Killing Joke - The Hum Lyrics

Slowly, slowly all fall down
A blindfold dance and a 1,2,3
No mistake where they always emphasize security
Draw the curtains, shut the door, the heater's on
I couldn't ask for more
I pull the sheets right overhead
Snuggle, snuggle safe in bed

Take the weight right off my shoulder
Misery claims much too late
Bow the head or grip the sabre
Vermichten regenerate
Bright eyed young inherit all
Treading down upon the fallen
They was drawn towards the Hum
Plenty more where they come from.

Slowly, slowly all fall down
A blindfold dance and a 1,2,3
Swarm upset the gentle lamb
A hive don't hold no humble bee!
Slowly, slowly, out it came,
Tendencies that weren't the same
And they were drawn towards the Hum
Plenty more where We come from.

  4. F.... L....

We all hope England UK will create some day again the base of a culture to be so creative in music and sound

  5. T.... T....

    still ... to now, relevant!

  6. M.... S....

  7. C.... 6....

70 million on this island I live on. Population of the world doubled since the start of the Seventies. War is the necessity. Failing that Mother Earth will surely protect herself and inflict a virus on mankind, the voracious breeder / destroyer of this planet.

  12. H.... P....

    And it`s Studio Debut on Firedances...erm...Birds of a feather...SORRY!

  13. H.... P....

Revelations and Geordie...Well this was`nt the Debut of the ES 295. As someone pointed out..."he recorded the whole Album with the SG Junior..." sounds OK...it does sound like an SG...(Tho no Guitar in Geordies hands sounds like any particular Guitar anyway.)
But Hum and the whole Album stands out for sure..as all of the first three did and still do. But for real: The Es 295 made it´s Debut on HA!
And it`s Studio Debut on Firedances...you can hear the difference! and it took him a few years to get totaly control on the beast and make it sound like it sounds today! I know what I am talking about! Bougt me one of the Re-Issues from the Gibson Custom Shop in 2013...it f...takes a while...but the result is shear amazing!

  14. C.... H....

Nirvana ripped off killing joke massively...in the only they could.. but!!!...having said that...if it wasn't for KJ. Nirvana might not of existed!!!!

  15. D.... E....

I always liked the lurking synth. Absolutely amazing song !

    D.... E....

It's from another dimension. Arguably the darkest band to slither out of England's wasteland.

    D.... E....

@ComeTheDawn 64 Together with Godflesh. Adore them both

  16. S.... V....

Geordies Guitar sound is so unique. One of the best and underrated Players not only in the Punk/Underground Music. Phenomenal!

  17. M.... M....

A bit reminiscent of Siouxsie's Join Hands album with John McKay on guitar.

  38. A.... B....

    killer rhythm

  39. C.... W....

Seeing Empire Song performed on live TV around '82 awakened me to the Joke. So much so that I bought this album and haven't looked back since! Songs like the Hum have just resonated with me!

  42. R.... S....

This type of sound is not post punk ,or any other kind of punk, metal , rock and roll, country or any other name , it's KILLING JOKE , I would have to name it something like , " SOLAR PSYCO " because the music ,lyrics , songs are tripped out , dark, deep meaning beyond reality of this world

  43. P.... B....

Every Word You Speak Emanates Into The Infinite and Expanding Universe. The Eternal Vibration of Life and Consciousness. Studying Quantum Consciousness Currently and Nikola Tesla who Invented AC Current.

  44. P.... B....

  45. c.... ....

    Gran Tema..

  46. R.... D....

Genius. I am an eclectic music man, appreciating everything from The Carpenters to TalkTalk, but no band makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up up like Killing Joke. If I had to take one band with me into hell, they would be the one.

    R.... D....

Yes KJ can rock any nation to its core.

    R.... D....

if thats the case, you and killing joke dont fit.......looser

    R.... D....

The word is loser......illiterate buffoon. Go play on the live rail.

    R.... D....

@Roger Durrant Many musicians are floored by how tight Killing Joke are. In studio , usually recorded in 1 take. Mixing is where they had fun.

  47. M.... J....

These guys were revolutionary. NO ONE else sounds like them. KJ is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands with each subsequent listen.

  48. M.... ....

    Fucking Like It

  49. L.... T....

all this trying to categorize this great music. It's simple .... this is KILLING JOKE.

    A.... F....

