Kevin Morby - Baltimore (Sky At Night) Lyrics

Here comes Gene with the crane and his boots that jingle
He smiles wide and throws his eyes spinning lies that tangle
Have you ever been outside of Baltimore county line?
Could you tell me about the sky at night, untouched by downtown's lights?

And every time you hear a thunder
Boy, you just pray for rain
Knowin' one day, the sky is gonna clap
That heaven's gonna have your name

Sing me a song of California
Take me dancing, pretty mama
You know I said, have to warn ya
This place is haunted, now do you wanna?

Here comes Saul, walking tall, with his popular gaze
He wonders how then takes his bow, an outside midnight way
Have you ever been outside headed either north or south?
Could you tell me about the other side of where the mouth lets out?

And every time you feel the earth shake
Oh you just do the same
Knowin' one day, the ground will open up
That devil's gonna have your name

Put me on a train to New York
And take me out to see the water
And all I ever wanted was to die with pride
A soul full of hate, grace, and sorrow
Oh, oh oh oh oh
And if it's my time, so be it
You know I'm a soldier, Adriana
Oh

Have you ever been outside of Baltimore county line?
Could you tell me about the sky at night, untouched by downtown's lights?
And every time you hear a thunder
Boy, you just pray for rain
Knowin' one day, the sky is gonna

  1. C.... C....

This guy is like the perfect in between of the Lou Reed or Bob Dylan extreme. The Goldie Lou Dylan zone you might say.

I lived right out side of B-more for most of my life. Almost fifty years. Spent more than twenty years on those streets chasing heroin, and enjoyed every minute of it. I miss all those friends of mine I used to run with. Hope their all happy, whatever they are doing. God bless the people of Baltimore. Be strong. Be happy. You are loving, kind, and pure. So many memories. Copping LSD up at the tower back in the early seventies. Seeing the Grateful Dead and Jethro Tull at the Baltimore Civic Center. And many other concerts. First time a guy pulled a knife on me was there, in Baltimore. But it's not nearly as bad as you might think. There is a lot of love there. Black and white people. Junkies and straight people. Home for all of us. Thanks Kevin. And you for posting!
    Peace.
