In the CD liner notes Ray Davies say that when he wrote Holiday, he had man with a handkerchief on the head and suspenders in his head. And listening to the way he singhs it, it might be the inspiration for the Mr.Gumby charakter of Monty Pythons Flying Circus.

I always thought it was about someone who was recovering from some kind of breakdown, being sent out to convalesce by the seaside to recover and 'take the air'...

He sang it with a cigar in his mouth

The whole album has to do with some kind of break down. Pulled it off well, very cool unique record

I mean, its clearly tribute to the black-american rhythm and blues style of rambling vocals

Wow, the creativity of these guys never ceases to amaze me. One of the bests to ever do it.

Hilarious musicality to this, not to mention the clever, slobbery words and vocal presentation....

Total creativity. Just awesome, awesome....
