Kenny Rogers - Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town Lyrics
You've painted up your lips and rolled and curled your tinted hair
Ruby, are you contemplating going out somewhere?
The shadow on the wall tells me the sun is going down
Oh, Ruby,
It wasn't me that started that old crazy Asian war
But I was proud to go and do my patriotic chore
And yes, it's true that I'm not the man I used to be
Oh, Ruby,
I still need some company
It's hard to love a man whose legs are bent and paralyzed
And the wants and the needs of a woman your age, Ruby, I realize
Oh, Ruby,
Don't take your love to town
She's leaving now 'cause I just heard the slamming of the door
The way I know I've heard it slam one hundred times before
And if I could move I'd get my gun and put her in the ground
Oh, Ruby,
Don't take your love to town
Oh, Ruby,
for God's sakes turn around

Kenny Rogers Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town Comments
Never seen Kenny with a guitar other than maybe this video.😅
I believe Mel Tillis wrote this song as a bluegrass country song, not a pop/folk song.😅
Ah, when jump suits were hip and not some pimp costume.😅
What a great song my dad told me that army makes real man that why I join and Ive become who I am today
🎶Ruby is still painting up her lips rolling and curling her tinted hair in December 2019😉And how sexy is Kenny Roger's look, voice, and that one pierced ear?...Mmmmmm😘🎶

What a great song this was by them, loved this song from the first time I heard it and still do to this day. This song will never get old ( PERFECT)
He looks high af. Such great lyrics... I dunno if people realize how tragic they are.
love the way he is trying to see thru his bifocals
He's blinding himself so he won't keep looking at that HOT girl...I think....
I love this song. My grandmother's name is Lucille and her sisters name is Ruby. I always sang those two songs and laughed.
Damn good ole song. As a kid I listened to this!!! Very nostalgic!!!!
My mama loves this song. She thanks Kinney is steel hot
I had no idea that Kenny Rogers ever had a hair color other than gray
GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Omg he was so hot!
Ufff... Esta canción es eterna. Excelente. 🎸🎶🏆👍🎧
De mis favoritas, ademas Lucille y Lady. the best song¡¡¡
I love love love this song ❤️
♥️♥️♥️
You’ve painted up your tit$ and combed and curled your pubic hair.
His persona seems so different than what he became later in his career. Great song!
It wasn't me who started LINDSEY'S ENDLESS WARS. (Senator Graham Lindsey's 1000 year war)
What a beautiful song with so much soul and heart...yup, I know what pain is all about, been there....I have two beautiful babies waiting for me in heaven I never got to see....
God that man had a great beard 🧔🏻
Wow! Almost didn't recognize him. Great voice!
Im going to buck the trend here and go with the Mel version. No drums or tambourines or 4 part harmonies. Just a man and his guitar singing the lonely blues. Mel nailed it.
He high as a kite !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rock on - turn volume up max and go like hell down the road. Was his sand in at Barona Casino with Estelle Getty (Shell Game) Don Knotts (fold em or hold em) - Frank Gorshin. Fun time talking with him and his new bride for a week - best regard Kenny - continued
success!
I love this song, it's a timeless classic.
Rudy and the Gov fiasco brought me here. Thanks you-Tube for the memories
Did Kenny have kids?
reminds me of kurt russell.
Oh tambourine player wow wow wow
Ruby was a whore
My nanny’s name was Ruby & my Papa use to sing this to her.. would make her so mad! 😂
those of you who gave this song a thumbs down,.....y'all need to take the fuckin needle outta your arm, ...cause this was a great song.
Easy on the tambourine
Brilliantly written song - simple but profound.
Strange, but I scene that in a different perspective.
Never knew he played bass
I saw Kenny Rogers and the First Edition in Aviemore Scotland around 1969 I think they were wearing the same outfits, little did we know back then what a huge star he would become, they were a really great live band.
Very brilliant song it is warts off all type of song
Before he went "Bigtime", Kenny was a bit of a hippy. I love it! Great version of Ruby too.
Bad lip sync.
Who else gets goosebumps when they watch this video?
My first name is Ruby and it's crazy to think when I was little people sang that song at me. Like, I was 8 years old, I did not need people singing about a woman stepping out on her paraplegic husband.
Those shades...omgosh..😹
Excelente interpretação deste grande cantor, arranjo espetacular e me faz lembrar minha juventude em Santo André SP.Grande abraço Kenny.Jason Ferreira da Cunha Neto Goiânia GO. Central [email protected]
LOVED this song as a little girl - love it now - even then I knew what this song
meant. Wife stepping out on a husband.

