Julie Fowlis A Phiuthrag 'S A Phiuthar Comments
Perfectly maybe, she's the most talented etno musician, indeed.
Why can't I not stop crying every time I watch amd listen to this song
Lots of Faeries in the woods where I live in Canada. Just make sure ya don't eat their food or sip the cup.....
much love to all the Picts still in the old country.
St Brigid bless you Julie for comforting those dealing with great loss.
Oh, my heart...this is so lovely <3 I have a twin sister who is everything to me; I think losing her in this way would rend me to pieces.
Also, does anyone know if there's a rowing song with this melody? I don't know the words--in English, it starts with "Row, my beloved Kenneth, row."
Miss my family
Man. This was amazing. A bitter-sweet ending as well. But such an ending.
stop talking like this julie.
a head that is going back is not dying. nor are we missing you. we are one.
hobbes says you are always his calvin.
Some songs give us permission to fly
I didn't understand the lyrics but I just felt like crying. Love your songs
I miss my little sister. She left me too soon and I think of her whenever I hear this song. Maybe one day when I am old she will come back for me too.
The music, the church and the tradition.
The 3 owls.
I make whistles into this. I know what is going on.
I have always done this.
Julie said she liked the B whistle I sent her.
But Julie is not my only master.
The hills .. the search for our lost sisters?
Though the owls help .. there is far much more. If you are an owl.
Commitment and service tells us all.
I am glad to be at the service.
I am old . but I am alive.
To me this song represents perfectly how we are all egocentric about every single point of view we act. In one hand we have the girl that want to go away and can't consider the feelings of the sister she is abandoning by following her instincts; In other we have the lone sister that feels the absence of her sister and wish her back, without considering that the other is in happiness were she has gone. Even when we care about others is because how much WE will miss 'em. And even when we are only following our natural course we are still hurting others. True unconditional love is an illusion.
Saludos desde Colombia julie fowlis!!!!!! Hermoso trabajo
This breaks my heart.
Hi everyone, I'm sorry I haven't replied individually to your kind and moving comments. Some of them almost brought me to tears reading them. Thanks for taking the time to comment on this song, and please know I have read them all. Sending love to those who are coping with loss. Julie x
Julie your entire album is beautiful. Keep making music.
Thank you for making the world more beautiful
Beautiful album, Julie. I have been one of the few East Germans to listen to your music for years. Keep it up!
Julie, I am so happy & honored to have found your beautiful, meaningful songs on here. Always keep the language & the traditions alive. ❤
My sister passed away 10 years ago. This song makes me wonder how I will meet her again. She will still be a child and I will be old :)
Beautiful ,Just Beautiful.......
Tudo nesse vídeo é lindo: a música, a animação, o cenário, a cantora...lindo demais essa joia.
The music I'd like to hear upon entering heaven and seeing all my family
Ireland so far to heaven and so close to US and France.
Uhm its Scotland.
I get disconcerted when I see silly things like feathers falling with their stems pointing up contrary to nature.
I STILL LOVE YOU JULIE!!!
Charming music. Somehow it just slips into your heart and steals it. There should be a song about that. How the minstrel's song stole the people's hearts. Thank you for sharing your magic.
💚💚💚💚💚💚
Thanks Julie and all musicians for such a beauty
Lovely animation and song….
Thank you for putting this up - I love it so much, it really touches me. I've attempted to sing a few of Julie's songs at the Mòd, and this is one I will be trying this year. I hope I can do it justice.
This totally touched my soul and made my cry... So beautiful...
Ни слова не понимаю, но плачу, когда смотрю.
I've watched and listened some 12 times, I would like to have the chance to click "like" all those times. So, thank you, Julie and all great musicians who played with her, producers, videomakers and everyone involved.
beautiful song.
aaand I'm crying
I'm dying to hear a live version of this. I've searched everywhere and can't find one!
I could listen to this every day for the rest of my life. The "Ooooo Ooooo" refrain goes right to my soul.

