Kamelot - Glory Lyrics

Sworn by the crown
I lead a crusade
Fight for belief to be one

Out in the field
Fearless and cold
Building the road to my Calvary

Strong is my steel
Dark is my mind
Carmine the ground that I tread

Faith in my god
Keeps me alive
But when does my faith turn to doubt

Silently watching the rain
Carving the earth on my grave
Lord you know that I prayed
One for the glory
And one for the souls that I've slain

How will I know
How could I tell
Where would I find some serenity

Sowing the seed
Unwounded I bleed
Lord won't you show me the way

Christ is the cross that I bear
God is the will of my war
Faint are the voices I hear
Whispers of glory...

Christ is the cry of despair
Cursing the day I was born
This is the faith that we share
Left with the glory
And suffering of souls that we've torn

    Fantastic Kamelot song. The lyrics bring up an interesting point, how can slaying people truly be God's word? Yet some people/crusaders claimed the glory back home as heroes despite the fact it was more or less slaughter. This crusader realized that they were not carrying out God's will, rather the opposite and feels deep guilt and regret. Very well composed and well written, in good Kamelot fashion.

    Also I see a religious debate and I am attracted to this like a moth to a flame. Clear Love stated some ideas that I dig into. For one, Science and Religion are not two juggernauts fighting each other to the bloody end, they are two side of the same coin. They both attempt to describe the world (the coin itself) but they face the other way. Only a combination of both truly yields the most plausible and logical answer. I find it hard to believe that a bunch of particles "existed" and the universe happened. I feel like life is too precious and too beautiful and too perfect that everything we have discovered is just a coincidence or has always happened. I believe a divine force/something/deity created the universe such that it could relax and enjoy the splendor of its creation. I think it would be best to state here I am a catholic and more of a moderate one. I pity my fellow christians who shove the bible into other's faces claiming that they cannot get into heaven unless they follow the bible word for word. They obviously didn't pay attention in mass cause whenever I go to church, the best way to spread Jesus's word is to live like him. Be generous to all. Be forgiving to all. Love life and creation. be modest. This is what it truly means to be a christian, and its hard. Yet do not despair! God loves every single one of us, we are his creation and thus we all are worthy of heaven. When we die and meet our maker in the afterlife we are not judged by a panel of saints or God himself, we are judged by ourselves. The judgement is whether or not we accept God's love back. Much harder than you think. Since God is the original creator, he is essentially perfection, and when you see perfection you realize how sinful you have been all your life. Do you hate and curse for God since some of these things were not sins? Or do you accept that you did these thing and embrace God's love. Besides, ignorance breeds hatred and despair. People should be tolerant of others beliefs and respect one another rather than condescending for something highly personal. So going back my fellow hardcore christians shoving the bible everywhere, realize that you are not doing God's word at all. I know this rant is long already and I can rant longer but I'll end with this little potential quote of someone. "I cannot tolerate intolerance" Love and acceptance is what will make us live in a better world, not hate and power.

    +Stylin' M I am the same way, i am atheist though, and the crusades is a demostration of the harm caused from religion. The bible is open for people to interpret anyway they see fit, there is a lot of genocidal acts, rape and slavery in the bible that theists had made excuses for when at a time they took more serious.

    "For one, Science and Religion are not two juggernauts fighting each other to the bloody end, they are two side of the same coin. They both attempt to describe the world (the coin itself) but they face the other way."

    Except science has objective ways to measure the validity of it, and religion is just a assumption believed on gullability (Faith).

    "I find it hard to believe that a bunch of particles "existed" and the universe happened. I feel like life is too precious and too beautiful and too perfect that everything we have discovered is just a coincidence or has always happened. I believe a divine force/something/deity created the universe such that it could relax and enjoy the splendor of its creation."

    I find it hard to believe that a being just happened by chance to be able to create a universe from the magical power of sound waves. You are putting a mystery on top of a mystery to explain a mystery, and special pleading the mystery to not need the requirements that you demand everything else to have. It is a fallacy where we both can agree the rule of causality exists, and you make a special exeption towards something to promote a idea.

    Well 400+ years of Islamic aggression by Muslims before the Pope even sanctioned the first Crusade. If it wasn't for the Frankish leader Charles the Hammer stopping Muslim aggression coming through Spain/Portugal (taken my Moorish Muslims) into France all of Europe probably would have been overrun. Plus the constant attacks on the Byzantine Empire it was just a matter of time before that empire fell to the hands of Muslims. All I can say is yes, all war is ugly but most historians agree the Crusades in theory, helped stopped the tide of complete takeover of mainland Europe and western civilization at the time, which which would lead one to say they were justified.

    S.... M....

    How dare you tell god what is and isnt? Who do you think you are?

    S.... M....

    @Erik Blazen This is modern era rationalizing stripped of historical context, mixing apples and oranges. Crusades are not about bringing war not into warfaring borders, war has always been there. Crusades are about bringing war into civilian grounds. And the church itself always condemned such acts. That's why "just cause" was invented, and first crusades were announced as defending of holy demand and right - pilgrimage into holy places. When some group start to making excuses against its own rules of agression, then u know some sh*t hit the fan.

