King, Carole - It's Going To Take Some Time Lyrics

It's going to take some time this time
To get myself in shape
I really fell out of line this time
I really missed the gate

The birds on the telephone line (next time)
Are cryin' out to me (next time)
And I won't be so blind next time
And I'll find some harmony

But it's going to take some time this time
And I can't make demands
But like the young trees in the wintertime
I'll learn how to bend

After all the tears we've spent
How could we make amends
So it's one more round for experience
And I'm on the road again
And it's going to take some time this time

It's going to take some time this time
No matter what I've planned
And like the young trees in the wintertime
I'll learn how to bend

After all the tears we've spent
How could we make amends
So it's one more round for experience
And I'm on the road again
And it's going to take some time this time

King, Carole It's Going To Take Some Time Comments
  1. M.... ....

I believe Carol King wrote this herself, just a beautiful song.

  2. H.... K....

    a true beauty, thanks

  3. E.... G....

Uma das letras mais belas existe! Muito profundo!

  4. H.... S....

Carole King is magical. Her lyrics are so profound and perfectly matched to her unique voice and the musical arrangement. Just beautiful!

    H.... S....

So true, Harry! Glad that you know Carole's work; she is a magnificent person and one of the best songwriters in history.

  5. I.... S....

I admit I had never heard Carole's version of this until '10, shame on me. The Carpenters' version is the one I always knew. As much as I love (and miss) Karen's voice I have to admit this version of it has a homespun charm that really appeals to this listener's ears.

  6. H.... T....

I always thought this was only the Carpenters song! I am young so I just had no idea :) I am sooo happy I now know that I have Carol King to thank :)

    H.... T....

Carole's original version is so beautiful. Glad you found it, Heather!

    H.... T....

    me too..

  7. J.... B....

Beautiful song that brings back so many memories of my life in the 70s. All the possibilities were still before me. Gosh, I miss those times.

  8. H.... H....

The piano on this is food for the soul.

  9. W.... S....

How is it possible we never see Carole King performing this wonderful song? She sings it with so much soul and life. She gave birth to it and it's like the cold hearted music business separated her from her child.

    W.... S....

@Wesley Scott Love to you too, Wesley! Carole is a great source of music and the kind of personal goodness that our world desperately needs.

    W.... S....

@Holly Herring So true. It's amazing how well her songs have withstood the test of time. It makes a whole new generation scratch their head and ask themselves, "Where did all the really good music go?"-??

    W.... S....

@Wesley Scott Thank God we have Youtube, Wesley!

    W.... S....

@@Holly Herring Agree with you, Holly. Youtube (and Social media in general) brings people together and keeps us informed (both of the past, the present and the future). Hope to stay in touch.

    W.... S....

    @Wesley Scott Peace out, brother.

  10. H.... E....

I rocked hard at the time,' 72, still do, but i always had time to love me some Carole King.had her first 3 albums.this particular album was during a sweet 3 months of my junior year in high school.

  11. D.... A....

A simple beautiful pop song with chorus a couple of hooks and a fade away  I miss the 70s

    D.... A....

Me, too. This song is exquisite. People back then wrote MUSIC.

    D.... A....

I know. It seems like such a simple thing to do yet absolutely nobody today seems to know how to do it. Just write a nice syncopated melody, come up with a couple great hooks, and you have a great record. It seemed so easy to do back then.

  12. A.... S....

    Carole did it.

  13. H.... H....

Subtle brilliance from a magnificent human being.

  14. T.... ....

    sweet music, Love this vibe.

    T.... ....

Beautiful song. Carole King is a wonderful musician and a wonderful human being.

  15. J.... O....

Love both but carpters was better

    J.... O....

Listen to the piano on this one, though.

  16. A.... T....

Carole was the original singer 👩🏼‍🎤 of all time!

  17. J.... K....

Another gem from Carole King !

  18. l.... m....

No one other with her sensibility...

  19. P.... M....

If it weren't for carole . Karen wouldn't have a nice song to copy!

    P.... M....

And if it weren't for Karen people would never know Carol even sang this

    P.... M....

SirWrecksy such a bullshit response,,,King wrote this and it's magical, the FUCKN carpenters copied it.

  20. C.... ....

This beautiful song is only enhanced by Carole`s elegant arrangement!  Perfectly gentle to the sensitive lyrics and music!  Those flutes at the end are exquisite!!!!!   The Carpenters version was all top 40!  This is how the song should be heard!!!!!

