Kenny Loggins - Nightwatch Lyrics

In the night, when a mist of sleep surrounds me
You come to me and hold me tight, winding your body all around me
And everywhere you touch I feel, that my love for you is much too real
Oh, it's the same damn thing, wanting you in my dreams
It's the same damn thing, wanting you in my dreams

Sleepwalkin' - I know every move you make, and every word I say
Keep it comin', comin' - comin' on stronger, this time I'm going all the way
Is this moment just a fantasy, or a vision of what will be
Oh, it's the same damn thing, wanting you in my dreams
Every night the same thing, wanting you in my dreams
(Dreams fade away)

I better find you in my days, or I'm losin' you to the nights
It's the same thing - every night
It's the same thing - oh, you're so right
It's the same thing - wanting you

[Instrumental break]

And tonight, evening's shadows are sure to find me
On my nightwatch, waiting for the warmth of you beside me
And every second that you're here I feel, this dream is real
And it's the same damn thing, it's the same thing
It's the same damn thing, wanting you in my dreams, dreams

Great song! I used to play this song quite often years ago when I was a disc jockey for a campus station in Arkansas. Everyone loved it and quite a few called and asked me about it.

Very few guys can make that transition from country folk to R&B jazz rock like Kenny did. Maybe Jim Croce would have but we will never know. Jewel tried and Emily Sailers from Indigo Girls did but only for an album. I think what Kenny had was a connection of who, what, and sorts?

    D.... M....

Naw, he was pop, pop pop pop. Jim Messina gave him all the other touches.

    D.... M....

What the? He was folk rock with Messina, then soft rock as a solo artist, and when that well ran dry, resorted to children's music. "This Is It" doesn't make Kenny R&B and saxophone didn't make him Jazz.

If you folks like this, which is consider one of Kenny Finest Albums produced, than you will like Jimmy's "Oasis" One of Messina's finest.

Agreed this was Loggins finest album. I caught him live with Fleetwood Mac in Dallas on the Nightwatch tour. I had not heard any of this album at that point and it was quite a good performance. I bought the album two days later and played it often. One of the first cd's I purchased. I found Mike Hamilton on the web and have chatted with him about the leadwork that is awesome, especially on Nightwatch. Never fails to entertain. Imboden was terrific. Hell of an ensemble of talent. Loggins wife took half his money and a lot of his energy.

Ck out Jimmy's "Oasis" Album, You wll dig also.

Hello DUKE SHELTON - I have some questions for you . . . When you went to that Kenny Loggins concert on the "Nightwatch" tour, what time did he take the stage? What was the complete musical lineup for that night and who opened for who? I ask these questions because I seem to have a rather clear memory - (though only a "glimpse" of a memory, at that) - of me reading in a magazine or in a newspaper article somewhere a few decades ago that Kenny's shows on that tour began at 11:30 at night BECAUSE it was the "Nightwatch" tour . . . There is a puzzle at work here that I am trying to solve and if you'll indulge me, I will explain . . . I am wondering: Based upon what you wrote and what I think I read so long ago, was Kenny Loggins the opening act to Fleetwood Mac? Now, to be sure about this, please know that I am not doubting your story because you were there and therefore surely you would know. But if Kenny took the stage at 11:30 PM, as the article I read had indicated, then how could he possibly have been the opening act to Fleetwood Mac? I know you're not saying that, OK? I am not challenging anything that you wrote, you see; but I am really curious about this because it seems to me that Fleetwood Mac simply would not be taking the stage as the Headline Act on a Standard National Tour at 1 or 1:30 in the morning. right? . . .That just doesn't seem to make any good business sense, right? Working ticket buyers can't afford to stay up that late if they have to go to work the next day . . . So there is this imbalance going on in this puzzle that I am confused about. Can you help me to understand this? Believe me, I have been wondering about this for a long time - HA! Here's another question: If Kenny played before Fleetwood Mac that night, would you happen to know if he might have done other shows on the "Nightwatch" tour wherein he was the Headliner and thus took the stage at 11:30 - AND - Could THAT be what the article that I read so long was referring to? I am sorry for all the questions, but you are the very first and ONLY person in all these long and many years that I've ever known of who was actually there to witness the "Nightwatch" tour. This has been bugging me for a long, long time and I am really curious . . . I have been wanting to know the truth about this supposed "11:30 PM Nightwatch Tour" question for a very long time - Did I read that right back then so long ago or have I been wrong all along? Information on the internet about this tour is very limited. Any light you could shed upon the matter would be greatly appreciated - and Thank You - It must have been a wonderful show!

Best cut on Oasis, "Seeing You (for the First Time)"!

I have always loved this song:) for anyone in here I have a dream...if anyone cares to decipher it for me I would be very happy:)
I walk into this lobby...the object of my affections is standing behind some counter talking to several women. He looks my way and reads my every thoughts. I want so much for him to come over and talk to me but he continues to talk to the others looking at me with an unbroken stare. I look away in anguish to collect myself and choke back a tear. When I look back he is gone. I wake up feeling so alone. This song on my mind. We have been through alot together...unrequited. Yet there are feelings on both sides. Why would I dream this?

  13. a.... j....

una buenaza cancion de Kenny estupenda..!!

  14. D.... S....

    Tremenda cancion de Kenny!

  15. S.... O....

He went from this to the creepy (Heartlight), the laughable (Danger Zone), and last gasp at $$$ (Return to Pooh Corner). Hard to believe...

    S.... O....

    Obviously not a true fan.

    S.... O....

I was a fan of his earlier stuff from Loggins and Messina up to High Adventure. That's when he basically well all-in on going pop. I don't want to know what a true fan of Loggins is like.

    S.... O....

lol...and I don't want to know what an "early" fan is like.

  16. J.... F....

Considering that Kenny Loggins was often associated with songs about Winnie the Pooh, this song is an absolute revelation of what he could do with a song about longing, desparation and a scary intensity. Even the instrumental break with its shreiking crescendo is amazing in its feeling.

  17. D.... J....

This came out before private dancer. It is a mans feelings that is quite up there when it comes to feeling.

  18. M.... L....

Kenny Loggins has written so much incredible music. But, why does no one post Down 'n' Dirty from Nightwatch??

  19. d.... s....

El solo de 4:15 me parece cuando me masturbaba en la adolescencia!!!!Con todo respeto a la musica! El climax...total......

  20. d.... s....

Que fuerza! KENNY! Tu voz y tu musica!

  21. P.... P....

heard turning on an aroma candle

  22. D.... J....

It was a departure from Loggins and Messina days that is for sure. It was a good album and wish we had more like it today. Todays music is like almost there but not quite. It is missing soul and a good beat. Rock is almost dead I am afraid. The country out today is nothing but fluff too.

    D.... J....

Mainstream music has been shittier since January 1, 2004.

  23. W.... ....

    BREATHTAKING!!! All about LOVE...

  24. M.... S....

I remember paying this on my little blue Panasonic tape player at Camp Weetamoo when I was 9. Still love this song. Awesome comment TheRootsMan.

    M.... S....

    Westford, Mass. Meilseoir?

  25. T.... ....

This is one of those moody and very interesting, [almost] "lost" songs from the 1970's that made the very notion of merely being awake during the darkened and shadowy moments in the evening and early morning hours extremely powerful and very romantic. I mean not merely the rush of sexual chemistry; but also that connecting bond that we all have to our most primal of natural instincts ~ not only in our everyday lives, but especially at night when the real power of suggestion thrives at its peak.

    T.... ....

    Excellent, excellent point.

  26. m.... ....

    Stunning
