Joy Division - Leaders Of Men Lyrics
Born from some mother's womb,
Just like any other room.
Made a promise for a new life.
Made a victim out of your life.
And it drips to the floor,
And you feel you can touch,
All the noise is too much,
And the seeds that are sown,
Are no longer your own.
Just a minor operation,
To force a final ultimatum.
Thousand words are spoken loud,
Reach the dumb to fool the crowd.
When you walk down the street,
And the sound's not so sweet,
And you wish you could hide,
Maybe go for a ride,
To some peep show arcade,
Where the future's not made.
A nightmare situation,
Infiltrate imagination,
Smacks of past Holy wars,
By the wall with broken laws.
The leaders of men,
Born out of your frustration.
The leaders of men,
Just a strange infatuation.
The leaders of men,
Made a promise for a new life.
No saviour for our sakes,
To twist the internees of hate,
Self induced manipulation,
To crush all thoughts of mass salvation.

I know this isn't the original album cover but still it's very provocative and thought provoking, love it!
This is one of the easiest and more badass bass lines ever
wish he'd stayed around to see his profound impact not just on music but many other areas of culture!!!!
Thought this was Minor Threat In My Eyes for a second
sonic youth should have done a version
The most prominent and last UK band
2:14 I love the guitar here so much.
59 douchbags live
It might be my imagination, but I'm hearing a bit of "you're lost little girl" by The Doors during the last 20 seconds of this song. Which would make sense, Ian was a big fan of Jim Morrison.
sounds like lou reed vicious in some parts
The musical arrangements at 2:13 for the outro are beautiful.
Do you know about Greg Sage & The Wipers?
That part always gets me
Fxxxing magnificenT Manchester So much too answer for

What happened to the bass-baritone voice?
It comes later
This is before the baritone vocal came later
Not Ian Curtis
It is, it's when they called themselves Warsaw, Ian did higher pitched vocals.
Ians vocals
Ian has a unique voice.I love it.
This is rawww

the comments on this go a pretty long way in proving that nazis are the dumbest people on the earth- i mean, every lyric of the song describes how despicable nationalism is and how fascism is just a way for a dictator to forge himself a throne out of everyone elses skulls, and then you have ivy league geniuses in the comments going "heil!"
>imagine being this deluded that you think only nazis fall for demagogue and populistic rethorics
LMAO brainlet
Obviously about fascism and Nazis I'm fascinated but definitely not a Nazi or a fascist
Love Ian's voice on this song
is this sumner or curtis singing
Ian Curtis
Too good for ears.

No wonder people think I`m weird.
Hail Peter Hook, Legendary Bassist
Roadkill I thought I was the only one that loved that fucking bass line 🤙🏽

Very UK Decayish.
K, love me some Joy Division. And I dig this tune , but never ever thought I would heard somebody use the word "best" within a 5 mile radius of this recording :) .
THIS SINGLE USHERED IN THE REAL JOY DIVISION SOUND... BRILLIANT LYRICS AND MUSIC... WHY DID IAN HAVE TO LEAVE US? I CAN ONLY IMAGINE IF HE HAD DECIDED TO LIVE, WHAT JOY DIVISION WOULD HAVE BECOME WITH 4 MAJOR SONGWRITERS IN ONE BAND; IAN, BERNARD, PETER AND STEPHEN
je vends mon 12 "pour 75 euros
"The bigger the state, the smaller the citizen." -- Dennis Prager.
Peter Hook totally ruling on bass...most underrated bassist in the history of Music
Wow listening to tunes I ain't heard for so long, tunes dat mesmerized my soul they spoke for me total gratitude. Never saw them live yet Joy Division are live.

Sister ray.
About half of this song sounds just like the pre-chorus of "Queen Bitch"....
Absolutely outstanding 👌🏻
Keep coming back to this after all these years!!
This song it´s about about juice...
This is heavier and better than any modern metal punk or rock and it combines all three and shits over the competition. Best band prob ever contrived. Rip Ian
Bass in Joy Division is Special and Different...
Intuitive, or instinctive
OHHH JOY DIVISION...
tha voices its so depressed and perfect
but the warsaw version are better with more happy screams
this song is freaking epic... like its bass line
This doesn't sound like Ian was this made after he died?
It is Ian on vocals. This is from the "An ideal for living" EP which was released in 1978 before their proper debut album.
THE 1ST PERFECTLY PUT TOGETHER JOY DIVISION SONG!
23 souls don't understand music

"the leaders of men, born out of your frustration. the leaders of men, just a strange infatuation. the leaders of men made a promise for a new life."
@Dave P Under the GOP or under the "Affordable" Care Act? (Interesting to note that not a single Republican voted for Obamacare. Anyone with a shred of economic sense would have rejected it as well.)
@Em Jay Enn
Pre-ACA: as I said, costs have risen slower under Obama. The biggest increase in the burden of healthcare costs occurred under Republican Administrations from the 1980s to the 2000s pretty much the diametrical opposite of your depiction.
@Dave P The fact that "costs have risen slower under Obama" does not absolve Obama, or his party, or the "Affordable" Care Act.
The monthly premiums of MOST Americans have skyrocketed. You ignore this because you're too busy talking about what Republicans did in the fucking 1980s (assuming that they even caused what you claim they cause, which you never proved).
The "Affordable" Care Act has been an costly and unconstitutional disaster from Day 1, and it was intended to be, all in the manic quest to thrust single payer down the collective throats of American tax payers.
très bon titre
je ne savais pas que le 45 tour original pouvait encore s'acheter
Your playlist rocks man ,Big Time ! You've made my day.
so good
Tu changes avec tes tripes et tu nous a révélé ton âme. ...merci Ian...on t'oublie pas....
Haven't heard this song in a long while. Joy Division for the win!!!!
This single on vinyl is going for 2500 pounds in London record store
Bee ridiculum
Now this is real poetry. And yet bands with stupid asinine lyrics are the ones that become the most popular. Mindless lyrics for mindless people. Ian Curtis was such a huge loss.
@Anonymous Duckling yeah I do agree with you.
Anyone with something meaningful to say is a loss these days. Where did all the poets go?
@Simon all of them are hidden from outside world. Apparently because, the world is a cruel place nowadays.........
@ZɪᴍUɴᴋɴᴏᴡɴ But that's exactly the times when you need these people to speak up. Someone needs to step up i mean i wont do it but.... Wait a minute. Ok, i see it now.
@Simon people are materialistic nowadays..........
Hi folks!
This song is really great!
In few days, I will be putting a cover version we have made!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY IAN 15-JUL-1956
love Peter Hook as a bass player
I wonder if it was The Killers. They covered "Shadowplay."
Wow the bass line is amazing
Only one word applies to this. Sieg!
Your mother.
Joy divison fans get really mad when anyone calls them anything short of pure genius. Get over it guys it's just music. Those of us that understand and appreciate it don't need the rest of the world to tell us it's good to enjoy it. Unfortunately not everyone is able to understand the perfection that is Joy divison, but that shouldn't bother you. Just listen to it and be thankful that you "get it"
I am always suspicious to those who call anything they hear from JD "f.cking genius". The mere expression is f.cking stupid and points to very poor musical culture.
'Born from some mothers womb
Just like any other room
Made a promise for a new life
Made a victim out of your life'
It IS one of their best songs! The first EP is surprisingly good.
whos jealos of my acount name?
Your Momma?
