Kershaw, Nik - Walkabout Lyrics

There are walls to keep the stranger out
And doors that open wide
Over here, over here
Open spaces for a silent shout
A place for you to hide
Over here

Over here that feeling that fills my head
And smiles as as I take my time to bed
And

I hear someone calling me
Oh no
This certain space is not your place to go
And
I see someone standing there
Go away
Gone walkabout, not coming out today

Nothing ever seems to matter
And yet, nothing means so much
Over here, over here
No magic box or slight of hand
No mockery of touch
Over here

Over here I go but not to sleep
I hope there's something I can keep

[Chorus]

I think we all appreciate the groove and the tasteful work of J Porcaro but listen again to Nik's fabulous melodies for verse and chorus. He's up there with Macca and Bacharach IMO. Nik's the complete package: interesting melodies, lyrics, arrangements, in fact, the works.

Nick deny's me of perfection but he is so close

This album needs a deluxe edition to be done! Like with Human racing and The riddle!

    D.... N....

I can't see it happening, they probably did it with Human Racing and The Riddle because they had so many well-known songs on them. Though I won't be sad if deluxe editions of Radio Musicola and The Works never appear, as they'll no doubt ruin the sound like they did with the first two.

iv always liked niks songs I bought this album in the early 90s, im not a lovesick teenager from the 80s his songs have always resonated with me especially now im getting older its taken me till im 50 to get some intelligence and understand what his songs meant , how clever was he to get it at such  a young age,

  12. J.... M....

Isnt Porcaro only on "Lady on the Phone" ? I thought its Vinnie Colaiuta in all others including this one.

    J.... M....

+João Mauricio Jeff is only on this track, the rest is Vinnie.

    J.... M....

Yeah Porcaro uses the same groove here as he used on Toto's "These Chains"

  13. P.... M....

Nik Kershaw's  music STILL gives me serious chills every time I listen to it. Which is often. ♡ ♫

  14. g.... c....

Typical porcaro shuffle groove...one I'v tried to master for over 25 years...
    "Still F--king trying!

    Peace!

    g.... c....

you and me and millions of others!

  15. B.... C....

    "Sublime"?

  16. B.... B....

    Completed! It's so completed..

  17. J.... M....

This gives me goosebumps! Love it :o)

  18. M.... ....

jeff porcaro from toto is the drummer on this track his slow shuffle is recognisable to discerning listeners! vinnie coliauta is the main drummer on the album he is also a contemporary of porcaro, and a mate of his .peter wolf produced the album who done albums for heart, starship and kenny loggins! i need to buy this album again me thinks!!

  19. 4.... ....

Is there a word or words to express just how ????? Nik's music is?

  20. C.... P....

@snorhyveln oh yeah. i have plans. i have a few friends that have studios in their house and work with them and i have the freedom to play like me. i never had a producer talk to me the way that dude did. record producers are supposed to make you feel good about yourself to help get the tracks done. that dude didn't. i never dealt with a producer like that before. a friend of mine from los angeles said that session musicians are making a comeback which is great.

  21. B.... B....

    @drumfoomaster
    sorry to hear that!
I´m glad though that musichians build their own studios for a respectable amount of money, and create their music dispite market trend! The knowhow is spreading slowly to becoming pro-standard in sound and downmixes. So bring it out an Myspace and other sites!

  22. 4.... ....

There wouldn'd be a song of his i don't like. So So gifted.

  23. C.... P....

@kirk7524875248 i know what you mean. i was invited to play drums on an album and the producer told me that there is no dynamics in music anymore and to think like a drum machine. long story short, i got fired from that session. so much for creativity in music. not in this day in age.

  24. a.... w....

@7spqr7 on most yes but jeff did this track.

  25. r.... ....

i've been looking for this song for some 20 years; thank you thank you thank you!!!!

  26. a.... w....

oh so you mean he was replaying it, showing you what he had done in 89?? i get that now. when i said he was great but not that great i meant he couldnt have played it in the early 90s for it to have been on a 1989 recording, no matter how good he was on the drums he cant go back in time. thanks for the insult, appreciated. i missunderstood you, you misunderstood me. i wont insult you for your lack of understanding i shall be a man and just just say have a nice life.

  27. a.... w....

on the 1989 released album 'the works' he did it in the early 90s? Jeff was great, but not that great.

  28. a.... w....

Richard Marx loved Jeff. aswell as all 7 of niks studio albums i have all 9 of richards, two geniuses.

  29. B.... B....

This sound/downmix was revolutionary in music industry at that time - 80:ies!
I would say still is! Far away better than the sound of todays produced music!

    B.... B....

It sure sounds good, but why is it so revolutionary? I recall that Ahha had a similar soundscape in late 84 and 85.
