Journey - Higher Place Lyrics

So I think I got it all in place now
No distractions under control
Yet there's something missing inside me
I'm chasing shadows of myself
And the clocks are ticking
My world is spinning
Spinning 'round and 'round
And 'round and 'round again

[Chorus:]
And I try
I try to reason why
Don't you know I can't go on this way
Baby please don't walk away there is this place
Where I toss away my pride
So you can see that I'm the one
To take you to a higher place this time

I am on the outside looking in
To a place where I will be
Let me give you what you need from me
I surrender my soul to you
And my heart is pounding
And my head is spinning, 'round and 'round again

[Chorus]

I crash: and burn inside my mind
It happens time and time again, I can't explain
The way you make me feel
I know: I don't have much to give
But what I have I give to you with all the madness
Left inside of me... oh
With the madness left inside of me... oh

[Chorus]

This period post Perry was their best effort to make new music, sadly they couldn’t or didn’t stick with Augeri. Pineda has a voice but as a vocalist for original material it wasn’t there. Wether it was the song writing\ vocals that didn’t connect or whatever they never reached a point where I wanted more. Arnel has a great voice no doubt, but as for original Journey sound it never connected in my opinion!

  2. J.... H....

Was at this tour when they introduced this song and Augeri and drummer did a BANG UP JOB with this song!!! One of my favorites that I listen to almost daily! Next to Steve Perry, Agueri was the only ever BEST for Journey as lead singer!!! Seen them in concert over dozen times since Perry left and I, along with many other Journey fans..don't attend concerts anyone since Augeri left as been to with new Phillipines guy and just not the same....so bye bye Journey....me and many others will just stick with songs of Perry and Augeri! The only BEST of Journey!

  3. T.... ....

With Augerie Journey could have had a great 90s era if their post perry music took off like it should have.

  4. J.... K....

Fantastic song great vibe. Just musicians enjoying the music world 🤙

  5. S.... T....

Love this version - Castronovo beating shit outta those drums and signing the high harmonies too - awesome, Augeri's vocals great, and loved what Schon was doing at the time experimenting with Dropped-D tuning and Sustainers - brilliant track and one of my journey favs.

  6. E.... B....

Guitar...good...bass...good...drums...good...keyboard...good...vocals...good! Holy shit what a great tune!

  7. j.... P....

    Journey always got fantastic singers.
Perry gave the right way and tone, and the others followed him in a very good way with honor.

  8. Y.... V....

almost everyone has lost their voices and such excellent singers

  9. Y.... V....

who in December 2019, I will not get tired of hearing them 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

  10. Y.... V....

  12. A.... T....

Best Post Steve Perry era song.

  13. D.... P....

Journey with Steve Augeri was awesome with some of the best journey songs and all of them refreshing and unique.

  14. a.... ....

I saw this line up several times and thought Auger nailed each show as well as doing some of the best Journey songs post Perry. This is a great tune.

  15. P.... K....

This entire album was under rated.

  16. D.... Z....

Holy shit! They were so damn good!! Steve Augeri and Deen Castronovo both on vocals, they really nailed it! Deen is Mr. Groove in person! Cool stuff! Love it!

  17. B.... G....

Neal guitar tracks in this song are the stitching that weaves the song.

  18. S.... M....

    Ain’t no Steve Perry😐

  19. S.... ....

I miss this guy on lead vocals, he put so much more heart and soul into his singing. Too bad his voice blew out. Kuddos to Arnel, but he just doesn't have the soul in his voice.

  20. S.... ....

Yeah yeah right stop the comments about Augeri and Steve Perry, just enjoy this amazing fucking song and pay attention to some interesting things that happened on this video, like for example Neal had sound troubles with the guitar during the entire song. Ross asking what was going on, and Deen don't giving a shit and playing as loud as he could cause... you know... drummers xD.

  21. W.... ....

One of the best post 1990's Journey songs out there.

  22. M.... J....

    Steve Augeri ❤️

  23. e.... ....

What a great song...You know, that drummer could be really good if he just practiced a little more!😉

  24. e.... ....

The drums, the guitar, the keyboard and the vocals come together so great...I dig this Journey song!!

  25. M.... J....

Deen with sooo much passion! I love Augeri’s dancing. So poised

  26. S.... ....

4:56 Neal Schon "Put me the fuck higher man!! can't listen my awesome guitar solo"" hahahaha

  27. E.... H....

    Dean sings pretty good too.

  28. E.... H....

Steve was the best. But several have kept Journey alive. Thanks guys for great music.

  29. w.... ....

I think that term replace is not necessary in this case...it was a moment of transition.like AC/DC..the music is continuing and sounding great.

  30. R.... R....

    Dean Castronovo...GREAT drummer!!

  31. S.... W....

Oh my Steve A..i have hesitate to buy any Journey album..but the first one i ever pick up is Arrival and i am floored..not only is the vocals good but the excitement i got from the whole album takes me really to a Higher Place. And yes Steve Augeri does comes across as a nice guy which is quite rare from anyone in such a big rock band.🤗

  32. c.... r....

