King Krule - Foreign 2 Lyrics

Well see I never even stretched her faith
This storm would not allow it
As you observe it falls out of place
The time was born around it
I know it calls when you’re bare
Stripped from the mould
Well I stare sometimes and it tears away
With your soul
You may be foreign here, but I was foreign there
By suffering here in sovereign fear
You may be foreign here, but I was foreign there
But suffering here

[Chorus:]
Isolated heritage
This path was never relative
I watch the way you meddle with
Exhibiting my pride

Now watch me burn alive as you’re thoughts deprive
All I know that’s inside
See I was torn by a skunks hand
And now they watch me crawl
See I was born by a young man
And now I’ve lost it all

[Chorus x2]

If you really want to know how it feels to be a foreigner, travel to a country where English isn't the primary language. Also, don't travel with a tour group. No cruise ship, no prepackaged tour group, traveling together on appointed, scheduled buses, with a designated tour guide. Break away from that. Travel alone, or with a very close companion. Walk a lot. Study your maps and brochures. Begin to observe particular street signs and distinctive architecture, for destination points. Memorize the look and outlines of bridges, parks, plazas, department stores, cathedrals or temples. Explore the local markets, cafes and restaurants. Appreciate where you are, and all your eyes have seen. Make sure your stay in this particular city is at least 4 - 5 days, before you move on. By then, you've experienced wonderful art museums, or royal castles, imperial palaces. You've appreciated the planned designs for city parks or zoological parks, that locals use everyday. Enjoy the sensation of discovering new cuisine, new soft drinks or beverages made from regional fruits. Savor local teas or coffees. Listen to the sounds of this place you're in: The different tones of police sirens or fire trucks, the varying music styles played in the bistros and restaurants, the music of street musicians, the chimes of church bells or city clocks, the voices of the people passing you by, as you pass them by. Take notice of different advertising, at bus stops, underground rail stations, on buses and billboards. You are the foreigner; not them. You're in their country. Exercise manners and courtesy, and do it often. If you don't know the words for Thank You, as you purchase pastry from a bakery, or freshly baked bread, or home grown apples and regional cheese from one of so many family operated markets, or you buy a locally knit sweater, or music on CD, say Thank You, regardless, and bow your head respectfully to the shop employees. They will understand your appreciation and humility, immediately. Do these things, and by the time you depart from that city in a foreign land, you won't feel so alone there anymore. Your heritage won't feel so isolated. You're discovering a small piece of the vast world around you.
But: If you travel with a tour group or cruise, all of these experiences will be lost to you. You'll always be guided to specific destinations, allowed to spend a very set duration of time in each place, and then you and all your fellow English speaking tour members, all from the same country, are shuffled back to your waiting bus or cruise ship. You will have missed more than you'll ever know.

For others, they have never felt so alone before being in a place, a country, where they've never been, and perhaps are not altogether welcome.
