Kenny Rogers - Sweet Music Man Lyrics
I wouldn't listen and I couldn't see
And all I have left now are words you said to me,
Sing your song sweet music man,
'cos I won't be there to hold your hand like I used to,
I'm thro' with you.
You're a hell of a singer and a powerful man
But you surround yourself
With people who demand so little of you.
You touched my soul with your beautiful song,
You even had me singing along right with you,
You said I need.
Then you changed the words and added harmony
And you sang the song you had written for me
But nobody sings a love song quite like you do
And nobody else could make me sing along
And nobody else could make me feel
That things are right when I know they're wrong
(that things are right when you're wrong with the song)
Nobody sings a love song quite like you.
Sing your song sweet music man
You travel the world with a six piece band
That does for you what you ask 'em to.
And you try to stay young
But the songs you've sung to so many people
They've all begun to come back on you.
So sing your song sweet music man,
You're making your living doing one night stands,
That prove to you they don't need you.
You're still a hell of a singer but a broken man,
But you're keep on looking for one last fan
To sing 'em to.
But nobody sings...
So sing your song sweet music man
I believe in you.

Growing up in the 80s I thought this guy sucked , but as I got older I began to get it , and now that I am old I really got it.
Did y’all know this song is about Waylon Jennings? Kenny Rogers sat next to Jessi colter on a plane and this is their conversation turned into a song.
It seemed to me to be about someone who sold out to commercialism. Why Waylon? The songs have begun to comeback on you? I don't think Waylon ever lost it. Not meaning to argue with you, Travis, but I always wondered who this was about.
Peter Simcox Well Kenny Rogers said this song was about a conversation him and Jessie had about Waylon. Many say that Kenny just said that to make a whole bunch of money, idk it could be. Waylon covered this song on his 1980 Music Man album and his version is way better.
Travis Owens you’re correct sir. This song was written about Waylon. Nobody sang more love songs than Waylon. Also go look up videos of Remembering Waylon where Hank Williams Jr Talks about he even had songs written about him.
@Peter Simcox Jessie Coulter requested Kenny Rogers to write a song to so she could get through to Waylon.
Yes I did. I read where JESSIE asked Kenny if he would write a song that she could dedicate to Waylon.
This was on my first Kenny Rogers album my mom got me when daytime friends was released as a single , I was 9 years old became an instant fan , got to meet Kenny in 2012 saw him perform twice since then
Молодость! 1981 год, Ташкент госпиталь.
A beautiful song and a wonderful voice.Thank you Kenny for lifting up my soul.
I suspect Rogers was going for a Gary Wright sound and feel here, as "Dream Weaver" was a big hit the previous year.
some people are sooooo smart...they think !
No way! This was his sound from when he was with The First Edition. Listen to his older stuff.
Amazing song, inspirational! Hell of a singer!
We are missing these kind of classic tunes... nowadays...
He lost a million dollar woman and made $10 mil on the song about it. Only Kenny.
Ooops oops oops. This is about Waylon's girl, not Kenny's. Go Kenny go. Great music.
My fav Kenny song .
I used to listen to this too in 1977 when I was driving trucks.
Right before I got married.
Got divorced 1year later.
Mike SaLvadore I've never responded to a post but yours made me giggle.
....Sweet memories .... and this song have something special....if you know what i mean.
Kenny sang this song one night on Johnny Carson's show with just a guitar under a pinspot light in the guest seat and just killed it. The best version of this song I've ever heard.