I had the great pleasure of being sung to by this steve, he was the nicest person and i am sure still is. He was an excellent showman and did an excellent job keeping the music going. Instead of arguing about who is better just be grateful they are still together and still rocking whoever is the lead singer. Personally i would take Augeri over Arnel. He is a better showman and singer.

  33. A.... S....

Amazing, Steve Augeri and Deen Castronovo mixed so beautifully in the chorus!!

  34. S.... w....

personally i think steve augeri is excellent, the albums he was on stand up in the journey catalogue.

  35. H.... K....

One of the best Journey songs

  36. c.... l....

Other than Steve Perry, nobody could’ve done better than Steve Augeri

  37. R.... C....

    5 Stars performance!!

  38. D.... B....

    I miss Augeri....class act!

  39. P.... V....

Won"t hear this!!! Where is Steve Perry!!!????

  40. J.... L....

Augeri was great in this song but Castronovo’s backing vocals are amazing. I’ll be the first to admit that I was butt-hurt when this album came out that this was not Steve Perry, but in retrospect this is a great album. Much better than Trial by Fire.

  41. T.... P....

one of the best journey album ever .... specially these songs ''signs of life'' & '' kiss me Softly ''' .... steve got a great vocals
i would say journey is the only whenever they replace the vocalist , they have found a good vocalist again.
journey should record their new album ....
'' kiss me softly '' perfect for late night listening .... Arrival one of the best rock album ever i would say ....

  42. T.... ....

I remember randomly buying this CD in a record store in 2001 (I know, that it is such a dated notion now). As soon as I heard the opening guitars on the first song, this song, I knew it was going to be a classic Journey record. Schon was perhaps at his most creative on this entire album.

  43. A.... G....

Que concierto es y de que año por favor

    A.... G....

Esta en journey behind the music 2001

  44. L.... T....

I know this is an old video but seriously thank you sooo much Steve Augeri for giving your vocals man!

  45. M.... M....

Great song and i agreed Steve Aguri much better rhan Arnel pineda he shoulh have Comtinue . But nobody ever could repkace Steve Parry

  46. S.... D....

Hey everybody, what's up? I just wanted to say that I apologize for some of the bad things that I said about the new singer from journey. I'm sorry. I also wanted to apologize to Steve Perry. Thank you, all of journey for the great music that you have given us through out the years. Your all great and still sexy.

  47. F.... A....

Boa tentativa! O cara canta pra crlo, mas Steve Perry forever

  48. P.... D....

Great song. Love Castronovo's high 5th harmony vocals on the middle 8. Awesome

  49. T.... J....

He looks more gay than steve.

  50. L.... H....

If Steve Perry isn't the voice of Journey why did they always get a singer that sounds like him?? Steve Augeri is really good.

  51. S.... D....

Does anybody know if the new singer from journey, was or is he a girly ballerina dancer? I'm not being mean or hurt any feelings. To each its own right? Just wondering. It's just the way he moves. Lol. Like you anyway. I see that our older. I did say older boys got sexier with age? YES THEY DID. There you go Steve Perry. If you would've waited just a few more years. You might have found a good woman that could remaniss about your rock and roll days. But no. Instead you went cradle rocking. It's a real shame. Don't worry. She'll probably take what you have, and run with it. Hold on, and run, and run, one more time k. And run run. Lol. I'm so sorry. Shit, if you got an older woman. This way she couldn't run. Especially when she is suffering from arthritis, and a bad back and knees. Really. What were you thinking about. At least you and the older women can sit at the dinner table licking your teeth together. After each meal. Don't forget your insure. Lol.

  52. S.... D....

Wow. The old boys are still looking yummy. Neil keep biting that lip. I'm sorry to the piano player. Looking buffed. Bass looking good. Drums, slow down on the adderall. Lol. Journey singer. Don't forget. Journey is our band. Remember that your not Steve Perry. I love this song. Don't get too cocky.

  53. T.... M....

By this time the JRNY sound had become dated sorta plowing the same ol' ground. They really needed Steve Perry to move the JRNY sound in a new direction at that time. Great effort but pretty basic melody & chord progession.

  54. o.... m....

Deen is great on this song.. Backing vocal n drumming.. Superb

  55. J.... B....

    This is music.

  56. E.... J....

I like Deen Castronovo Awesome 🥁

  57. F.... D....

    YEAHHH!!! Den Castronovo rock on!!!!

  58. P.... W....

Trust, Steve augeri went on to make more money withe the STEVE AUGERI BAND!WHICH SOUNDS GREAT!THANKS SCHON!

  59. H.... ....

Steve Augeri was the best Journey frontman ever!

  60. G.... D....

I think he is good, but I also think it is boring performance. No audience impact tho.😧 I'm just being honest..😁

  61. B.... V....

I am the biggest Perry fan ever but this song belongs on Journeys Greatest hits or on the Essential Journey CDs! Had this been a different band or different name this song could easily been on the charts and it's a shame it didn't get major radio play! This belongs right along side When You Love A Woman as far as being a newer song that belongs up there with their best!

  62. v.... ....

    Fillipino..ok..ist ja gut

  63. v.... ....

Allthough this new kid i must say gives it all live in concerts..hats off

  64. v.... ....