    C.... ....

CaroleCarlyJoniLaura I have to thank you for mentioning Carole.😇that's how I feel about her.

    C.... ....

    love her.💝💝💝💝💝!!!!

    C.... ....

The Carpenters' version is way, way better. Even Carole King herself admitted that compared to the Carpenters' version, hers was like recorded at the garage.

    C.... ....

This has more gravitas. Loved the Carpenters' version when I was 12 and hated King then. This has so much subtlety, nuance, and soul.

    C.... ....

bernadette garcia Please stop spreading bullshit.king never said that!

  21. S.... V....

I like CK's original version as much as the Carpenters' beautiful cover.

    S.... V....

@Michel Abalain It's clear Richard borrowed his arrangements from the original. Both are beautiful versions unlike the stark contrasts of Close to You (Carpenters versus Dionne Warwick.)

  22. P.... M....

If it wasn't for Carole this song couldn't of been celebrated by others. Luv carpenters!.

  23. R.... ....

Carole King's voice is like burlap compared to Karen Carpenter's velvet.

    R.... ....

According to that way of thinking, Bob Dylan is burlap music.
I think Carole King is generally considered to be more important and more influential than Carpenters. I don't mean it's better, just C. King's music has higher status and greater specific weight.

    R.... ....

It depends on who you talk to. Karen's voice has influenced thousands of people all over the world, and made people want to sound just like her. The tone quality, control and phasing of her voice has never been quite matched. Richard's arranging style and stacked and layered background vocal arranging also has influenced other arrangers and bands from all over the world as well, so I'd say they both have a lot of influence to musicians from all over. Carole is an amazing songwriter, (more so for other people than herself) and has had hundreds of people cover her music, so in that aspect she is more prolific. But even though The Carpenters had a relatively short career (13 years) cut short by Karen's death, they still have outsold Carole by over 25 million units, so I'd say their music has influence. Carole excelled in songwriting, The Carpenters excelled in recording and having hits.

    R.... ....

fool4singing keep drinking the cool aid.lol. The carpenters usually just copied for the most part.
King is a musical genius and one of the most important songwriters of our time. When you listen to some
Amazing recording artists they point to King as a profound influence not the carpenters.

  24. H.... E....

best time as junior in high school of my life...didn't know it then.I loved this album.

  25. S.... C....

It's her song... anyhow it's done that she allowed is the best. Ain't Residuals great man?!! Ahhh Cha Cha Cha:)

  26. G.... G....

Thankful to carol for crafting this classic but her version is a bit too heavy. Karen's voice suits it best .

  27. F.... M....

Kind song for our souls, flashes back memories and revives the ever youth in me

  28. r.... O....

Wish Carole had done this in concert but dont think she ever has....not fond of Carpenters version though i loved them.

    r.... O....

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_Going_to_Take_Some_Time

King is quoted as saying[citation needed] that the duo's lush, string-laden cover, including a flute solo, made her own more sparse version sound "like a demo". Someone should dig up that quote.

    r.... O....

@Bradley Slavik That's true-I have read that quotation, but love the more solemn sound here. Karen sounds as if she is have a wonderful day singing the song with the jazzy flute and faster tempo.

    r.... O....

To be clear this "quotation" shows up in Wikipedia with no source.
Frankly, I find it hard to believe. king did not have the habit to comment especially
On comparisons of her work. I get how people love the carpenters but Richard
Found this and it sounds like he borrowed from kings arrangement and added
To it. That was not the way King would record.

  29. T.... N....

Great, it's an echo from my youth

  30. f.... ....

Great song that The Carpenters took to the next level.  Even Carol told them that their version made her's sound like a demo.

    f.... ....

Carlos Arturo Sousa Garrido Lecca yep! this can only mean one thing... I'm universally wrong! I guess I'll just go fist myself :D

    f.... ....

Totally agree with your point. Love that almost all.of this is just Carole on keyboards and her husband on bass.

    f.... ....

No comment on the proposed physical activity.

    f.... ....

Larval Angel but I like Carole King's version too. I like so much...but Karen's voice is another level. Simply is PERFECT.

    f.... ....

Can anyone show or direct me to the reference that King said the carpenters did a better version?
I have followed king all my life, every album, interview, etc. I've never heard or read that, I have heard she loves all
The different interpretations of her songs, but never heard this about the carpenters.ty.
