Nadiya, I know what you mean. If you look into any Theology of the body, you know that we clothe the body because of it's great dignity and worth. Many theology of the body authors compare woman veiling themselves as God veiled himself in Jesus. In the old testament God only revealed himself to a select few (mainly the high priests,) woman too, is called to reveal herself to only a select few (namely, her Husband, and maybe doctors and family depending on age and health.) The beauty of a woman is veiled because it's too beautiful and sacred to be exposed to anyone undeserving.

I think it's harder as a Christian artist to express something freely and visually without offending others. There is a lot of provocative imagery and ideas brought about in the Bible but I feel like there's this extra level of censorship with Christian music and art/ or just a known Christian artist to be PG, family friendly, universal, easy to take and kinda cliche (e.g. Hacksaw Ridge being accused by some of the public of not really being a Christian movie because of the amount of blood splatter and profanity it contain.) What I really hated in a lot of especially older Christian films was how careful and censored everything is, when really there is just so much more depth in the Christian life and just in who/how we are as people.

I get where you might be coming from but in the context of the song and music video her nudity more appears to be a symbol for humanity, vulnerability, rawness etc. People tore their clothes in the Old Testament in mourning and when needing to be in a position of humility. The woman caught in adultery was probably dragged naked before Jesus. It's how you come into the world and in a sense is also how you come out of it.

It's a very personal music video about self-love, self-appreciation, and self-awareness, abstracted from the rest of the world as if she is singing about all women. I don't think it's a video necessarily targeted for Christians but I don't think you can see any really big turn she's made with her beliefs.

OK, I and I think most other Christians get that not everyone believes the same way we do and that some people think visible nudity is something to be celebrated.

Understand that Christians are rather shocked when they click on a video from someone who was once a wholesome Christian artist and find her singing self-worshiping lyrics while lying on the floor, completely naked, writhing erotically. They might be a little bit horrified just because they grew up on Joy Williams' completely kid-friendly religious music and thought that this would always be "that kind of channel".

I am not going to judge you for your difference in opinion, but I suggest you give the song a hear even if the video seems distasteful. There's nothing unChristian about the music atleast! Joy Williams' new album seems more socially aware than ever and she's trying to make a difference with her art. I hope you will see that too.

self worshiping lyrics? writhing erotically? did you even watch the video or listen to the lyrics? nudity is not inherently sexual. moving while naked is not inherently erotic. if you watch this video and get turned on by her bare skin, then that's on you. she shows less nudity, lying naked on the ground, than i've seen in a beer commercial full of bikini clad women. this is artistic, and poignant, and if you're too wrapped up in your own shame about the human body, then i'm sorry you're missing out. can you not look at classical paintings and sculpture either? because the david is too erotic? how much nudity has been portrayed in historical christian art, and is all of that erotic to you also? i wouldn't be surprised if joy's christian background is what lead her to sing about shedding the blame and shame placed on women.

Phenomenal this song gives me life. Great song to run to before starting the day... I personally don't think anything about this video is negative or clichè however when I'm working out to this song with my eyes close(treadmill not outdoors) I envision her in a white flowing dress dancing in a meadow or the woods during maybe a sunset like the goddess she is🌠

Very few songs have kept me hitting repeat over and over and not getting old. I love the emotion and meaning within it, how Joy tries to put words to what a woman is - how she tries to simplify a woman into such simple things as words. I also like how she carefully chose the 'nude' scenes - to show what a woman is without being sexual or disrespective of other women. That takes courage!

While the lyrics are fairly simplistic from a technical point of view, they do wonders to the meaning and soul of this song! I've heard songs similar in composition with repeating lyrics and this one stands out. She not simply repeating the phrase - each usage is unique.

And to all the..."people"...calling Joy a whore, I find it curious you think you are worthy even posting the comment, let alone call her such a disgusting and misused term. Think before you post.

I love this song. I dance and dance. This song gives me chills. My coworker had this on our playlist at work. The initial bit would have me jam out a bit. When I finally heard the words I began to cry. I'm not familiar with this artist or her previous work, I just know what moves me. This song has been added to that list.

Beautiful. The lyrics are so simple, yet so powerful and deep. They touched me. I also got goosebumps all over when she sang "woman rise". The video is amazing, but a few parts lack flow.
Her stuff in the Hunger Games was awesome, though. Safe & Sound (!!!) is one of my favorite songs, it's absolute perfection, and Kingdom Come made me cry too. She should collab with Taylor Swift again.
Not to mention John Paul White! Joy's fantastic on her own, but why did the Civil Wars break up? Their harmony was flawless.

I do not have enough words to describe how good is to listen to this song.

As a person who grew up listening to Joy Williams music I am so disappointed with her "change in worldview."  Complete 180 in the wrong direction.  I don't understand how someone can go from singing about God to being naked in a video. Like there aren't other ways to be creative/artistic?  I also don't understand how any husband would be ok with their wife being naked for the world to see!  Obviously letting her skills and art to be used by the Devil just like Katy Perry. I don't know what their personal relationship is like with God but I hope they both realize that a relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important thing in life. They are both knowledgeable on what the Bible says. This is simply my opinion on the video and I won't be surprised if I'm in the minority.
