Kinks, The - Animal Lyrics
On reflection, it was not all wine on the wall
It was not all cuts and bruises
Or the pulling out of hair
And the bloodying of nose
And the tearing off of clothes, although
It was really animal, truly animal
There were times when there was absolute compassion in the air
Though it was really animal, truly animal
It could not compare to times we cared
And were in control and less emotional
While the intellect controls the spiritual
The animal respects what's natural
Ying and yang control man's actions
It was really animal, truly animal,
Well there were times when there was absolute compassion in the air
On reflection it was not all crash and bang
Broken bottles and abuse
Sometimes there were sunsets on the sands
Holding onto caring hands
But there were vampire fangs
As the angels sang
It was ying and yang, oh yeah
It was truly natural, though it was really animal
In a sense it fell into a truly natural romance
Oh yeah,
It was really animal, truly animal
There were times when there was absolute compassion in the air
True love, true love, true love is really animal

Kinks, The Animal Comments
I always remember those 70's porn flicks with girls fucking horses when I hear this song.
If I'm not mistaken, there's a pretty famous one called exactly "Animal farm".
Of course the song has nothing to do with it.
Even on the album cover, Ray Davies comes across as an artist. The three other band members look to the photographer wiyh similar degrees of comfortableness. Ray looks down, as if to say, "take the damn picture, and let me out of here."
He is looking at the camera, check out the gatefold for village green, its easier to see.
The Kinks’ best album, hands down
The kinks super under rated. Why don’t they play this on the radio more ?
ThanKs Kinks - YOU'RE STILL WONDERFUL!!!
Los más grandes de largo.
What a beautiful song, why wasn't this a huge hit?
Ray Davies, arguably the best songwriter to ever come out of the UK.
There is no argument coming from me.Walks all over Paul and John.
big hippie vibes
why does this make me cry?
Thank you Ray for this beautiful song.
The chord change, so melancholy, though it's an upbeat song.

"Animal Farm" can be listened to at face value, and more power to anyone who does. We need more songs in praise of cats and dogs and pigs and goats.
But *Preservation* is supposed to be a drama (or rock opera), isn't it? Which would mean that "Animal Farm" is sung by a character on stage. Why is he so nostalgic? What is he trying to escape from? Is he longing for a time that can never return? Is he a good guy in the play? Or what? Country residents know about long hours of manual labour. Rural life can be just as absurd as city life. Maybe "Animal Farm" is a satire about pining for the good old days.
The characters in a narrative have an arc, and may move from naivety to experience to cynicism. And who wins in the end, Flash or Black? Four vinyl records are called *Preservation* and yet we can only speculate about the meaning of "Animal Farm." (And there's even a bonus CD with *Village Green Preservation Society.* ) Which leaves us back where we started, listening to a jaunty, pastoral ditty.
Doug Reibling ...I believe you’re reading too much into what is simply a sweet and joyous howl of freedom. The Preservation “Play” came 5 years later, completely unconnected to V G P S except for borrowing a word; written by a decades-older, cynical and “woke” curmudgeon whose Village Green of his happy childhood had been unceremoniously defiled and shat upon.
First heard this little gem in a skate dvd for some obscure board company from the early 00’s, the glory days
When people ask, who's the best rock band, the beatles or the stones? I always answer

Aladin ripped off the Kinks. Full proof shown here.
what pretty much every human and other animals feel, so think about that the next time you swat a fly or dismiss a Cat
1968 even! I suppose I was only eighteen.
Missed this in the seventies. Heard it today on six music. It is a really great track
This world is big and wild and half insane
Take me where real animals are playing
Just a dirty old shack
Where the hound dogs bark
That we called our home
I want to be back there
Among the cats and dogs
And the pigs and the goats
On Animal Farm
My animal home
On Animal Farm
My animal home
While I lay my head upon my pillow
Little girl, come play beneath my window
Though she's far from home
She is free from harm
And she need not fear
She is by my side
And the sky is wide
So let the sun shine bright
On Animal Farm
My animal home
On Animal Farm
My animal home
Girl, It's a hard, hard world, if it gets you down
Dreams often fade and die in a bad, bad world
I'll take you where real animals are playing
And people are real people not just playing
It's a quiet, quiet life
By a dirty old shack
That we called our home
I want to be back there
Among the cats and dogs
And the pigs and the goats
On Animal Farm
My animal home
On Animal Farm
My animal home
On Animal Farm
Animal Farm
😀😋😋
You are awesome Sarah Franco! thx
It's a grower folks!
Cos Drag 👍
Love this song.
Que tal letra!!!!
gran canción
People can talk about Americans inventing rock music but English people put the soul into it. This couldn't have come from an American.
@Abel Ramirez oh they got soul after the British showed them how its done...I'm American its just the truth.
Funny this is one of the least overtly British songs on this album, an American totally could’ve wrote this song. I wouldn’t say that about a lot of The Kinks music tho.
Doug Reibling what are you smoking up there and can you send me some?
Doug Reibling I was actually considering a drive up this summer , how’d you know!?
Completely timeless. They'll be singing this a century from now.
Stefan Janoski is one of the homies who I dont know personally
just love this track
Favorite song from favorite album
