Katherine Jenkins - Nessun Dorma Lyrics

[ITALIAN:]
Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma!
Tu pure, o, Principessa,
nella tua fredda stanza,
guardi le stelle
che fremono d'amore
e di speranza.

Ma il mio mistero e chiuso in me,
il nome mio nessun sapra!
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo diro
quando la luce splendera!

Ed il mio bacio sciogliera il silenzio
che ti fa mia!

(Il nome suo nessun sapra!...
e noi dovrem, ahime, morir!)

Dilegua, o notte!
Tramontate, stelle!
Tramontate, stelle!
All'alba vincero!
vincero, vincero!

[ENGLISH:]
None must sleep! None must sleep!
And you, too, Princess,
in your cold room,
gaze at the stars
which tremble with love
and hope!

But my mystery is locked within me,
no-one shall know my name!
No, no, I shall say it as my mouth
meets yours when the dawn is breaking!

And my kiss will break the silence
which makes you mine!

(No-one shall know his name,
and we, alas, shall die!)

Vanish, o night!
Fade, stars!
At dawn I shall win

Katherine Jenkins Nessun Dorma Comments
  1. z.... ....

I adore Jenkins, but I didn't know if I would like a Mezzo singing a Tenor
piece of Opera. I think she did a Bravo job, its that powerful voice she has,
it brought the drama that Pavarotti had to her version.
And yes she is the most beautiful blonde woman singing today.

    z.... ....

The most beautiful, without any qualifiers.

  2. S.... M....

I am a classically-trained opera singer and I can tell you that she is absolutely Flawless in every way shape and form. Her intonation the way she hits her vowels the natural way it comes out of her body without Force she is fantastic this is what pure operatic voice sounds like.

  3. S.... A....

    Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma!
    Tu pure, oh Principessa
    Nella tua fredda stanza
    Guardi le stelle che tremano
    D'amore e di speranza

Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me
    Il nome mio nessun saprà
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò
    Quando la luce splenderà
    Ed il mio bacio scioglierà
Il silenzio che ti fa mia

    (ll nome suo nessun saprà
E noi dovrem, ahimè, morir, morir)

    Dilegua, oh notte!
    Tramontate, stelle!
    Tramontate, stelle!
    All'alba vincerò!
    Vincerà!
    Vincerò!

  4. L.... M....

maravillosa VOZ me encanta ese tema, y mi tarea es aprendermelo y estudiarlo ;)

  5. Z.... ....

    Mille mercis !!!

  6. C.... N....

so how many of you critics can equal or better her singing ?

  7. P.... H....

    she is very beautifull

  8. L.... C....

Why the hell do pop singers want to sing opera? Bloody horrible! She has not the slightest idea what this aria is about!

    L.... C....

+Mar R So because she's Welsh she can't be a good opera singer? I think she has a beautiful voice

    L.... C....

Do you know what opera is? just curious...

    L.... C....

+Jamie Barbi correction she is a mezzo...

but to me, her low notes are to wobbly, I am no expert when it comes to mezzo-soprano low notes. But I don't really like her lower register... SO, in the end I guess she is a soprano without high notes?

I also prefer tenors singing this :)

    L.... C....

+Mar R I tend to prefer tenors myself, but I still enjoy this rendition

    L.... C....

Even though Katherine Jenkins is no opera singer, I think she has a very beautiful voice. I really think she should stop trying her luck at opera, cuz in just some way her voice kinda sounds weird in this art form

  9. D.... ....

This is exactly who Jackie Evancho will turn into when she is older, and if she continues singing.

    D.... ....

No. Jackie has chosen classical crossover instead of full opera, so she probably won't sound like this. And Jackie has a brighter sound.

  10. g.... ....

    This is fantastic.

    g.... ....

    Katherine jenkins is awesome

  11. N.... S....

Må blodet godt løbe et manddigt sted hen nu??

  12. L.... t....

Wow! the fire fighter partys of my childhood.

  13. l.... ....

While Kathryn Jenkins has a beautiful instrument in her voice, this aria is not the best choice for her.

    l.... ....

It was written for a tenor, which is why this stinks.

    l.... ....

@Janet Steinman It doesn't stink. It's a matter of opinion. If it stank, why would it be produced in the first place? An opinion from a nobody like you is worth jack shit.

  14. O.... 2....

BUT, K.J., over 30 now, is still the sexiest think ever on opera stage, over Mia Perhson, Isabel Leonard, Danielle De Niese, etc.

    O.... 2....

She's never been on an opera stage, also she if she looks better than Isabel Leonard it's because she's had her tits done and a ton of other plastic surgery. If she sang real opera for a living, she wouldn't look like a Barbie because she wouldn't have a reason to keep her appearance up that much.

    O.... 2....

