Killing Joke - Nervous System Lyrics
Everybody's looking for a life
Looking for a wife, no escape
Beat the other man, get your money, get your car
It's a bit of a joke
You see the face, you see the instinct
Start picking it up
Everybody's looking for a life to be described, no chance
Nervous system, I don't like it
I'm getting out of this system
You better do what they say
Better live life the way of an average man
Be yourself, get your car
Gonna get me all the portion you consigned
For your perfect man
We know how you do it, how you do it
Mind psychology
Nervous system, I don't like it
I'm getting out of this system
Every year I go on holiday
Every day I do the routine
9 till 5, 9 till 5, live around the clock
'Cause they tell me
9 till 5, 9 till 5, live around the clock
'Cause they tell ya
Everybody's looking for a life
Looking for a wife, no escape
Beat the other man, get your money, get your car
It's a bit of a joke
You're walking down the streets
You see the face, you see the instinct
Start picking it up
Everybody's looking for a life to be described, no chance
Nervous system, I don't like it
I'm getting out of this system

Killing Joke Nervous System Comments
I'm just a bit pissed that they didn't play this in the Joker movie. Or another one from KJ's catalogue.
I like how this 1979 song sounds like 1982.
Sheer bloody brilliance, love The Joke and always will.
If you told me 5 minutes ago killing joke had a reggae phase, I would have called you a liar
One of my favs from legends K.J.still putting out great music to this day..!!!!
Can't get over how good this still sounds today - and even more poignant now. Thanks mate.
Reggae Joke
Early dub reggae phase.. But I luv everything by them.
Even back then they had that rebellious spirit. The newer stuff is more of an industrial assault on the ears. All good.
Honestly thought they sang 'number system' then 'normal system' first hearing this. Great bass, tho.
I remember having a tape(yes a tape)of k.j. with loads of dub of madness and dogs barking, must have been very early 81/82..
that bass just amazing!
GENIUS....never dates....totally delivers.
Post punk..... The Frist punks arte fartey people with no back bone 3 years anarchy and chous that came after fighting rasistes cunts fucking up skins .. supporting ban the bomb ... this, together with the first album - post punk classics. well captured the darkness of the late cold war period. but this EP was funky too. pretty unique
Red Beat - KJ the Original Malicious Damage Posse.
Stay Cool Man - Love is the Law.
I want to plug RED BEAT "Change and Phoenix" iTunes - http://dredzilla.com/store/red_beat___change__phoenix/

Post Punk Reggae.
🙌🙌
Still have the original EP.
Actually saw them in the late 80's. Forgot how awesome they are.
Still got this 12" single, no record player so listening here..Are You Recieving next, Saw Killing Joke a lot of times back in 79, 80, was a big fan back then..And that first album, often on my C.D player. Nervous Sytem, ever more relevant with all that "Nudge Policy" stuff. I'm out of the system, have been since the late '70's, thanks to bands like Killing Joke and all the punk stuff for focusing the mind onto the fact that "theres something wrong here, i'm off mate".
Vinyl/Record Players are cheap. It's the needle's that are bloody expensive.
The Killing Joke comic is named after the band. Alan Moore and Brian Bolland are fans. The face of the Joker is based on Coleman.
Had me going for a minute though. :)
Princeofcups Poc The Joker was based on the old disturbing black and white film, The Man who Laughs. That said, Jaz Coleman is the closest embodiment of the Joker
been a fan of killing joke since i fist heard them on early john peel session on a radio when i was working nights for sotheby's. i thought who the fuck is this band making this uncomfortable sit up and think music. got back to my home town and my mate had bought their fist album . listened to that and was sold on them. saw them first at the lyceum london. the feeling was awesome at the gig. it was like attending some huge ritual.the live gig was just captivating geordie's guitar just filled the venue with this beautiful discord and the drums altered my heartbeat to beat in unison with the music.never heard or seen anything like it, jaz coleman is an amazing frontman.killing jokes music is just so thought provoking they really do have something to say as a band, lyrically they hit the nail hard on the head about the current state of the world and the human condition. they are indeed modern day prophets,. saw them just 2 weeks ago at the roundhouse in camden they have been going 40 years now and i still don't tire of them. hope they still keep producing music because there is nothing quite like it out there. deeply profound band with solid spiritual foundations , genius.
@Kronos my account got hacked jaz lives in a society
The Joker from Batman was based on a old black and white film, The Man Who Laughs
First recorded KJ EP from 1979, I believe.

You'd better learn what they say better live life away like an average man ????? country can't do what you want that's funny
You have it backwards. This song if from '79. Back when Batman was punching rubber sharks.
JC & Coke
wonder if the bands name is based on the the killing joke graphic novel about the joker. lol guess not cuz dates aren't exactly right just coincidence..
lol good comment, fucking sounds like japan, the cunts on crack
Pmsl :))
sort your ears out eh
is he really?
thats jimmy savile,... on the cover,..
jaz was covering for him lol
pleasantly surprised by this, ive been collecting some old KJ singles, didnt expect this one to sound at all like it does but its fantastic
how ironic...an advert before this song. sad
An absolute disgrace that you have to listen to a minute of corporate bollocks to get here now.
This totally sounds like Japan around about 1978.
i feel a lot of roots reggae and dub on this EP
epic music !
you either love or hate killing joke, but if they are one thing, its GENUINE. pure raw emotion, unabashed and daring, to me they epitomize punk rock.
You know it's true! :P
When I heard this for the first time in Doornroosje, Nijmegen, I ran towards the dj, and asked him who made this music. Killing Joke at their best, in my opinion. So is there first 10" ! As good now...as it was then.
Kickass Song!
