Kansas - Eleanor Rigby Lyrics

Ah, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people

Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been
Lives in a dream
Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door
Who is it for?

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

Father McKenzie writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear
No one comes near
Look at him working, darning his socks in the night when there's nobody there
What does he care?

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

Ah, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people

Eleanor Rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name
Nobody came
Father McKenzie wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave
No one was saved

All the lonely people (Ah, look at all the lonely people)
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people (Ah, look at all the lonely people)
Where do they all belong?

Kansas Eleanor Rigby Comments

Sorry, this is likely going to be an extremely unpopular opinion, but Steve Walsh sounds awful to me on this album. I couldn't even listen to the whole thing. I used to have this CD, but ended up giving it right back to the used CD store I found it at. I thought, "Wow, Kansas with the London Symphony Orchestra?? This is going to be amazing!" And the music certainly is. But those vocals...he was fantastic in his heyday, but his voice is just shot.

Эта музыка звучит в известном мультфильме "Жёлтая подводная лодка", вот тут исполняет её группа "Канзас" и я люблю эту мелодию, она о людях и называется Eleanor Rigby.

Why is everybody always comparing song versions, bands, vocalist's voices from past and present, yadda yadda yadda? It's silly to try and compare the Beatles version of this song and the Kansas version. Both are very different. First, the Beatles wrote the damn song and they had a reason to have the simple strings in it. If you read anything that Paul wrote about the song, that was all intentional.

The Kansas version is coming from a totally different place. They made it more of a rock song, instead of the simple strings that Paul wanted. I prefer the Beatles version, but that's just because it was the first version and the version by the writers.

The Kansas version is great, and it is a total rocker of a song. I'd be interested in hearing what Paul thinks of this version, because it's not how most covers of the song sound. I don't usually like covers of Beatles songs, because Beatles versions of the songs are so hard wired into my mind. But, this version is very different. I'm not really sure why, but I like it a lot.

The orchestra helps with the dynamics, but it also has that rock sound, with the tempo of the song and the prominent drums. Steve really makes it sound like a killer rock song, too. And I'm not sure who all sang harmonies, but I just think it's a kick ass cover. And if you know me, I don't say that about a Beatles cover very often.

First release always better when it stands out ,a point of recall, but this is much better played & of course helps the symphonic orchestra to that!!!

  5. S.... A....

Come on people Walsh's voice is not good here and it's barely passable. The original is much better. I'm a huge Kansas fan but not enough to shit on the fucking Beatles. Walsh sounds creepy on this entire album.

    S.... A....

I think this is violinist Robbie Steinhardt singing.

  6. R.... H....

    Hmmm... Well it's different...

  7. A.... P....

Damn this is such a powerful cover.

  8. P.... M....

Though this is not a bad cover. ..it the day it would never have made it onto the charts.

  9. R.... L....

THERE'S NO BETTER OR WORST , IS THE SAME SONG , DIFFERENT VERSIONS ,DIFFERENT PERFORMERS AND ARRAGEMENTS, BOTH ARE GOOD

  10. c.... ....

better than the beatles version, no disrespect

    c.... ....

+chrisw10000 That's OK. To each his own. This version is more current and more of a rocker! Just remember though that this one wouldn't be here without the original creation from the amazing Beatles. Having said that, I love this one too!

  11. P.... P....

I'm sorry Paul McCartney, but this version was much better than the original!

  12. k.... ....

    8 people suck goat choad

  13. N.... K....

    Totally nailed it .

  14. R.... C....

    Muy bueno. :-)

  15. L.... C....

    The best!

  16. C.... S....

    beatles=├▒¥ stink

  17. C.... S....

Look everyone: Simple fact: kansas rocks, Beatles, well, not really as much as kansas

    C.... S....

+Cycad Succulent the truth has been spoken

    C.... S....

It can never be a "fact" that one band is superior to another in your opinion.  I doubt that the Beatles would have ever lain awake at night worried about competition from Kansas!

  18. A.... Y....

Как истовый фан Ливерпульской четверки, всегда скептически относился к любой попытке переосмыслить их творчество. Но эта версия Kansas с Лондонским симфоническим оркестром, приятное исключение...

  19. r.... ....

Matthew Halbing, you are wrong when you say that a cover cannot be better than an original. You only have to name one to prove you wrong and there are many!

  20. b.... m....

very good cover song!  thanks for sharin it with us.....

    b.... m....

    You're welcome.

  21. S.... A....

I still liked the Beatles version better, but hey, we're all entitled to opinions right? :)

    S.... A....

