Kearney, Mat - What's A Boy To Do Lyrics
I'm sure that I'm moving to St Louis
Three long years wondering here in New York City
I guess I'm looking for the right way to do this
I guess I'm looking for the right things to call pretty
Young boys playing in the park turning their backs to take a shot
It's the kind of love that comes and goes when there's company coming around
What's a boy to do who knows no man now?
What's a boy to do who knows no man now?
Daddy's been looking down his nose at all of them
And I've been looking round for someone to tell me who I am
He kept saying I was to young to finish a fight
I'd die each time they came I never got to draw my knife
Well it was just a pair of shoes in a middle school room with the world watching in
Funny which words stick around 20 years down when you're driving alone
What's a boy to do when there's no man at home?
What's a boy to do when there's no man at home?
Well I'll stack all my books in perfect rows
From the biggest down to the smallest ones
And I buy all the perfect clothes
Bullet proof and black, where I look like a son
Well it was just a rain night at his house
A bottle spinning around the room
And everybody's singing and slipping down the bottom halfway rush of blood
And I was grabbing Missy but I was trying to find the light switch in the dark
What's a boy to do with no man in his heart?
What's a boy to do with no man in his heart?
It's all quiet for the first time
With no voices left to fall
I saw a boy at the bottom of the bridge
His car was left there on the top
It's four o'clock in the morning
Didn't need to be like this
There's a white sheet left to cover up
What should have been a holy kiss
It's not like those days
It's not like I'm scared of you
What's the son of man and a boy to do?
What's the son of man and a boy to you?

I’m still here ... not a boy anymore tho
I am not a guy and I had my dad around growing up, but this song makes me cry each time I hear it. It evokes the feeling of being lost and just (what I think is) giving up trying to be accepted by a harsh stepdad, the cruelty of middle school, all of it. Such a beautifully sad song. I heard this once on Pandora, and immediately was taken with it 10+ ago and have loved it since.

I kinda want to know what @MattWn20 said now...:\

So, pretty much, God does what is best for the people. Plus, if you know anything about God, you know that He wouldn't have killed them if they would not have had a second chance!
NO one is innocent. We're born with a human nature that separates us from God, but He gave us the choice to repent, and forgives us. God gave you life, though, and that means He has the right to take it away!! Part of the Ten Commandments: "For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, and showing MERCY unto thousands of them that love me and keep My Commandments."
Why doesn't this have more views??
5 people got a bunch of whoopings by they dad
Nice commercial, but I have to wait 2 minutes to know if this is political.
This is a GREATTTTTT SONGGGGGGG!!!!!!
I was listening to this working on Excel, and now I'm in a state of melancholy.
He sounds like a lower pitched Chris Martin
I'm not sure if this is really the connection that should be made but a friend of mine lost his father when he was young, at the age of 17 he's now a drug dealer. I honestly wish I could trade places with his father because I know his kid can do so much better. I heard this song a long time ago but last night cried for about an hour just thinking the life he could've had. But what can you do right? He's made his own decisions but I know if he were to have this man at home it would be different.
this guy and his music have gotten me through some pretty rough times
im not out of the water yet, but i can always look forward to hearing his songs
7 years later...hope you're doing well <3
@MattWn20 Wow, you have a lot of anger. I'm sure you are a miserable person on the inside. Try and respect others, not curse them. I'm sure you will understand one day when you grow up and expand your vocabulary further than cliche four letter words and don't involve yourself so heavily in the fulmination of God. Then again, you may never understand this, you don't seem bright at all, so I shouldn't assume you would understand a concept so simple.
wow, very powerful.
@MattWn20 You guys have it all wrong. God Loves us and is here for us, but he gave each and every one of us AGENCY we are free to choose. In this song some loser dad didnt stick around to raise his son, so hopefully this will touch some father that is about to step out on his son. Our decisions effect others, God lets agency happen cause thats the plan. And those that die young are to o pure for this world anyway.
The Mike Wilson Experience right welfare line and free feedings are drawn out heartaches.bless the volunteers..yet redundancy and quality interaction is few n far between when relying on the sources over and over leaving day labor as the usual option to find independence and take a break from the already anger or disappointment that probably is in a state of symbiosis while coexisting with the many others.

Because I like this song so much it is really hard for me to understand how even 2/120 don't like it...I am too closed minded probably, but I don't think there is anything about this song that I don't like
@flcn92 P.S. I'm not asking this sarcastically, I'm asking in all honesty.
@MattWn20 It's not hard to do so when a lot of what he says are metaphors. It is what it is. You say it's too bad he's a Christian, why? Do his beliefs and what other fans of his say who share the same beliefs somehow diminish the fact you appreciate his music without sharing the same beliefs?
@MattWn20
ate them
@MattWn20 true that, true that.
I don't give a rip what the feminists and junk scientists say, boys need their fathers. A boy left to his own devices and raising himself will make colossal mistakes that might not be able to be healed.
The meaning in his words are what touchh me so deeply...what an amazingg song.
Nothing Left to Lose...
which album is this from? I can't find it listed
I believe its about a kid who had no male role models and lived a wild life and ended up killing himself or dying from living a fast life. A song about what could have been with the right father to raise him.
This is a great song but I don't understand what its about? Whats he trying to say?
Very nice song..
is this song soooo similar to feeder's ''feeling amoment '' ?
lol it's user-made... it's just a picture zooming in and out... not a video xD
Beautiful song, his best in my opinion.
All of his songs are great though, amazing artist.
Amazing song, thanks for posting.
