The song "Novelty" will always feel to me like a nostalgia of cheating, the beauty of the world, 60's & 70's deppression and nostalgia of Ian Curtis. Im 100% British girl and I cry everyday after band Joy Division especially Ian Curits. Ian had such a hard life with his wife, secret lover Annik Honoré and obviously epilepsy. Im crying so hard everyday after them and I hope Ian Curtis is in heaven now.....

Unlike most people listening to JD now I did see them live twice at the Russell Club in Moss-Side in 1978. This is probably my favourite Joy Division track, heard live once. Absolutely shit video.  It was nothing like this at the time.

The first seizure was a novelty...But the novelty wore off as we lost control,again an again....

This is one of the most highly underrated songs from JD. It breaks my heart how miserable Ian was battling his epilepsy, the serious side effects of his medication, his failing marriage, affair, and his mental health but also tried so hard to please everyone at gigs and in the studio. I wish he was still alive but I’ve come to the realization that he didn’t have much of a choice with his life. It was either his epilepsy take him or just abruptly end his life.

Too many epilepsy drugs for Ian, why did someone not fill him with cannabis and burn his pills

Because this was late 70s/1980. Lack of research and knowledge of epilepsy and the effects of marijuana

One of the best songs i have ever heard so far. The video works brilliantly with the song and is very emotional. This song is so under rated

It was my favorite joy division track early on discovering punk and what was waiting around the corner w post punk like this and echo and the bunnymen, psychedelic furs, but Ian's lyrics are the best, I liked all his poems in 'touching from a distance', his way w words is tough to beat

Was an original fan. A  cult band then that were about to go "mega" . But like the equally brilliant Velvet  Underground they are much bigger now than in their heyday.

just found out that that song was actually written by peter hook in early days of the band....the lyrics are kinda different from ians.
