I didn't even know 1D had a version of this song only until I read the comments a few months ago. But I loved Kelly's from the start and still love it the most. Not surprised 1D wanted to record this song... The lyrics are fucking incredible and the song is amazing.

To everyone who thinks that One Direction is the the original 'artists' of this song, your sadly mistaken. Kelly Clarkson is, she didn't know if she should give 1D her song. She doesn't normally give away her songs like that, but she liked how they sang it, so she gave it to them. I have to admit though, both versions are amazing. I have nothing against One Direction.

Half the people commenting on here probably haven't even heard One Direction's version. BECAUSE IT'S PRETTY MUCH THE SAME FREAKING THING. Stereotypical boyband my butt. Their first album was eh, but their most recent work is so beautiful. You go and try to hit Zayn Malik's note in You & I and then tell me it's not meaningful. Because you wouldn't work so hard to hit a note if the song didn't mean much to you.

The reason Kelly's version doesn't sound "as good" is because she recorded it as a DEMO and didn't really go back to "fine tune" it because she wasn't going to use it herself, otherwise it would have sounded more finished if she were to go back and really perfect it.
