Kershaw, Nik - Dancing Girls Lyrics
Cold and lonely, tired and bored
Just like the day before
Missing out on life's reward
Of that you can be sure
Take off the cold night and the sad day
Bring on the dancing girls
Take off the twilight and the skies so grey
And they dance for him inside his head
Soul destroyed by life's demands
With nothing to believe
Our hero sits with head in hands
And heart upon his sleeve
So bring on the dancing girls
Take off the cold night and the sad day
Bring on the dancing girls
Bring on the girls to dance his blues away
And they danced for him inside his head
Dancing girls
Take off the cold night and the sad day
Bring on the dancing girls
Bring on the girls to dance his blues away

Kershaw, Nik Dancing Girls Comments
Bring on the Dancing Girrls!
his worst song by miles,,very poor
Such. A. Good. Song reminds me. Of a simpler time as. A. Child @megan Spence
I didn’t know who he was until “Wouldn’t it be good.”
my favorite nik track. heard it the first time last sunday at the panoramabar at the berghain in berlin. can't stop listening to it! <3
WOW, clips of 80s are SOMETHING !!!!
Probably the best Hair ever :-) Gosh I love this song
Had this song stuck in my head!!
Finally nice to hear it again... this album Is still amazing!
Idk what half these songs are about but I love them
A true gem of a tune from the'80's! 👏👏👏👏
Masterpiece of the HIGHEST order.
Outstanding songwriter and producer, come back and do loads more please.
EXZELLENT!!!
80s songs have to be the best
He was just amazing at Powderham Castle 2019
Far ahead of his time!! Who still listens in 2019! Love it.
I remembered this song and gave it a listen again. Great stuff! And the video is nice too.
Very much of his time.
Who else loves his music?
I was 10 when his first hit was in the U.K. charts in early '84.Still think his music
was great then and still do now! I think he was criminally under-rated too.
AWESOME NIK
No one is gonna mention the dude in the suit jamming around 43 seconds in...cmon man
I seen that right away
Dude's got moves!
Brilliant songwriter and polyinstrumentalist. That barnet though!
So pioneering with regard to new wave synth pop. Paved the way for techno.
The video is obviously innocent, but is this song actually about strippers? Or do I just have a dirty mind?
I was born in the early 80's and this was one of my very favorite childhood songs.
happy birthday nik
Very underrated artist from the 80s
He is a brilliant song writer and a genuinely nice bloke
this song is actually very sad
Love the intro, epic. Most people however don't realise just what an underated guitarist Nik really is either on acoustic or electric.
Back when you need shirt tie and shoes to get into a club
EpicEighteeees. 👍
Welcome to the Electrofunk era... this is such a cool track... still have it on vinyl..
He was so beautiful omg
Cool tune even though I was about two years old when it was released
Great song nik was so underrated
No he wasn’t. He was a huge star at the time, loads of hits, awards, magazine covers and money.
Good tune
wow we had big hair those days. lol
Very 80s with dinner ladies. His best tune.
Correction Human Racing also good. On a par.
Love this. It's rarely played on the radio. Quirky and very catchy.
this song is some great electro. too bad, but understandably, that it had to be a bit popped down. also, great melody as usual from nik!
Tune.... loved it when it came out but it just came up in an awesome techno mix and just WOW!!
I HATE these old BITCHY ladies.
8 people have hearing deficiencies!
Niks pop music always had a sophisticated edge to it. You felt like there was intelligence behind it. A real artist who had a concept to his videos. But he never forgot how important the catchy HOOK is to pop music. Not many artists get the balance right and some of the smarter ones disappear up their own asses. Get too self indulgent.
Takes me back to happier times. Always loved your music Nik.
Yeah, but ironically the lyrics are quite dark in a way.
When music was music ...
Love u Nik!
0:55 , He looks so tiny :3
MCGirlzXP because he actually is he is about 160 cm high lol
He was lol.
Still one of my faves. Plus Save the Whales.
30 years just melted away in a flat second, so delighted i rediscovered this little gem!
Esses toques são ótimos! Contagiantes!
Back in the days when you could actually like an entire album.
Dire Leon I totally agree that you did that in the 80s!
It's on my LP-shelf since the '80s. When I hear quality I buy it.
i was 7 or 8. good old 80ies.
Awesome track by Nik. I especially love the dance moves by the tall older guy in black suit in the beginning. What rythm he's got and what moves. But this track is timeless.
another amazing video from the amazing Nik Kershaw
FINE COMMENT
Hi Newt
Absolutely love this track! :D
I like this elettro-sound classic from 80.
a great tune with great lyrics from the 80s
I wore the vinyl out playing this so much 30+ years ago. I just loved it!
I do like Nik Kershaw... he has a great, unique sort of voice and I also like the fact that, at his best, his songs seem to be interesting psychological commentaries that are heavily disguised as superficially commercial synth pop...although the disguise soon breaks down when you actually listen to them! Very similar to Pet shop boys in this regard and...although he's a bit more up front with it...the spirit of early Gary Numan is also strong with him!
fuckin spot on
Nik is a true electronic composer. Electronic Zappa. I liked Thomas Dolby also very much in the days back then.
