Judy Collins - Amazing Grace Lyrics

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now can see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my Fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

And when we've been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We'll have no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we first begun.

I'm not even religious but this has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. Collins vocals are angelic and the harmonies with the Choir are sublime.

    Alan Jay

American founding of a country that is about individual freedom. We love it...….our Christian founding.

@Alan Jay Sorry the founding of our country was not based in Christianity. Most of the founders were Deists, meaning ecumenical, having the freedom to believe what you want to believe without imposing on others and certainly not mixing it with the affairs of the state. You can be spiritual without espousing religion and this is what our founders wrote in the First Amendment.

    Alan Jay

@samsbro1952 Read the original state Constitutions of the 13 colonies. Then research the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Then research the Danbury Baptist church Thomas Jefferson. All the men at the Constitutional convention were Christians. Thomas Jefferson was a Deist which meant he believed in God but believed God put everything in motion and doesn't interact with humanity. He went to church every Sunday and was active in the church. Separation of Church and State is nowhere to be found in the Constitution. The government is restricted from interfering with religion and the free practice thereof. Nobody can check their beliefs at the door of any public institution or as a politician. That is impossible. Do more research. I could tell you about Charles Thompson but you wouldn't even know who he is.

If i could ever show my true emotions i would be crying such a beautiful song

    randy moyan

Feel free to do so friend. I was tearing up after listening to this beautiful song.
You'll feel so much better letting go of your feelings. It's so freeing.
This the first time I have ever heard Judy Collins version of this song and I'm in a state of stunned disbelief of how beautiful this song is. It's ethereal.

    Derpy Derp

@randy moyan even so it's just not possible for me to let me emotions free after all my emotional pain i'm just a broken shell of the person i used to be. When you're forced to abandon all friends and family and can't face all your previous memories cause it'll just break you again that's when you know it's too late and that depression has consumed you and that the only thing you know anymore is that you've got an insurmountable wall of pain ahead of you that's my life

Judy Collins recorded Amazing Grace like no other, and The Pipes, Drums And Military Band Of The Royal Scots Dragoon Guard is closely behind, and their version reached number 1 in the UK charts around 1972. The rest? Not very much difference really, just in my opinion those two, Judy Collins and also The Royal Scots Dragoon Guard did Amazing Grace full justice.

My adoptive grandparents made me sing this as a child. They had a tea towel with the lyrics to amazing grace and would make me sing the song. It my future years i never knew how relevant this song would become to me. Please pray for me. Peace to all.

My account of my words would be judicious reactions to this stupid world of people seeking solace in nonsense. Don’t try and outthink me. Listen to Dawkins and Hitchens.

  37. hyun ahn

I'm listening to this in honor of a family friend who passed Today. My mother received a phone call another close friend of his to inform her of his passing. She then told me, and I couldn't believe it. He was only in his 40s. Now, I'm just asking God 'Why?' Why must he have to pass away now? He had a whole life still ahead of him. He was always a nice guy. Comes up to us and says 'Hi' and 'How we're doing'. We'll Miss You, Mr. Bae. 😔

  62. Douglas Crosby

Beautiful hymn of the Christian faith, maybe the most well-known song in all the world.
But the great question is does this hippie actually believe what she singing, I hope so.
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved"

    Rhett Rineheart

Douglas Crosby kinda disrespectful just to write her off as just a hippie

    Douglas Crosby

@Rhett Rineheart it was a general statement, my sister as a hippie flower child burned her brains out on drugs.
It was a bad movement, I thank God for amazing Grace.

  63. Karl Anderson

I was blind but now I’m stupid too.

  68. Laurie Duplantis

This song always brings me to tears. It was my father's favorite hymn and it always made him cry because it was his mother's favorite. They are both long gone from this world yet this tune always makes me cry for missing them. One day when we are all together again, it will only make us smile.

Bless you Laurie, the love you have for your parents will be rewarded when you see them again x

  69. Aimee Dionne Noble

Is there a video of Judy WITHOUT the chorus???

    Shield's Luck

Don't know for sure. But there's one with a quieter chorus:
JUDY COLLINS "Amazing Grace" with the Boston Pops Orchestra 1976

    However, the SOUND ... it's a crime!

  86. Gerald Edelstein

    "The Best"!

  87. Daniel Ichbiah

Arlo Guthrie performed Amazing Grace at Woodstock in 1969 This version of Amazing Grace - on guitar is derived the record : Every picture tells a story. Visit http://danic.video/amazing-grace

  88. Friedemann Kindt

I may be an atheist but i still stand in awe of beauties like this one. Religion is a big part of our history, and even though i think it's just outdated morals long surpassed by modern ethics and humanism, to learn our past religion is as good a place to start as any.
    Breathtakingly beautiful song anyhow ^^

  89. kathy

I remember listening to this song on Windsor Worsips CKWW on AM 580 out of Windsor / Detroit every Sunday Morning when my Father took me to Sunday School.
This song strikes deep into the Heart and Soul.
God Bless Judy Collins and Everyone who made this recording possible.