Adore your music, Julie. So beautiful! Thank you...
To my sisters, with love .... Thank you .....
Yeah got to go home and see my sister
what language is that
Scottish Gaelic she hails from the Hebrides... a most beautiful language
Rich Gouette
When articulated in song,it’s far beyond beautiful.
Very beautiful.
i love your music and you have a beautiful voice :)
I was taught this song 40 years ago by a beautiful singer whose accompanist I was. This is the first time I have heard another version, since I didn't know how to spell the title. Even in the Western Isles I couldn't find anyone who had heard of it, so I am indescribably thrilled and grateful to have come across Julie's poignant interpretation of this song, which I previously thought was a mother's lament for a lost child.
I've always been so mean to my sister, but I cannot remember a single time she was rude or unpolite to me. She used to tell me she loves me and hug me everyday and each time I replied with "leave me alone". I feel terribly. I do love her, but I never told her that. I have not seen her in a month and I really miss her. I've taken her for granted. I am crying as I'm writing this. Thank you, Julie. I am calling my sister to tell her she's the most beautiful, lovely and precious person. I would die for her. For now on, I will be better at loving.
@Julie Fowlis
It's still not too late
Such a beautiful animation!
I am not ready yet to go with the owl .. I suppose the day must come.
How wonderful
You deserve more views and subscribers! Truly beautiful. I am buying your albums as soon as I have some extra money.
I think that the "fairies" were actually alien abductions. Some species may still have "fairy" wings and they just want to steal our genetic material
This is one song where you don't need translation from Celtic to English. Just understanding the bond between sisters can move anyone to tears. I have two daughters and by watching the animation along with the music I understood and felt the pain of separation between the two. It made me teary-eyed.... Another fabulous song by Julie! Love from Galicia!
I had to cry 😭😭
What a beautiful and lovely song 😊💕 Like Icelandic, Gaelic is also a very mystical and interesting sounding language 🍀
I didn't realize one song could make you feel so many conflicting feelings simultaneously.
J'ai des frissons, merci Julie Fowlis !
I love this ay
Meall do naigheachd a' Julie! Tigidh Samhainn 's sian nan sitheachan orinn a-rithist.
So beautiful, thank you Julie, Eleonore and Dima.
yeah, listening...again....
Very moving and mystical. With Halloween fast approaching it's a reminder of the close affinity the Celts had with nature and the interchangeability of species. Children turned into swans etc. Also, at Samhan (phon. Sow-On) pre-Christian festival coinciding with All Hallows or Halloween, Celts believed that the portals separating this and the other world were open so that people could come and go either way. English poet William Wordsworth believed in reincarnation and in his Ode Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood he wrote: "Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting". Julie Fowlis is a fantastic all round entertainer, performer and storyteller.
Love you and your music so much, Julie! Thank you!
I listened ti the new album since release day but I've only just seen this animation and it has moved me in many ways. Thank you.
Does anyone else find the rainbow owl fairy especially terrifying? I think it's the legs... and the way he's always lookin' at ya. (shudders)
Julie Fowlis is an excellent singer and great performer. I love her music.
This performance is simply magnificent, and the animation adds a lot. I absolutely love this song, and pretty much everything I've heard by Julie Fowlis.
""
have u seen her perform?
Guts would know how to handle those owls...
Beautiful! Song and video.
Amazing song and visualisation! Moved me to tears.
Oh yay a new Album ! Congrats ! 10/10 will buy!
I hope it's got some guitar-bouzouki.
I can't help but feel this song would have been helped by an irregular rhythm, like a two instead of the third bank of three.
Scottish Gaelic sounds just lovely! thank you for this!
Moving! I remember sitting at the table as a child and listening to your songs. Sometimes, my grandfather would translate for us and tell us of love, fun, and fables. May he rest in peace.
One word-Wow! An amazing artistic piece. JF is a World Heritage treasure...
no entiendo ni una sola pelabra de la cancion, pero por alguna razon me hizo romper a llorar...
After listening to this song just ordered album can't wait just a beautiful song
Damn onion ninjas...
It is so funny! I realized today that i didnt know how to say "sister" in Gaelic. Mother, Father,Brother yes....but not Sister...and i have more of those. So i just looked it up, and directly after i found this video. :)
You work in mysterious ways!
Tha thu iongantach!
🎶 ❤️‘S math sin ❤️ 🎶
wow! how utterly gorgeous!
Listening to this while thinking I’m going to see my family back in Bretagne
So beautiful.
Maravilhoso! Muito obrigado!

bòidheach!
I love this.
This is so unbelievably beautiful. I can't express the sadness which overwhelmed me. Thank you so so much Julie, for this beautiful music. Go raibh maith agat agus Dia duit
I think the song is in Scottish Gaelic, not Irish
Go h- álainn
@Jon Jenkins it doesn't matter - both languages are so similar that native speakers of either can understand each other, which is really lovely.
Julie - that was stunning - I don't speak giadhlig but your music and your voice combined with Eleonore and Dimas beautiful animation was spellbinding. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when she saw her sister sitting in the tree. Diolch yn fawr iawn mewn mannau eraill ar yr ymyl celtig.
Da iawn!

@Joss Arch I really appreciate what you're saying but Gaelic is not a closed exclusive language. If reaching out to more people means translating it into English so that more people can understand it, then that's fine. I am not a Gaelic speaker but I am learning it and I can assure you, that the Gaels are more than happy for it to be translated so that everyone can enjoy it. Othewise, it is just a beautiful noise with no meaning. Giving a translation in whatever language is in no way troublesome nor does it take away anything from Gaelic speakers. They are happy to share the beauty of their language with anybody who wants to listen. It is truly the language of angels.
@Sam the first four lines of the song are sung alone, and then after that, the last two lines of the first verse become the next two lines of the second verse, the last two lines of the second verse become the first two lines of the third verse and so on. It is a standard thing in these types of songs (see Coisich a Ruin by Capercaillie) but I know, it is difficult to get the hang of it at first. The translation in English then follows suit. Hope this helps.
@Joss Arch my friend, i dont see what it's taking away from? If anything it's adding more, because we english speakers will be able to learn and understand easier, and perhaps one day there will be no need for translations because we'll understand. What a dull world it would be if no one ever shared their culture or language, yeah? Putting the gaelic in parentheses doesnt note it as lesser, its just a way to tell the sections apart easier.
It almost reminds me of lily and petunia Evans. Lily is the one to get “stolen away” by magic and petunia is left to carry on, but she always resent magic. Eventually though, perhaps in death they reconcile and come together like these sisters did.
I love this idea
Oml! That's beautiful
The animation blends very well the the music, lends atmosphere & context, especially for us who have no Gaelic!
A beautiful and moving song and animation. The work of very skillful artists all round.
⛩❤️This is the kind of piece that could have 30,004 likes as easily as what you have. There are many pure souls in our life and more being born each minute. You captured that essence for this part sister ..., and thank you.
Fan of this song <3
Álainn, greetings from Nicaragua!!
Very interesting visual solution for this beautiful song. Thanks Julie!
I love creativity Julie Fowlis, beautiful song, as the others
Thanks from Russia :)
These Tales from across the pond are more than they seem, there is a truth in it that can only be found in a dream in the child's mind, be it old or young.
