I think this song is exactly about a heartbreaking situation that tells a story about a murder. About a love that could never be, so the only way to end this all is to just kill your half, because things could never be what you imagine them to be.

Here is what I interpret from the song

A man went to the river to kill himself.

He saw a woman crying in sorrow. She decided to jump in the water to end her suffering.

Suddenly he thought to himself that people had two option to end the pain.
Option 1: Sucide ends the suffering
Option 2: Let it go also end the suffering

The man choose option 2...

i keep imagining like.. wintry, or watery.. i love how the melody is with "the weather" it just fades off and goes down a note..as if through the air with the cold weather. or lonely weather.. (autumn going towards winter). i love this song.. it's so beautiful yet so simple.
