Kenny Latimore is getting close to legendary artists such as Donnie Hathaway and Amy Winehouse with this cover of the song originally recorded by Al Kooper on the first album of Blood, Sweat and Tears (the only one he did with them). The song was written by Kooper but inspired by Otis Redding's "I Love You More than Words can Say". I had the privilege of seeing Al Kooper perform the song live with BS&T at Fillmore West in San Francisco in the late 60's, they were the first "rock" band to add a horn section and just blew everyone away.
I only learned recently that this was not originally by Donny Hathaway and that he had remade it. I was shocked to find out it was originally Blood, Sweat & Tears! When I heard their version, I was blown away by these white dudes! But then again, there was so much talent in the 60s and 70s. I was born in 1966, but my mother liked many different styles of music, so I was fortunate to be exposed to a variety of genres.
