Julia Jacklin - Head Alone Lyrics

Give me a full length mirror
So I can see the whole picture
My head alone gives nothing away
'Cause I could stand on a chair
Put it back by the table before you get there
My head alone doesn't know how to say

I don't want to be touched all the time
I raised my body up to be mine

He said give me another drink
You know its easier to talk
When you don't have to think
Well my head alone won't do it that way

C'mon give me the room tonight
You know that I told you before that you hold me to tight
And my head alone just wants to say

I don't want to be touched all the time
I raised my body up to be mine
Yeah I don't want to be touched all the time
I raised my body up to be mine

I have your back
More than I have mine
I want you to feel good
All of the time

So I'll say it 'till he understands
You can love somebody without using your hands
Yeah I'll say it 'till he understands
You can love somebody without using your hands

  1. e.... ....

As an ace person, this is both relatable and gorgeous 💚

  2. S.... ....

All in one shot. I hope they didn't have to do too many takes.

  3. D.... B....

I can't get enough of this song at the moment. Love it.

  4. c.... ....

omg i just love this song i found it via spotify thank u ❤️

  5. C.... P....

i kind of relate to this. I’ve always had kind of a submissive attitude towards people I care about and people tended to touch me a lot because they thought they had the right and I was always scared to tell them to stop in fear of it making them not like me but this song makes me feel strong :)

  6. L.... ....

beautiful lyrics everything is beautiful in this song

  7. A.... M....

    FREEDOM!!!

  8. F.... C....

I never get tired to watch this beauty.

  9. C.... ....

I love the historical garments she uses in some of her videos

  10. S.... I....

Wow... the first time I heard this, I only heard the ending. I thought the lyric was "You CAN'T love somebody without using your hands" and that resonated with me. I thought of it in two ways: how a lack of intimacy can kill a relationship when you're deep into one, and "using your hands" as sort of a "put in the work" sort of take. I had it completely backwards. It's a beautiful song but I feel less connected to it now. At least in this point in my life/relationship.

  11. c.... l....

This song is so relatable. I have small children who won’t stop touching me!!!! Haha

  12. O.... W....

The more I listen to this girl's voice the more I realize how beautiful and unique it is.
IMO. JJ is in that same bracket as Norah Jones and Adele ^_^.

    Texture/influences sounds... Candid, unrehearsed . <3

    Yea - I said it :D

  13. R.... o....

I don't want to be touched all the time
I raised my body up to be mine
Yeah I don't want to be touched all the time
I raised my body up to be mine

    I have your back
    More than I have mine
I want you to feel good
    All of the time

So I'll say it 'till he understands
You can love somebody without using your hands
Yeah I'll say it 'till he understands
You can love somebody without using your hands

  17. n.... ....

    The ending is awesome.

  18. b.... b....

New to me - just loved this!

  19. H.... C....

I feel like this song more translates with me in the manner that while I enjoy sex and large amounts of it, I don't want that to just be it because at the end of the day, I like deep conversations just as much. And I've been used and this song sums up most of the relationships I've had in my life. You don't really know me or what I'm capable of, you're only aware of desire. And I hate that but I always let it go.

  20. s.... c....

I really, really needed this song and I’m so glad I found it, it’s getting me through some stuff

  24. M.... B....

This song has been on repeat in my brain for quite some time. Such powerful lyrics and love the tempo change. In the words of Michelle Shocked "Keep on rocking' girl". :)

Gorgeous. Reminiscent of Diane Cluck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S-L8KHsuVw&list=PLyeJWdR-xnTOHUT3xj7NlSl8CkCeWFgcS&index=6

  35. D.... ....

I listened this song in H&M Perú.

  36. t.... ....

    good morning Julia!

  37. i.... ....

    Spectacular. \m/

  38. T.... H....

The awkward moment when your new favourite song is a feminist anthem..

Great lyrics. It’s amazing how songs can teach you what you’re doing wrong in your life

    T.... H....

First of all: why would be awkward? and second: It's not about feminism, Julia has said in many interviews that she's only writing and singing her songs about her own feelings and the experiences of her life that are important to her for expressing through music, like men also do too and nobody starts a conversation about that... 'I get sick of the fact that whenever a woman speaks about their experiences, it’s labelled political and radical' , so she's not trying to teach you anything actually and yes it's a great song.

    T.... H....

    For real lol shut upp

    T.... H....

