I’d love to get it out there as it’s an awesome track. I know that not everyone likes Kings of Leon - a lot of people (read critic Stephen Hyden's 2013 GRANTLAND article "Kings of Durr" if you don't believe me) consider them MONSTROUSLY UN-HIP, and unintellectual, and oh Lord knows I can see why - but some silly little part of me will always consider this a rather beautiful song, perhaps the only really BEAUTIFUL song that Kings of Leon''ll ever do. Something about the yearning in the thing - in the instrumentation, in Caleb Followill's voice, in everything about it - gets to me. He sounds like he's singing about somebody he really knew and cared about; the details in the song are interesting and vivid. More to the point, perhaps, unlike a lot of songs by a lot of macho mainstream rock'n'roll bands (other songs by Kings of Leon very much included) "Milk" sounds neither banal nor slick. It isn't just a by-the-numbers lust song (which, in my opinion "Use Somebody" and "Sex on Fire" are, and those are two of Kings of Leons' biggest hits).
I just like this song; even though some days I wish I didn't.