Me too but I can't imagine anyone doing a better cover than this.

  22. j.... e....

OH YEAH! Kansas is the best band of all time, This Version crushes the Beatles Eleanor Rigby, The music in this version is just so much better than the Beatles. The Beatles were just drugged out hippies anyway............Go Kansas!

    j.... e....

You're looking for an excuse to eliminate the Beatles.  Suppose you compared bassists Paul McCartney and Gene Simmons.  Would you find it relevant that Simmons has never done drugs and Macca has?

  23. B.... ....

The Beatles version was the best in my opinion. The Beatles actually focused on the lyrics, not adding too much to the background.

    B.... ....

I prefer good music to lyrics although both are very important. Kansas rules!

  24. t.... ....

Walsh's voice was shot by now. Too bad.

    t.... ....

It wasn't in 1970's form, but he still sounds pretty good to me!

  25. I.... ....

It's okay, but it seems a bit off to me. A bit too heavy on the vocals, I think.

  26. T.... S....

Sorry, there's no one that comes close in song writing. Who is Rush and Kansas? lol

  27. T.... S....

Although I can concur that some of the Beatles songs are performed the worst by the Beatles. Sometimes I get sick of hearing lennon, mccartney and harrison's voices and style. They were by far the greatest song writers of all time, but sometimes you just want to hear something different

  28. T.... S....

i said "it's not original", not "it's not THE original". It's both unoriginal AND it ruins the song. It's just gross.

  29. O.... ....

    @ZEBEDEEIT
    XD
    you suck

  30. T.... S....

and just to make a simple comment, this cover is shit.... it's not original.... it ruins the song...

  31. T.... S....

@ZEBEDEEIT That is an interesting comment. You must not like the Beatles' vocals, huh? Otherwise, what are you smoking? The Beatles' version of the Beatles' best song has to be the best!

  32. S.... ....

    EXCELLENT

  33. T.... ....

    amazing *____*

  34. e.... ....

One of the best Beatles covers I've ever heard.

  35. r.... ....

And that version is a masterpiece! In other words they all are extraordinary!

  36. c.... ....

This is a great rendition but I think it would be best without drums.

  37. j.... ....

This cover is WICKED...I'm not usually a big fan of covers of Beatles songs, but this one rocks!

  38. R.... H....

    Great version!!!
    *****

  39. i.... ....

Just because covering a song is lame. Write one yourself.

  40. a.... ....

@redsox4life247 Your argument proves that the Beatles are better musicians, but doesn't speak as to why a version that doesn't sound as good is "better". Because the Beatles had less time to learn it, its therefore better? Sweet, my version is going to be best of all because I will have had about 5 minutes to learn it.

  41. C.... ....

Eleanor Rigby will forever be a warground for Kansas and Beatles fans.
    /discuss

    C.... ....

    Kansas r00lz, The Beatles dr00lz.

Oh, you meant give reasons. Just look at the length and complexity of the songs.

  42. m.... j....

    lol dear o dear

  43. R.... F....

This may be the most perfect song I've ever heard... In my opinion, 10x better than the Beatles.

  44. G.... B....

Great cover....Check out accuradio beatles plus.

  45. W.... ....

i love when bands combine orchestra with their music.. this is awesome.

  46. M.... K....

Very cool cover from the best band of all time. Love the pic with the lyrics at 1:00. I'm going to buy this album very soon :-)
    Michael.

  47. G.... ....

It's an amazing cover, which I'm finding is a little rare when you look at the ratio of Beatles covers, good to bad, but Kansas just isn't the same without Kerry Livgren. Ah well, at least Walsh and Steinhardt were there.

    G.... ....

When it comes to Kansas doing cover songs, most Kansas fans aren't going to know if Livgren played on it or not.

  48. j.... ....

    Not bad
    Big Country's cover is better.

  49. A.... R....

LOL! Yes I'm an artifact from'67. and I grew up with this FAB music. But I'm a late bloomer in the full apprieciation that Kansas deserves.

  50. A.... R....

WOW! I wasn't sure I would like this, But it's FAB! I want the CD now!( I almost said 'album' just dated myself) Thaks rickyon for posting!!

    A.... R....

    @ Amy Richardson
"I almost said 'album' just dated myself".....no, they're all albums whatever format they come on....and besides, vinyl is outselling CD's anyway, so you could have said LP and you would still have been up to date!

  51. E.... ....

Love IT Awesome Song I actually prefer it to the original
