K'Naan - 15 Minutes Away Lyrics
Yeah, I am sending this one out to everyone who has had to wait on a money transfer
Yeah, it's kinda whack when they charge you like ten percent on the dollar, but you know how go it feels when they say...
[Repeat 4x:]
You can pick it up today
The worst thing is the waiting, man
It's spiritually draining
I guess I could repaint
But don't think I'm complaining
I'm in my small apartment
This month has been the hardest
I couldn't afford some omelettes
I'm broken like an empty promise
Sometimes when I'm in a meeting
and everyone else is eating
I feel so awkward asking
So I pretend like I am fasting
My girl had paid my payments
She wants to save my anus
She says my love's contagious
But my pride is so outrageous
She sent me Western Union
So I can make it through'n
It felt so bad when she said write down this 11 digits
I go out to receive it
I'm desperate and I need it
Feels like an angel speaking
I can hardly believe it
[Repeat 4x:]
You can pick it up today
It's 15 minutes away
You finally got a caller
You met him in Sao Paula
A tourist with a dollar
He's some kind of a balla
Two babies in a scroller
And still he wants to holla
He likes your Pepsi cola
But you ain't running low-la
Brazilians make it easy
For bellas or fo sheezy
The sun would make him dizzy
Working for something mezlee
These girls will make you trust em
Because sweetness in the custom
But everyday they hustlin'
Every day they hustlin'
John calls her with the number
Home with her local lover
Who was it that picked up the phone?
Oh, that was just my brother
She goes out to receive it
She's desperate and she needs it
It's like an angel speaking
She can hardly believe it
[Repeat 4x:]
You can pick it up today
It's 15 minutes away
I got my conformation
The Western Union agent said grandma's destination
Had violent inclination
But now I'm proudly pacing
And walking to the station
Heavy perspiration
But you can't tell me nothing
I got my biz in order
I made it cross the border
Such dazzle, such a horror
His life is like an opera
Grandma I never forget you
Worry, I'll never let you
Soon as I leave the venue
This money I will send you
I still haven't gone astray
Don't drink or smoke and sway
Though sometimes I don't pray
It feels so good to say
Go out and receive it
Cause I just know you need it
Your boy has grow up decent
Grandma, can you believe it?
[Repeat 4x:]
You can pick it up today
It's 15 minutes away

K'naan ❤
Why is stealing from other artists is ok? K'naan should give the proper credit to tilahun gessesse 'yene felagote'
@SignifieD bro if i came across as k'naan hater, i amnot. You can google songwriters for this song there is no mention of tilahun gessesse no credit given to the guy. The guy has passed away 10 years ago. You can't pretend he may be given him permission. Check the full credit below
Written By: K’naan, Track & Field (Brian West & Gerald Eaton)
Vocals: K’naan
Guitar: Ian Coleman
Bass: Brian West
Organ: Dwight Dawes
Producer: Track & Field (Brian West & Gerald Eaton)
Record Label: A&M Records
@SignifieD when you take other people's work whether it is in music or in book writing, you have to mention or credit the original person. Even if he gave a permission you still have to mention it or it is plagiarism. Not mentioning you copied somebody's work when you publish a book or released your music only mention you and your buddies like k'naan did here is fraudulent
@sam sammy I am sorry for his death.. and appreciate you for clarifying you're not just hating on k'naan.. I commented just to highlight not to accuse him of stealing others work.. let me ask you.. even though the original artist has died... do you know what kind of agreement k'naan made with him or his estate? because just cause he died doesn't mean anyone will be able to steal his shit.. if k'naan did that, he would open himself up to a whole lot of trouble.
@SignifieD yes you are right. I don't know if he asked for permission. His daughter lives in America like you said it is possible she might gave him a permission but he still has to give credit to the guy when he released the songwriters by the this isnot the only one, this is the second one. I live in Canada and i actually like k'naan songs and i don't think the guy's daughter is going to file a lawsuit it has been a common thing in Ethiopia young musicians to copy from old songs the copyright law is a joke.
@sam sammy K'naan has said that he is influenced by Somali music and the traditional instruments of Somalia. His 2009 album, Troubadour, also draws heavily from Ethiopian sources, particularly Ethio-Jazz by Alemayehu Eshete and Tilahun Gessesse.
I read this form google. this is giving credit for me. btw this song is not the only song, that he uses Ethiopian Jazz. hope you didn't heard any words from Ethiopian the let Tilahun Gesse or Alemayehu Eshete about not giving a permission for Knnan or not get payed from the artist.
2019 anyone
why he is using ethiopian melody
I left Chicago when I was 23 to live in Addis.. This was what I'd sing to myself as I walked to the dahabshiil.. Gaunt tired and hungover. Thank goodness for fam and friends.

damn. this just makes me feel good.
A modern influential genius at his best as usual :)
K'naan is a great artist, and has been since way before he landed that world cup contract. The Waving Flag remix was still a sell out tune though, I'd much rather hear this...
@yarka17 thats not exactly right...it should be: ''You finally got a caller, you met him in sao paolo, a tourist with a dollar, he's some kind of a baller two babies in a stroller, and still he wants to hollar he likes your pepsi-cola, but you aint runnin Lola Brazil aint nothin easy, favelas o fa sheezy"
if you dont like the song why do you have to spend your time looking it up just to diss it ? hmmm doesnt seem very smart to me f*#$ u 10 haters leave k'naan out of your mouthes unless you have something good to say. Relax : )
@abdi629 LOOOOOOOOOOOL yess, he should of!
@TheBaaadOne In fiji radio they play this type of music everyday, mostly underground independed hiphop and R&B itrs crazy! Not sure what other countrys do this, but i wish that major countrys did this like Australia, usa, Europe etc life would be so much better and less stressful! but they wnat our minds in a twist, its sad times we live in.
@abdiCALI , no one can handle 4 woman, in all honest. Gosh these misogynistic comments.

@albarkhadle i said good muslim not person. The prophet said not to drink alcohol so in doing that you are not a good muslim. and their are alot of muslims by name so thats why i said about 1.3milion.
@saqibtoofat. yes its haram, but by drinking alcohol doesn't mean you are a bad person. and remember to respect the people whether they drink or don't. that is their private life
@albarkhadle
Sorry but no... drugs and alcohol are haram in Islam, and also drinking and smoking affects your brain, so you kind of killing your personality.
@fockya every good muslim dosent drink or smoke. so theirs about 1.3bilion who dont. you know you can quit right?
That last verse...