Bate B. I think you read a little bit too much into the comment, maybe the person is a feminist and found this song similar to what they believe in. Maybe they are a man and finds it ironic that their new favorite song is about a woman feeling empowered and independent. It doesn’t necessarily mean they were being purposely negative about Julia’s song.

    T.... H....

*_vanessa_* why would it be ironic for a man to like a song about an empowered woman

  39. S.... M....

What a voice. This song is a precious gem.

  40. s.... m....

I needed to hear this right now. I thought something was wrong with me because I wasn't ready to share my body so quickly. That run to freedom is powerful ❤

  41. G.... T....

    Beautiful.. says it all

  42. B.... N....

This is what makes music, music.

  43. J.... C....

    The lyric:
'cause I could stand on a chair
Put it back by the table before you get there...
...is so dark but so fucking fantastic all at the same time. This woman is really remarkable.

    J.... C....

I don't think it's about suicide. My immediate thought was what I and my female friends do/did when we were younger and less confident, when there is no full length mirror. You find something to stand on to see yourself in the shoulder height mirror and check that you look acceptable, then you hide that you checked.

    J.... C....

@Rosie Eldridge Ah okay that's an interesting take. Well I wouldn't really know about that, nor getting more confident as you get older. Didn't really happen for me. Personally I tend to avoid mirrors as much as I can - they're very unhelpful. But anyway... I suppose it's all open to interpretation like all music/lyrics are. Whatever it means though, it's marvellous :-)

  44. T.... B....

The smile and warmth I experienced when she started running. It felt so safe en free

  45. T.... W....

  46. N.... N....

    those lyrics tho

  47. k.... ....

what is the last word in this song? i know sources say it's "hands", but i kinda think that "head" makes sense too (whatever the word is this song is exceptional)

  48. A.... G....

    I LOVED THIS

  49. B.... R....

So she doesnt want to be in a relationship? Hard to love someone who wants to be alone.

  50. c.... t....

    Sounds like The Seekers! 👍

  51. D.... W....

I love EVERYTHING about this. Great work Julia x

  52. d.... ....

People in the neighborhood: Jules is at it again

  53. J.... W....

This reminds me how traumatizing it is to turn 18 as a female in America who is trusting and unsuspecting of the type of males America produces. I was not prepared by anyone to be "legal age" (where it's legal to sexually prey on, abuse the trust of, and sexually assault trusting unsuspecting females whom aren't sexualizing themselves or others). Nobody prepared me for the normalcy of domestic terrorism (novelty dehumanization) against anyone with a vagina. And this country is dumb enough to believe that something allowed to become normal makes it human nature - objectification is NOT human nature, dehumanizing is NOT human nature. Touching people without their permission (or wanting to) or wanting to do things TO them while they're unsuspecting without permission is NOT human nature. Sexual exploitation is NOT human nature - this is intentionally created to demoralize a populace for easier control. The more unhealthy and divided a populace is, the easier they are to rape of human rights and brainwash. When you're each other's enemies, your common enemies hide in plain site much easier - such as the secret societies behind Wall-street whom own the federal reserve (IE Rockefeller) and puppeteer the illusion of government for the perceived-as-country but filed-as-corporation-under-the-name "America" tax farm/human factory farm. That's corporate america for ya. "A country reveals itself by the type of men it produces." - John F. Kennedy (and JFK, by the way, also warned the entire american populace of these secret societies wishing to "enslave every man, woman, and child," as he "intend(ed) to expose this plot," before being assassinated by them just like president Lincoln). "Any society willing to give up its liberty for security will deserve neither and lose both." - Thomas Jefferson speaking about the false flag attacks to make populations give up freedom for false security from those who created the attacks (something that's repeated throughout centuries and centuries of history by the most powerful families known as the global banking cartel and the Committee of 300 and so on).

  54. d.... ....

...and keep on running babe... so good

  55. T.... H....

Love her voice. She's the Queen of Australia. Fo sure. 👌

  56. E.... M....

    obsessed

  57. M.... M....

    Lovely the singing.

  58. K.... B....

    Everything is magical

  59. I.... .....

I’ve been obsessed with this song for a month. I can’t wait for the new album to come out !!!

  60. a.... ....

The clever thing in this video is the slow motion running and jumping that doesn't apply to the words Julia is singing "in real time". I wonder how many takes it took to synchronise...or am I missing something?

    a.... ....

Which parts do you think don't apply? The way they'll do this is play the song sped up for the artist to lip sync to, then slow down the replay for the video. If you play it at 1.5x speed you'll also hear a new song :)

  61. M.... J....

    Gorgeous Song