One thing from me..never big fun of them..but..once i became from a friend a gift..this concert right there dvd..afterwards i searched for them..perry top no question..but he was also top..and cool..very of a frontman..the tayland boy most close to perry of all the others..in vocal..but on the stage no comparison

  65. o.... m....

Deen Castronovo, superb, drumming and singing all the way!! Just maestro can do it with double concentration.

  66. m.... c....

    Why was he replaced?

  67. M.... N....

He was is great better then arnel

  68. M.... D....

    thumbs down on this chit.

  69. f.... w....

    good song.. excellent voice!

  70. E.... H....

very good rendition of this piece by Steve Augeri..but rather  listen to the one and only SP..

  71. J.... L....

I think when this album came out I was still too bitter about the departure of Steve Perry so didn’t give this album a chance. I’ve recently rediscovered this and think it’s really an excellent compilation of Journey songs. Much more so than Trial by Fire. Nothing against Steve Augieri as he was a fantastic lead post Perry and Castronovo on drums and vocals was killer, but I couldn’t help but wondering how great Steve Perry would have sounded on these songs.

  72. Z.... ....

    Sounds like Survivor, not Journey....

  73. C.... R....

Augueri´s voice is original, Arnel is a fantastic copy of GOD Perry. This song is amazing.

  74. F.... ....

"We'd like to do something new..." and folks head off to the bathrooms.

  75. g.... a....

Had Augeri not lost his voice in 2006, he would be the lead singer of Journey today

  76. S.... K....

    This is my jam!

  77. u.... ....

Why did journey get rid of this guy.....he was good....

  78. R.... M....

Castronovo great work on vocals too.

  79. R.... r....

Wow This was the guy they could’ve written a ton more hits with.

  80. l.... ....

    This song rocks

  81. P.... W....

Steve was good! Game changer now that Steve P. Is back!!!

  82. K.... B....

    More old more hot 😍😍❤

  83. S.... K....

One thing I didn't like was Journey should've included Augeri and Deen Castronovo when journey got into RNR hall of fame. Deen was the longest drummer for journey and Steve Augeri kept the dream alive

  84. T.... C....

    Great singer !!! In the 80s he'd be a superstar !!!

  85. D.... M....

    La mejor bateria!

  86. B.... 1....

This song definitely has the journey vibe

  87. J.... C....

    Little "Yes/Sting" Journey Sound !

  88. J.... C....

Neal you might just be even a bit better than my brother Warren Cuccurullo!!

  89. D.... V....

I was in Scotland when This Cd was release, and I played in my car in those roads, listening this song. Amazing song connected with extraordinary experience. Highlands = Higher Place.

  90. a.... ....

Other than Deen Augeri was the best singer post Perry. He was a great front man who fit the Journey mold established by Perry.

  91. T.... F....

    I love this song

  92. b.... ....

no one can replace perry, but I love augeri - they should have kept him.

  93. T.... K....

I saw them with Steve Augeri in Seattle before they even went into the studio to record this album... I think they did that just to see how the fans would react to him and test the waters so to speak... He was really great that night doing all the oldies... I saw them from the 7th row sitting right in front of Neal that night... We saw this tour with him at the gorge in George, WA with Peter Frampton and John Waite opening the show... I was supposed to have seen him again during the Generations tour but was replaced by Jeff Scott Soto midway through the tour because of vocal problems... The Journey web site even changed it to read the Soto was the new lead singer but that didn't last long for whatever reason... By the end of the tour he was gone also... Of course I saw every tour with Steve Perry in Seattle from the Evolution album all the way through the Raised On Radio album as well...

  94. C.... A....

No Steve Perry just a cheap imitation. No one can replace the Voice.

  95. J.... T....

I really loved Steve Augeri as Journey's singer. Arnel sounds too much like Steve Perry that it's really weird. Augeri had a similar voice but he wasn't trying to imitate Perry, he gave something different to the sound of Journey.

  96. O.... ....

Guys, I don't see a point in spamming all the Journey videos with opinions on who was the best: Perry, Augeri or Arnel. Don't you realise that this song embodies the true spirit of Journey like no other? Let me explain: I am talking about Journey's logo: scarab beetle. I don't know who chose it to be the band's logo but he couldn't have chosen better. In ancient Egypt scarab beetle was a symbol of a worker, rolling a turd ball for eternity. But at some point he would spread his wings and become one of the incarnations of god Amon. To put it simply, there would come a moment that this little fella would realise that he is destined to do things greater than rolling a turd ball for eternity, he would spread his wings and fly trying to reach his dreams. He was a symbol of hope for simple people; hope that one day they would be also able to abandon their miserable lifes and reach the sun. And that's what this song is about: a man who lives a quiet boring life, who at some point realises that this isn't the way he's supposed to live because perhaps there are greater things awaiting him and sets off on his own journey to find a Higher Place. And this is what many other Journey songs are about, this is what this whole band has always been about: hope for a better life and chasing your dreams. Oh wow, wasn't that a long comment. Hope someone will read it

  97. T.... ....

Steve Augeri did a great job on this song but we will always wonder how awesome it would of been if Steve Perry was singing it!!