    +Antonio Fdez. !!!!!!!!!!!!

  56. r.... v....

The songs are great. But a terrible Conny Plank production. This remix is better, but still sounds weird.

    r.... v....

"terrible Conny Plank production" is an oxymoron.

  57. R.... P....

Very nice. Similar to some later Band Of Susans tracks instrumentally.... With some Wire influence possibly?

  58. S.... ....

check out : Be Quiet And Drive (Deftones) : same riff

    S.... ....

    +Stolearm and Dagger by Slowdive

    S.... ....

It's not the same riff by any means, Deftones just used a very similar albeit more modern sounding tone for the intros to "be quiet and drive" as well as "lotion". I'm surprised someone else caught this as well

    S.... ....

    Prong - Prove You Wrong

    S.... ....

    Be quiet siouxies monitor

  59. C.... ....

The perfect soundtrack to the 2015 UK General Election.

  61. t.... ....

ne serait - ce pas ce son ,dont a cause, certaines personnes se seraient suicidées,ou encore sessons entendu dans l hemispheres nord de la terre ?ou un probleme d audition ?

  62. J.... C....

In actual fact, Revelations was where Geordie started with the ES295...you can hear the characteristic hollow sound throughout.  It helps being venerable...I caught the tour for the album in '82, and stood right in front of Geordie...guess what, he played nothing but the Gold 295 all evening.  They opened with "The Hum", and it sounded just like the record.  I don't remember Geordie looking down at his guitar all night.  Geordie still had the Burman amps at that time.  Incredible live sound.  Yeah, Les Paul w P90s for the first album, and the SG w P90s for the second.  P90s in the 295 too...kind of a pattern, eh?  :)

    J.... C....

+John Carroll Respect mate you know your shit!

    J.... C....

He recorded the whole " Revelations " album with the Gibson SG Jr ( that's what he told me, and I don't think he was kidding me...) ...

    J.... C....

It's also the album where he began de-tuning his guitar.

    J.... C....

True ! Half a tone lower on Revelations, then one tone lower -than standard- since Fire Dances with the ES295...

  63. c.... m....

thanks for post havnt heard this for many a year

  64. T.... H....

seeing them in melbourne in 4 weeks can't wait

  65. A.... ....

  66. J.... ....

  67. R.... F....

Helmet was def inspired by Killing Joke

    R.... F....

    and Prong

    R.... F....

    Godflesh

  68. c.... ....

What's interesting, according to Wikipedia (so take with a large grain of salt), is Cobain supposedly had reservations about releasing the song due to the riff's similarity to the "Eighties" but the label went ahead and released it anyway. At that point any excusable coincidence becomes problematic - at the very least KJ should have been asked and been given a share of the royalties...and I guess the Damned as well.

  69. R.... B....

If I hear one more description of kj known being punk or post punk I think I will puke. U cannot pigeon hole this band they are killing joke. End of.

  70. M.... M....

Wow, just these two? they have allways hade a dark core. I cant think of a songle "happy" song that isnt full of sarcasm. could you or anyone name a song KJ has done that is happy?

  71. M.... M....

Yeah, Jaz dropped the charge when, well when Kobain dropped. oh, the evil wit of us older dudes....Geordie, in my eyes, is awesome but simple.
    X

  72. p.... ....

two people were not drawn towards the hum.

  73. d.... ....

    You sound like Jaz.

  74. p.... ....

You kiddin', boy? Please check the dates before writing such bs.

  75. S.... ....

They got really dark and ghostly on this album and Fire Dances, probably explains why they are their best albums.

  76. C.... R....

No, you hear echoes of Joke in Nirvana songs.

  77. p.... g....

Crack weed And viagra?? that would blow anyones brains, plus you could fuck yourself stupid too :) ( no malice intedid)

  78. w.... ....

    I feel it invading my solar-plexus ...

  80. p.... g....

Geordie says that "The best buzz EVER is going on stage and hearing the crowd go berserk on the 1st few chords!! Better than any drug"

  81. T.... C....

Very nightmarish atmosphere. Swans were definitely heavily influenced by this.

  82. j.... ....

pure, raw post-punk like you've never heard before. bravo

  83. J.... W....

    @Eric22 noted. my bad

  84. J.... W....

@henkpaardevet its a gibson es 295 in actual fact, connected to a BIIG amp

  85. R.... B....