@Alix Androvna You are so right. Ha ha ha!!!!

    O.... 2....

Right.   But it won't be fair to ignore the sexy looks.

Her singing of opera pieces is quite a different matter, I can't really stand it. Check out my discussion on Habanera/KJ.

    O.... 2....

    @Bob E.
Ha ha ha. A "Popera"(which does not exist) Star who only has a "sexy" face. Poor lady~~

    O.... 2....

    @Alix Androvna

You got it here - plastic !
There is something plastic about the lot - show, smile, breasts and breathy, syrupy performance.  Popera for the plebs.
(I stand by the sexy bit though)

  15. O.... 2....

Sorry guys, this one is really BAD in every respect - voice, technique and musical taste. But note - it was in 2008. She's improved a lot since - e.g. try her O mio babino caro.

    O.... 2....

It is just another disaster, OK??

    O.... 2....

    @ko sum

I say, not a disaster, just not good enough to qualify as an opera singer.

  16. E.... C....

Very nice but too "mechanical". Jackie Evancho set the standard on this operatic aria with her performance on Britain's Got Talent in 2011.

    E.... C....

+Everett Cox Ha! Not even close.

    E.... C....

A girl mimicking an operatic soprano set the standard on an aria written for a dramatic tenor???? O my goodness...

  17. X.... M....

    Amazing

  18. C.... B....

Funny :Katherine is good enough to duet often with Placido Domingo and on Oct 25 with Jose Carreras in Abu Dubei. Are these Opera singers good enough for you Opera critics?

  19. a.... e....

I love this version of nessum dorma,But i would like to say that my favorite not counting pavarotti is Deanna Durbin singing in english is fantastic.

  20. B.... L....

Good for you! She is a better role model than most classical singers. And her fans appreciate the lack of vinegar in your post. I'll look forward to your post of the song.

  21. C.... B....

I see the opera snakes are coming out of their holes again to spit their vitriol about Katherine. What a sick bunch you are !!

    C.... B....

    Well said!

  22. T.... ....

i honestly just got so excited when i managed to hit the high b ;)

  23. e.... ....

this song is way too short!

    e.... ....

Puccini died before he could finish Turandot, this was his last Aria. Far too short, I agree.

  24. N.... D....

That is true, its been done long before even:
    watch?v=inV3RlOTOXM

So, I would agree that anyone can cover the aria, however, I believe one can still voice their opinion on the sound of such and if it seems correct to them.

  25. E.... C....

In the opera house you're right but this and all the other performances by females were performed either in the studio(as this one was) or in concert or other stage presentations like Brightman and Evancho's performances. I see no issue with females performing Nessun Dorma outside the opera house.

  26. E.... C....

It's very strange she didn't use her 'opera voice' on this recording. I really like her voice here. My opinion(and the opinion of many opera fans) is her opera voice is horrible. If you haven't heard that voice search Katherine and Placido Domingo Come What May. Absolutely the worst thing I've ever heard.

  27. E.... C....

Yes but most people don't know that. They don't know the story behind it. All they hear is a beautiful aria. And besides, Deanna Durbin, Sarah Brightman and Jackie Evancho have also sung it, Jackie's version to me being the best. I've heard all the great tenors sing this aria and I think it's very refreshing to hear a female voice sing it.

  28. l.... g....

no she is a classical singer

  29. E.... C....

I think she did a credible job on this great aria. Her interpretation could be more emotional(see Jackie Evancho) but her voice is certainly up to the job here. Besides, as beautiful as she is, she would have to sing like a fence-sitting cat before I would criticize her. :D

  30. S.... M....

I'm sorry but she has a good voice but she isn't an opera singer.

    S.... M....

Exactly. She never claimed to be an opera singer.

  31. A.... ....

She sounds like a chicken on the high notes.

    A.... ....

    Excuse me?

  32. T.... M....

Jesus Christ that gave me the biggest goosebumps ever!

  33. r.... ....

this women has made me listen to opera and the classics and also grow to love them (What is wrong with that?) probably some idiot with blinkers on lol what a shame he cannot be as open to different genres of music (BECAUSE THERE ARE DIFFERENT GENRES) and maybe learn something. A reformed rocker!!!!!!!
We all don't have a silver spoon but the serfs are now allowed to listen!!!!!!!!

  34. P.... S....

Ummmm. filthy words, sexist remarks, insulting words.....the same type of language that was used towards Miley Cyrus. My great nieces used to ask me what certain words meant and later why people were so mean. Now here you are still not grown up, still insulting in your adult childhood.

  35. Y.... ....

This is an opera aria for TENOR, for a MAN.

  36. M.... A....

Great music. The pictures are also great.

  37. U.... ....

@gill2711 That may be the case but they don't have to express their opinions in unnessisary ways that is merely insulting. :)

  38. g.... ....