    The languages of the Bible weren't dead when it was written genius.

  15. s.... ....

    There's no such thing as satan. There is evil and it's a state of horrible ignorance and dehumanization, but satan's a character from a fictional book called HOly Bible, a book used to brainwash and rule generations, however with a decent content of wisdom, despite it's unfortunate usage. The idea that an omnipotent God needs an incredibly silly book written in a dead language to communicate with his creation, however, is the real insult to humanity.

    Not all Christians are like that. Its just a stereotype. I believe in a God who does give chances. Although I call myself Christian i must say that I honestly fucking hate all the ones that go "DAMN YOU TO HELL IF YOU DONT BELIEVE IN MY SHIT!" Its unproductive. We've made a damned nuiscance of ourselves and thats how the world sees us. The bible was supposed to be Gods Love, not Gods Damnation. To be honest, I think character and actions should dictate afterlife, not only which deity you follow.

  20. N.... ....

    Actually, sorry to burst your bubble a little bit but it actually does make mention of dinosaurs in the bible, believe me or not. I'm not here to start an argument, just here to clarify. What are called leviathans and i believe behemoths(?) in the bible have been proven by ancient writings to have the same profile as some dinosaur, i believe stegosaurus or something. look it up. I also believe it says in Genesis our dominion over animals was taken? Not sure, myself, feel free to correct.

    @PropheticVindicator
    That's cruel. What about some kid from an Amazonian tribe who never got in touch with western civilization nor Christianity? Was he ever given a chance?

  28. C.... L....

    @PropheticVindicator
    I dont' think that God will be mad at me because I believe in evolution. Even my religious education teacher in elementary school didn't take it literally. Don't be so exclusive, I think atheists and muslims and some random african animal cult member will be in Heaven one day just like you ;)

  29. C.... L....

    @PropheticVindicator
    Also, you say: " I believe God and you don't." Even if I'm not religious, it doesn't make me an atheist. I can believe in God out of any religion, many philosophers did.

  30. C.... L....

    @PropheticVindicator
    Once people realise that science and religion don't contradict each other, there will be less stupid discussions. All pre-Christian civilisations 'used' God to explain everything they cannot understand. You don't need science to see that, it simple and natural ;)
    Tell me one thing: why symbolic understanding of God's word is wrong? Please don't tell me that you take The Book of Revelation literally?

  31. C.... L....

    @PropheticVindicator
    Lol. First, Bible was written by people, which that explains some things and also is a reason not to think 100% of the book is correct.
    Second, what is paradoxical in believing that for example creating the universe descibed in Bible is a metaphor?

  32. C.... L....

    @PropheticVindicator
    Yes, I'm Christian, I'm just not a creationist.

  33. R.... B....

    The thing I love most about this song is how the feeling of the narrator turns from depressive into angry towards the end. You can literally feel his desperation.

    ...the warriors live is hard...

    ;) REALY A MASTERPIECE! ;)

  36. C.... L....

    @zapheil
    LOL, I'm christian,and I don't believe that Adam and Eve existed. Old testament is symbolic, problem is that people don't realize it.

  37. .... ....

    @pandatrueno1 Oh, you were answered, sorry :D Well yeah, what zapheil said is true, I just explained it otherwise. Moses lived around 15 century BC i think. He made the first 5 books. Then as time passed the other books were made. They were comprised in around 5 century BC i think. People didn't want to listen tho, even though God showed He loved them...

  38. .... ....

    @zapheil Well, ppl are different. I've had hard times believing but i prayed for God to help me and He did. He's a great guy if you get to know Him. :)

  39. .... ....

    @pandatrueno1 Well, man, the Bible is of 2 parts. Old and New testament, y'know i guess. The old is comprised of few books of Moses, King Solomon, prophets psalms and some chronicles about the kings of the jews. All of em talked about the coming of Jesus. What archaelogists and historians find is that the old testament is from around 15th or 14th century (that's Moses's time). And the New testament is before 2000 years. Aaand history pretty much proves the authority of the Bible. :)

  40. .... ....

    @CallingCrowe And if you like the teachings of Jesus (which is the greek for Yoshua, which means Savior) then why not read one of the gospels? All that He's said is awesome and true to the letter. History says that too :)

  41. .... ....

    @WhiteDraenei that's what the people did not what christianity the Bible and God is.

  42. .... ....

    @CallingCrowe I do believe that the Bible is God's word, yes. History proves what's said in it. And they're not possessed, because they would've lost their free will.. And recently some manuscripts and scrolls of the Old Testament were found in a cave near the Dead Sea i think. They were dated to be around 150 BC and they were point to point accurate with those today. I've seen far too much to say that my faith is based on a lie. Jesus is real and lives. I hope you know Him someday...

    .... ....

    That book is fake there is no god, all that imaginary friend are illusions

  43. .... ....

    @pandatrueno1 Yeah you're really right about these things. Sadly people then were held in ignorance...But yet...we've never been there anyway so who knows... about the first 2 - Just because people did that doesn't make the Bible or God evil.
    And about the 3rd thing...well the Bible can :) There's more than a single case of scientists or general inteligent ppl who try to disprove or refute the Bible and when they read it honestly they end up saying what's in there is true.

