Killing Joke - Democracy Lyrics
You have a choice, we are your voice
Red, blue or yellow.
We will ridicule the green
Another five lane motorway
(You'll never even get a referendum anyway)
Et in Arcadia, Arcadia ego
Backhanders and salamanders
A powerhouse that is morally Mechula
I'm sorry democracy is changing
I'm not a slogan or a badge
Or a cross in the ballot box
Neither values or objectives
You do not represent my deepest thoughts and wishes
Stereotyping and media projection
Industrial psychologists
Plan a campaign that is financed by big business
I'm sorry democracy is changing
You have a choice, we are your voice
Red, blue or yellow.
We will ridicule the green
Another five lane motorway
(You'll never even get a referendum anyway)

Killing Joke Democracy Comments
It sucks Spotify doesn't play this album!
I have this album on CD (first release) and even with expensive headphones it is such complex sound that it almost requires remastering. After listening many times you can appreciate whats in there. Definitely not for first time KJ listeners.
Kiss My Intellect Goodbye !
If I didn't hear this music I'd do some bad shit. This lowers my stress levels. Thank you, KJ!
Proto-Industrial-Death-Metal
Savage freedom sounds cool.
Words to live by, brother :)
Never understood why the band disowns this album? I think it's awesome n probably my favorite album of there's!
Man, haven’t heard this one in a long time. It’s great. Always loved the drum fill that brings in Savage Freedom.
Visceral. Honest. Angry. Calm.
Fucking Brilliant. Onward lads, onwards.
Can you dudes tell me what genre this may be?
İndustrial punk metal ?
The genre of unique.
Shoegaze post-punk psychedelic industrial metal rock 😛
I think Killing Joke should be a genre
post punk
Офигенный альбом
Geordie giving us some acoustic guitar. Great album. Killing Joke has so many brilliant styles it's hard to pin them down. Great album mate.
This is salvation to me. Beauty.
First time listening to this album. Enjoying it. Aeon stand out track so far. Amazing song
One of the best albums of killing joke. İts so hard to find this one on vinyl. 😩
On par with their 1990, Dirt Extremities and Various Repressed Emotions album.
@Kronos my account got hacked Agreed but not as good as Revelations.
Top record
Lanterns of hope best track
Great album. Very underrated. Encompasses all that The Joke is.
There are no jobs for life... this savage freedoom I LOVVVVVVE!
fuck yeah man
nice picture
Great album...great BAND...to play while playing 4X games like Civ. 😈 Makes the title track take on a whole 'nother meaning.
1000% agreed with listening to KG with 4x games. I'm about to spark a bowl and conquer Solaris.
4:51 reminds me a bit of Cement - Living Sound Delay
The one album by KJ I’m finding impenetrable to get into, not sure why...
Dick B. Danglin It took me a few listens. In many ways, I’ve found it to be one of there best.
This album is so full of Machines of Loving Grace vibes, particularly, Prozac People.
Not as big on the "shouty screamy" period compared to the 80s but I realise this was the grunge era so I spose they had to go with the trend, a few good songs on this album.
I'm not into "screamy" vocals, either, but THIS is not screamy so much as rough, ragged, and...well, I feel it. I wish I'd known them sooner than I do.
It's all about content with these boys. Lyrics are everything.
This is the period of the band that I really like. I wasn't into the early poppy/new wave (or whatever they were) stuff, but this era caught my attention. They are so diverse that they appeal to fans of multiple genres. I've loved everything from Pandemonium onward. Still going strong in 2019.
Shit hot album this. So glad I got it on CD.
samantha lewin get it on vinyl and see them on stage.jaz and geordie are beavis and butthead and youth and paul are referees between them. So glad they made the decision to be reborn in 2002 with 2003’s resurrection.
Michael Lara Get it on vinyl so that it will sound.. worse? Vinyl is great to look at but it really limits the sound. Collecting originals I understand, but since the 90s selling vinyl is just to scam hipsters, who try hard to convince themselves they can hear improvements that practically dont exist. If you really want to go analogye everybody should be listening to magnetic tape for high quality.
Far too elaborate to be labeled punk.....
I can see a lot of what nirvana was listening too back in the day
Have a listen to Life goes on, from The Damned's Strawberries album. Does that opening riff sound familiar?!
Wow, interesting
Dave Grohl from The Foo Fighters, is believed to say he's a fan and also highly admires the drummer.
https://youtu.be/axGza9EmF9M
KJ's Eighties riff-->Nirvana's Come As You Are riff. They settled out of court I believe and of course Grohl played drums on the 2000's self-titled KJ album. KJ just one of THE BEST bands ever. I dare anyone new to them to listen to their LATEST album and play through all of them in reverse order, then maybe back through. Other than one or two in the 80's, ALL great FULL ALBUMS. I swear they're better NOW than ever. What band does that? An inspiration for any human.
Democracy is changing. Yes, EU dose not believe in it.
Neither do I! It ain't gonna happen mate.
@MisAnnThorpe what's that then?
@Flea bitten What's what, then?!
@MisAnnThorpe you don't believe in democracy or you don't believe in the EU?
@Flea bitten I don't believe that democracy exists in the modern world - if it ever has at all - and I certainly don't believe in the EU.... or Brexit for that matter.
"Absent Friends" is majestic and the best thing on this album by a mile. No coincidence that it's about the only track here still occasionally played live.
Not even close! Pilgrimage, Prozac nation and Savage freedom blow Absent friends away. Artists are often not the best judges of their own work.
@MisAnnThorpe no. But they are all good
Geordie doesn't like the production on this album, so prob can't be arsed playing some of these gems live!
Absent Friends and Aeon are my favorite songs on this album.
Such a superb album that catches KJ at their visceral best!!
The most fabulous group of punk rock :))
killing joke is not a punk rock band
@Johnny Zeisner one of post-punk precursors
I agree with commenter RedCloud Sophie that Killing Joke is a punk rock band. Compared to Killing Joke, other "punk rock" bands such as The Dead Boys, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, Gang of Four, the Ramones, Public Image Ltd., and the Clash, are calliope-music/merry-go-round music bands.
I think it can't be considered as a punk band."Post Punk" and "industrial metal" suit better.
It even some times sound like "Stoner metal"...
"Beautiful Dead" reminds me a lot Mastodon... Before Mastodon even exist !
@John Nemesis "I think it can't be considered as a punk band."Post Punk" and "industrial metal" suit better." :D:D:D
.......sorry dude, but easily the dumbest comment on this thread...... they are not a punk band, but in the same breath you have no problem calling them "Post-PUNK" :D:D:D:D where do you think "Post-Punk" derived from :D:D it is a sub-genre of Punk Rock..... so generally calling them a punk band is quite OK, trust me