Something's burning, baby ... and I think it love
Doesn’t get any better than this timeless masterpiece
Mel Tillis wrote this song in the 1950’s. He based the song on a couple who lived near his family in Florida. In real life, the man was wounded in Germany in World War II and sent to recuperate in England. There he married a nurse who took care of him at the hospital. The two of them moved to Florida shortly afterward, but he had periodic return trips to the hospital as problems with his wounds kept flaring up. His wife saw another man as the veteran lay in the hospital.
Tillis changed the war in the song to the Korean War (“that crazy Asian war”), and left out the real life ending: the man killed her in a murder-suicide. In the song, the man says he would kill her if he could move to get his gun.
Given the times in which the song was released (1969) by Kenny Rogers, everyone naturally assumed it was about the Vietnam conflict. An understandable conclusion, but a wrong one. The larger message was about love and betrayal and helplessness. Sad.
Happy Birthday Kenny!
What ever happened to music and entertainment like this???
What a tune!!!!!

Kinda favors Travis Tritt with glasses
Man, that intro... by the time he smiles and sings "hair" the panties are already on the floor.
How many of us Viet Nam Vet's are still married

Great VOICE
My mom played few songs this one and Led Zeppelin just kidding, Cash Walk the Line I was in 2 Zeppelin and Rush Talking Heads Foghat James Brown Susan schapansky and the rest
The best!
I remember this great song 👌🙌👏 as I was 10yrs old, along with his others...
before i could see this video, i had to watch an ad where "coke zero" is poured into perfectly good bourbon (i won't mention the ubiquitous and overpriced "bourbon's" label, plus I'm a Beam man). Ruined the God dang vidya!
When Kenny Rogers was high AF.
I think I’ve cried every time I’ve ever heard this song.
bam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That bass player has a serious mullet.
That's what I like about our president he fought three Wars until his heel started hurting he going to make America not only great again but fantastic and wonderful and terrific he has the best words
he certainly has. except for the 3 wars, of course. and you know, it's 2019 and that's all that counts. TRUMP 2020!
Can we get a reunion?
How many pills was he popping back in those days??
Kenny has always been good looking until that awful plastic surgeon got to his face
2019? Anyone
This song is difficult.
The real consequences of war.
M
And this song charted multiple times. I have a tough time remembering the last time something so adult and real managed that.
@Will Mistretta It is hard for People to come to terms with the Realities of War and with the Real Costs to Individuals. We are, each of us, Flesh and Blood Humans.
Thank You for Your thoughtful comment.
This is the studio recording put to the live visual. Ck out the actual live playing and see Kenny's cool bass playing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1e9p6J89rQ
One of those songs that you turn the radio up in the car and sing at the top of your voice...
He was a hotty back in the day!
Wasn't he born with white hair ? LMAO
This is the Kenny I saw in concert many years ago! Loved him and still do!
Kenny looks extremely relaxed while performing this song. That little momentary grin makes me think Kenny is feeling as good as this song sounds.
I had 7 toes and 6 fingers blown off from a microwave burrito incident at 7-11, .............this song got me through
I remember listening to this in 1971 right after Vietnam in Briggs Memorial Hospital. I had just survived a double break improvised explosive device but was a double amputee as a result. It was a hard time for me but kenny got me through it. I'll never forget his music during that difficult time.
I am so glad music helped you! Lost my husband 3 years ago! Music has helped me so much! God be with you!
Thank you for serving. At 63, some of us are still grateful & patriotic.
@Bonzo T Alonzo From one Viet Nam Vet to another "WELCOME HOME
gentlemen & ladies
Kenny Rogers was not a bad looking guy back in the day he actually was quite attractive and this music video I guess this be a live show but technically it's amazing video but he did he look pretty good
Allways I liked this song.
I was in the 92nd Field hospital recuperating from my wounds when I first heard this song. God, it brings back so many memories and emotions hearing it again. God bless America, all the Veterans and Kenny!
Now i know he is bassist...
We named our new puppy Ruby after this song
his song told a story.

It's hard to love a man whose legs are bent and paralysed. If you hear this on the car radio; turn up the volume and singalong
Kenny was so handsome, until that surgery! Wow, love Kenny! Always will!