  44. C.... ....

    @bakalovesbakachan:
    If you truly believe that a couple hundred Jewish ghost writers
    were possessed by the omnipotent spirit of the Universe itself,
    wrote down their inspirations in perfect form,
    and that they then proceeded to NOT CHANGE A THING for the next 6,000 years,
    then I both pity and envy you, in your blind faith.

    I am a follower of the teachings of Yeshua ben Yosef, but I do not even remotely buy into something that I know to be inconceivable within the bounds of the universe.

  45. .... ....

    @pandatrueno1 Yes I do, but those who couldn't read could listen, but it's a terrible fact that the Bible wasn't well known and people made their own authorities instead following the real authority of the Bible. AAaand yeah the Bible is written by people (now by machines), but the author of it is God. His Holy Spirit gave the words to the men who wrote it, so the author's God. There's historical proof about it and the Bible itself is proof enough only of itself about it.

  46. B.... ....

    People will cry on and on about Christianity, but look around you, your civilization is being destroyed by muslims. You wont even be allowed to listen to music 50 years from now; and you'll have to pray 5 times a day.

    enjoy.

    If anything, the crusaders should have done a better job and wiped them all out of existence. Christian civilizations turned into secular, democratic, prosperous, first world nations. The rest? to third world shitholes.

  47. M.... ....

    First song I ever heard by Kamelot. Brings me back. I was 11 at the time.

  48. P.... ....

    Some of them found glory, some of them found shame. May God have mercy on the souls of the crusaders. Requiescant in pace.

  49. E.... ....

    Roy Khan is one of, if not the best, male vocalist I have ever heard. It is a shame he left Kamelot. You will be missed Roy by your multitudes of fans!

  50. .... ....

    @linegenrou Actually there was a movie (i havent seen it but a friend of mine did and he told it to me) called Season of the witch (with Nicolas Cage). He was a crusader and after massacrading a whole village of women and children he knew this that he did could never be about such a thing as christianity.

  51. .... ....

    @linegenrou Well i'll try answering, but there are online bibles. If you want you could read Acts - it's written about how the disciples of God's son, Jesus, spread His teaching and news about the sacrifice that Jesus made for us and then His resurrection. I at least didn't see any crusader-like acts... Christianity is not "KILL THE INFIDEL"... the faith is just...love.

  52. T.... ....

    @bakalovesbakachan um,didn't they do that because it was in the bible?

  53. .... ....

    Such terrible things like crusades and inquisitions wouldn't have happened If only people stopped listening to the power of PEOPLE (pope king and so on) and listened to God and His words in the Bible. I hope the people's souls then found peace...

  54. N.... ....

    This song is about the Crusades from the perspective of a medieval Crusader after he and his folks slayed so many 'Heretics' in the name of God/ Then he regrets retrospectively sinking in his own qualms and regretfullness. Sounds splendid.

  55. M.... ....

    @hometail Well, Khans old band Conception numerous songs who was more or less, "un-religious," if you like

  56. C.... ....

    @TheEarthforge: There are ways to do it without injuring yourself, but in regards to operatic vocals, it will affect the vocal range a bit. Even so, he ISN'T doing them in that regard. His are audibly scratchy, and stretching his vocal chords. Granted, his vocal diminishing could be related to anything, but on this recording it's clear he's just stretching himself too much.

  57. T.... ....

    @CallingCrowe I've heard there are ways to do the grunts without injuring yourself, it just takes a heckuva lot of practice. Given Khan's so well practiced in opera, I think he can do the grunts as such.

    However, it is true his upper range has been diminishing. That might be linked to his burnout. However, it could also be family, friends, work, etc. The list goes on.

    In my little selfish view of the universe, it's frustrating as Kamelot is the one band I want to see live!

  58. C.... ....

    @ZuZaarr: He's referring to lately. Especially live. Khan has started doing Bjorn Strid's vocal parts in The Great Pandemonium, and has been doing little grunts in Elizabeth for a couple years now. It IS damaging his voice, and I don't know why he's continuing to do them. He has apparently been depressed lately, and having neurotic breakdowns (which is why the American tour was cancelled this year.) Perhaps it's his own little career suicide. We'll never know. I don't know the guy.

  59. C.... ....

    @hometail: This song is a story. The entire original theme of the band was medieval. The song isn't about Khan. They've never quite commented on their religious views, although Thomas has shown a negative disposition towards organized religion.

  60. S.... ....

    @hometail does it matter what religion they believe in?

  61. S.... ....

    Where do i find more songs of Kamleot like this 1??

    Reminds me of "He's a Pirate" =D

  70. T.... ....

    oh wow... I was introduced to Kamelot on Epica. I fell instantly in love and obsessed to death over it. I have got all of the recent discography, but I realized I hadn't seen what was before Epica. And my God, Khan is so versatile with his voice. Just so soothing, even now as he tends towards lower vocals and even got off some borderline grunts on One Cold Winter's Night.

    Kamelot is fucking awesome. That is a solid hard fact.

  71. F.... ....

    Great song nice pics,
