Khan, Chaka - And The Melody Still Lingers On (Night In Tunisia) Lyrics
A long time ago in the 40's
Dizzy and Bird gave us this song
They called it "A Night In Tunisia"
And the melody still lingers on
Blew the squares right off the stage
Few could play along
But the melody still lingers on
Max and Miles to name just two
Together they grew
The music was young and strong
And the melody still lingers on
They paved the way for generations
No one could stop the winds of change
Without them where'd we be?
The Duke and the Prez were there before
The past you can't ignore
The torch is lit, we'll keep the flame
And the melody remains the same
In the 40's
A night in tunisia
In the 40's
A night in tunisia
In the 40's
A night in tunisia
In the 40's
A night in tunisia

This poor album. I would play this song over and over again when it came out and thankfully my parents bought it. Absolute perfection.
This inttire arrangement is completely off the chain!!! 😎
É simplesmente inacreditável o que essa mulher é capaz de fazer com a sua voz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing
Truly blessed that as a 14 year old Aussie girl I had an older brother who was a magnificent drummer with consummate taste in music and musicians. He insisted that I not destroy his eardrums with pop and instead he opened the door to a world of musical gods and asked me to listen. Chaka Khan, Herbie Hancock, Al Jarreau, Weather Report, Average White Band, Roberta Flack, The Manhattan Transfer, Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Luther Vandross, Little Feat, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, Nina Simone and on and on. So blown away.
AM LOST IN THIS-CLASS ! Talented peeps.....
PURE MAGIC. STILL HAVE THE QALBUM AND SINGLE FROM THE 1970'S 1980'S THIS TRACK REMINDS ME OF MY MUM WHO PASSED AWAY AND MY SISTER PAT. PIP MUM LOVE YOU ALWAYS XXXX
I can't help but feel sssooo sorry for these poor saps ( kids!! ) that ... " Know Nothing " about the music of the 40's ....! They don't " Research Our Musical Heritage "!!! For back then...,we " Dressed Better " , " Spoke Better ( english!! Not this " Ghetto Vernacular " that makes us sound so .... " Unintelligent " which is why I don't follow others!!! ) . Anyway, ssooo glad to have found this ...!!! Being a drummer myself , I've loved this version since I first heard it!!! So,So Glad I was born a 50's child ... For that'a where most of the greatest music was ever created!!! As for this ... hip-hop slop, just keep it out of My Lane, and I shall stay in Mine.

this is one of the most undiscovered songs by Chaka and Herbie Hancock for Dizzy, you go Girl love you always.....
Scott Dorsey I concur!! 😌🙌
2:54 to 3:02!!!
I thought it was Stevie on keyboards!!
That solo at 1:41 is all I need for the day...
Steve Ferrone on That Drum Kit with them Funky Breaks !!!
haha, Yoh! I love me some Steve Ferrone, but I played on that track! Casey Scheuerell, just sayin' .... smiles.
yok mu Türk? 🇹🇷
This is my favorite Chaka vocal 'orgasm', especially between 3:30 and 3:40! What was that?!! It's as if her voice launched and soared toward Pluto, then went into afterburner mode mid-stream. Awesome vocal! Awesome arrangement!!!...Chaka has rare moments like this that keep you drawn in. You just never know when they will occur!
Cant say it any better than you did. Afterburner? Hell yessssss. Slayed all female sangers.
Beyonce Rihanna GaGa Nikki manaj. this is a real Singer Chaka Khan
I 1000 percent agree and I'm glad someone else out there knows it too!
Chaka got this Off, she showed how versatile an Artist she Still is. Smooth-Stuff, Still.
Steve Blake...yes it does!!! Fabulous!!
Damn, herbie
brings back damn good memories
It's Khan, not Kahn.
Oh Yeah ! this cut was played on KSOL in the YEA AREA IN THE 80S,ONE OF THE SISTAS WITH A VOCAL RANGE THAT MANY FEMALE ARTIST STILL CANT COMPARE,GO AHEAD CHAKA WITH YOUR FINE ASS AND THAT BANGING BODY BACK IN THE DAY! WONDER WHAT IT WOULD OF TO SEE HER TWERK IN HER PRIME WHOOOOEEEEE YYYEEEESSSS!!!!!
I have been looking for this song!!! OMG...Finally found it. I adore this woman's voice. She should have been a Jazz singer!!!!
Said it before...will say it again: one of the all-time favorite vocalists; my personal favorite singer.
This is what brought me from funk to jazz 👉👍
paul gilbert brought me here
@***** because in one of his lessons he talked about the whole tone scale she sang and the chords that progressed as she sang it. He practiced for 3 months to learn this sing.
@Sh3lz123 LOL me 2
Chaka Kahn ft.Dizzy & Herbie Hancock ~ And the Melody Still Lingers On (Night in Tunisia)
#rhythmandblues #jazz #chakakhan
What key is this song in??
@VintageChic bydesign D-Minor.
この曲、めちゃくちゃ好きやわ
MY GUESS. the drummer is either Steve Ferrone (ex of AWB) or John Robinson, formerly with Rufus and Michael Jackson (studio work).
Casey Scheuerell is on drums.
This is the reason Y the Beyoncé's of this world will B long 4gotten when they retire. They will never B able 2 produce a piece of work like this.
B B B B B
AGREE I DANCED TO THIS IN THE NIGHT CLUBS DURING THE 1970S AND 1980'S
were gonna look back at Chaka khan like woah
Nah. There is a reason why Janet Jackson's music and legacy have longevity. Beyonce is an all-around performer/entertainer and is easily one of the best all-around entertainers (combo of vocals AND stage presence) alive. She'll be remembered as one of the best all-around entertainers of our time. Chaka is one of the GOATS and one of the greatest vocalists of all time but like most of my favorite vocalist, she isn't putting on a show like Janet or Beyonce. She is a part of the S4 community. The "Sing in one Spot, Sweat, and SANG) types.lol My favorite type of singers but I respect Beyonce.
Who on this planet can match Chaka Kahn's vocal prowess. Bring it on... This is absolutely one of the great vocal feats ever. Bring back jazz to the forefront and paying tribute to all the greats before her.
Incredible synth solo from Herbi...not from this planet...
That's why I came here... to revisit Herbie's awesomeness on that solo... one of my favorite parts of this entire album, and that's saying a lot!
that intro....that tension at 2:07... absolutely brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrilliant
Herbie is playing over a Charlie Parker’s solo note for note!
Who's the drummer...o0?
Casey Scheuerell is the drummer on this track.
My all time Chaka fave!!!
putting Bird's outstanding solo in was genius.
Oh my god those keys are brilliant
Chaka Kahn and Herbie Hancock are two of my favorite performers. They are a great match. I love this song as well. Happy to see them back. Thank for bringing these two great perfomers.
I love this song:) Thank you for posting!