Despite being a longtime fan, I've never seen this particular video before (maybe this didn't make it to Australia at the time?). Love it!
Fantastic video, fantastic song. A true classic!
Awesome song! I love Nik's lyrics. Always interesting.
Hi Nik, I hope youll read this comment.
In Israel , we love your music very much , and this song, in particular.
You can see here people dancing , depite all the darkness that surrounds us.
Your'e always welcome to Israel, and you can feel free to refer to politics, also.
We are open to speak politics with everyone.
I loved "Wouldn't It Be Good" in the eighties. I don't know how these other songs escaped me, but I heard this and The Riddle fairly recently. Must download now. Brilliant!
Umm where are you from???
This great video and Nik is really cool and absolutely Genius musician and composer!
Nik's most original and interesting composition IMO. It's very quirky and slightly odd (in the best possible way) which is probably why it's no so well-known. Lots of 80s sound effects on this.
April 28, 1984, the laughter show. The female dancers are on POINT
yes, indeed. I think it is showing that electronic and techno was about to come.
Andy JS
Not so well known is that a joke, It was a hit + very big hit single in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Holland + Denmark,-And then came off the hit album: Human Racing which was a really big hit album in: Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, + the UK
I also heard it on radio last week on Absolute Radio
So what on earth are you on about ???????
@mikey p I only new "woudn't it be good" and "the riddle" from him
Seems like a good song to breakdance to.
Yep, Should have been in breakdance 2, Turbo & Ozone smashing it, while Special K being the "dancing girl" lol.
Catchy and cool
I loved the uniform of Traffic Wardens in those days.
their looked very sexy mateiiraan Viljoen
The satirical theatrics priceless in Nik's music videos. This one - specifically about 'true' human nature - hidden beneath the reserved formalities of modern day self-composure - regardless of age and profession. The old woman dancing on the table: tempting fate by luring unsuspecting spectators to flashes of her inherent desire to dance, despite the restrictions of her stuffy dress sense - she wants male approval, as do all women, even the most liberated ones.
Male approval? Not necessarily. Anybody's approval? Not Necessarily! Just doing their thing!
I don't really get to know what the song means. Is he crazy n the only thing he sees is dancing girls, some such thing???
@Eryr Tywyllaf My feeling is "Dancing Girls" represents drugs. So the song might be about a guy using drugs to get through the pressures of life. When he sings "bring on the dancing girls", there are some dark sounding synth chords... so maybe dancing girls is not something necessarily good.
@otakurocklee probably right XD
bring on the dancing girls is a metaphor a catch all solution to the worlds ennui
+otakurocklee Quite correct. Nik has stated in the past that "dancing girls" are drugs.
All of his videos are so strange and fantastic.... I love the riddle and don quixote. Nik's the best!!!!
Love your work Nik. How does it feel watching this clip now? I couldn't get your music out of my head back in the 80's, it was like an addiction!
Kershaw wrote some of the best tunes in the 80s. Truly brilliant.
Had to give this it's 100th like. Great track from Nik. Memories of being 15 years old :)
Same here! Those were the days... <3
Always great hair:)
Not now.............kojak eat your heart out.
Please don't exaggerate letone rip. It's nearly not as bad! <3
nik songs are amazing and so catchy
Nice bay window
Definitely your best song, Mr Kershaw. An 80s classic!
The first time I heard this, I borrowed the Album from school.. I was 17 and a 90s kid. I could NOT stop listening to this song!! probably heard it a trillion times. I completely fell in love with Nick and his music :)
All that paranoia proved to be prescient.
Longtime fan nik- i was just a young boy when you popped off but my dad was def into you and it carried on thru me!
wow ... Mr. Kershaw ...
Haven't heard this song in YEARS! Wow, I really miss Nik Kershaw. Human Racing was one of my all time faves. I had a cassette but I played it so much it was destroyed. I was never able to find an album like I did The Riddle. I had such a crush on him. Sigh....I hate getting old.......
I love this song. haven't thought of it in years... Then today someone at work said "bring on the dancing girls " lol
I bought the single 1984 and still have it. I loved this song and still do. Thanks, this song and others helped me through hard child times.
Probably my fave track off Human Racing but there's some stiff competition. :) Thank you, Mr Kershaw.
I remember this on a K-Tel compliation I had called Hungry For Hits. Growing up in the 80's was something bloody special. I'm know nothing about NK.s music but this brings back so many good memories. Happy days indeed!!
where did that time go to, was I asleep, lol I enjoyed it, and can feel the same as I did back then, when I was listending to this as a teenager, love sick lol
Brilliant songwriting and unique sound! Still remember listening to this album with the girl I should have married!!
Like all your song Nik.(Dude)
love this track nik
I may only be a kid- but I love 80s' music, and this is one of my faves, Nik Kershaw is awesomd
an 80's classic and an all-time favourite of mine - fantastic synth sounds!
