who shot Pope John Paul II four times in an assassination attempt on May 13, 1981. The Kinks were touring in England when it happened, and Ray Davies was inspired to write the song after seeing Agca's picture in the newspaper.

In the story Davies read about Agca, there was a quote from his mother, which gave Ray the idea to take her perspective halfway through the song.

  6. Siri Wahlbom

    Is this about John Lennon?

    Alan Brown

No, it's about Mehmet Ali Ajca, the loser that shot Pope John Paul II. It's sung from the point of view of Ajca's mother. Heavy, now that you know, right? -CLEVELAND ROCKER.

  7. Martin Wellander

GREAT TUNE LONG LIVE THE KINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  11. Matt Yust

So Jesus Jones didn't rip the intro off??

  12. Matthew Stetson

I tend to like Mick Avory's drums but they drag the band down on this album. Thud but not in a good way.

    Brendan Spaulding

Matthew Stetson yeah I feel you on that, it’s the same overly simple, basic beat on every song, and it’s not good.

    David Miller

@Brendan Spaulding All 80s songs have nothing but steady drum beats.

    Brendan Spaulding

@David Miller Sure, but that doesnt mean this drum beat is good. And in most 80s song a drum machine usually fits the vibe of the song, on this album, especially when compared to his other work, Mick sounds stale and bored, its not even good in a white stripes simple but heavy way. If you like it thats fine, I just find it rather annoying.

    Alan Brown

Hard driving beat on "Around The Dial," "Give The People What They Want" "Back To Front." If you can do better why are you commenting on YouTube? -CLEVELAND ROCKER.
