Kenny Rogers - Two Little Boys Lyrics

Two little boys had two little toys
Each had a wooden horse
Gaily they played each summer's day
Warriors both of course
One little chap then had a mishap
Broke off his horse's head
Wept for his toy then cried with joy
As his young playmate said:

"Did you think I would leave you crying
When there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Jack and don't be crying
I can go just as fast with two
When we grow up we'll both be soldiers
And our horses will not be toys
And I wonder if we'll remember
When we were two little boys"

Long years had passed, war came so fast
One wore the blue, the other gray
Cannon roared loud, and in the mad crowd
Wounded and dying lay
Up goes a shout, a horse dashes out
Out from the ranks so blue
Gallops away to where Joe lay
Then came a voice he knew:

"Did you think I would leave you dying
When there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Joe, we'll soon be flying
I can go just as fast with two
Did you say Joe I'm all a-tremble
Perhaps it's the battle's noise
But I think it's that I remember
When we were two little boys

Correction : rolf Harris had sod all to do with composing this great song and it's not an Aussie war song either. It is a song just about all war, no nationality is ever mentioned in the lyric. Also it was already an old song before the beaded Australian Rolf Harris covered the song in the late 60s.

I disagree, it was written about the American Civil war I refer to the line "long years passed, war came so fast, one fought the Blue, the other Gray. " Not sure what other war would have the belligerents identified Blue and Gray, it was written in English further limiting the possibilities as we can assume a war with an English speaking narrative would involve at least one English speaking country if it was the US it would point to the US Civil war If Britain and then one of the Belligerents would be identified as Red or Khaki (tan)

Thank you for posting - have been looking for this song for a long time. It was one of my mom's favorite Kenny Rogers songs after my brother died, then shortly after that my dad passed. She said it reminded her of how close they were..........