@UPtoNGiRL1 Erm, they kind of have a point, I do agree some females sound fantastic singing this but the lyrics are about a man so in love with a princess he's willing to risk his life to rescue her.. (if they fail she beheads them.)

  39. U.... ....

Eurgghh people who say this is only a mans song should just piss off and take thier sexcism somewhere else.

  40. R.... F....

  41. 0.... ....

very nice katy.a very nice performance.there are some arrogant people cmmenting here that are not qualified to make some of the deragatory remarks, this womans voice is very very good.im sure she can find much applause where ever she performs.

  42. H.... L....

Oh boy, this is not the song for her, Sarah Brightman is way way way...better

  43. j.... n....

...this is a man's song...a woman shouldnt sing it....thats like pavarotti singing in questa reggia or franco corelli singing habanera....it just wont be right...

    j.... n....

The reason nobody cares is because unlike you, they have a life.

  44. R.... C....

If she wants to sing these songs let her sing them, I love her voice to bits and music is about doing things your way.

  45. H.... E....

wasn't listening, spent all the time looking at ...erm...her lungs!

    H.... E....

    Ahha
    Totally bought it

  46. D.... ....

@philhealey1 Then put it online, put up or shut up

  47. m.... ....

@blichilde Yes, I know where you go. Thank fate many of us are less picky about the delights of music where near perfection raises the expectations of the few. But there is space for all in this world. Ugliness and discordance for some –few- is beauty and angelical singing for the more. So I guess happiness is a taste that dwells in blessed ignorance. Or in a wise, old eclecticism.

  48. b.... ....

@magnvss Nothing wrong of course. So, she must enjoy her beauty, use her beauty in pop shows, sing pop music and stop the massacre of poor Puccini. Have you ever heard a true opera singer ( this aria is written for a tenor, that is a male voice, BTW) in this piece? Pavarotti, for instance?

    b.... ....

If Puccini saw and heard her I’m pretty sure he would get wood.

  49. m.... ....

@blichilde No she hasn't. What wrong with beauty?

  50. e.... ....

@jeanmolin55 non vedo l'orribile... me lo potresti spiegare???

  51. J.... C....

I'm sorry to say, she is not Mezzo soprano, she is just Mezzo, and her voice is a Pop voice, she isn't prepare to sing opera.....

  52. a.... ....

    @blichilde you are wright!

  53. c.... ....

    @Gerbilsingsmezzo
Why don't you show us how it's done ?

  54. L.... ....

She is such a bad singer... I love Sarah Brightmans version, but this is just bad. She can´t hold the notes!!!! It sounds not good.

  55. r.... ....

I too prefer it to be sung by a man. I did not like this version. It lacked passion to me.

  56. k.... ....

i was at proms in the park this year, i am a straight guy, i dont cry for anything that isnt worth it. Im not ashamed to say that she made me cry because she was purely that amazing

anyone who says that she isnt a good singer obviously are void of hearing

  57. O.... ....

You are quite right. It's the new taboo. One can't make any criticism of artists who have been embraced by the media. She has made her millions, she must be good , mustn't she? I am so sad the public is being so let-down by the phenomenon of the "created star" in this way. There is so much more in terms of technical competence, imagination, colour and heart-moving passion that they should be hearing instead of this bland, over-packaged and frankly poor offering.

  58. O.... ....

Why are people scared of telling the truth? Just to avoid being accused of being jealous?
Jenkins is very pretty and is extremely well-styled. She comes across as a nice person.
What she is is an ordinary singer. She would never sing in opera professionally because no-one would have her - though cynical managements might think it worth it now to fill their theatres.
The difference between live and recorded with Jenkins is too big to take her seriously as an artist. Good luck in the USA!

  59. O.... ....

Don't really like this sung by a woman, but very interesting to compare this to Deanna Durbin's version. Yes, I know that was 1943 but she didn't have the benefit of modern recording technology to help out in the "hard bits". Durbin sings in the correct key (which makes the high notes properly climactic) and sings in tune with one voice ie with an even natural tone throughout all registers. By the way, she's just as attractive.

  60. b.... ....

    She's beatiful,but she's supposed to sing,not to be a top model.
She has ruined a wonderful piece.

  61. O.... ....

Interesting to compare this with her live version sung in front of Buckingham Palace. The wobble is gone and it sounds quite steady. She copes dramatically better with the demands of the aria. That's the wonder of the recording studio! So many of peers benefit from it, though Ms Jenkins, as yet, has not had to resort to employing another singer for her high notes as a certain northern tenor does.

  62. P.... J....

    Wow! She`s beautiful =)

  63. j.... ....

You wish you had a tenth of her talent, a half of her looks and some of her money, you whining little nancy.
