It's basically "Cause the difference is" because if you listen to the sentence; "Broken heartedness, all this emptiness, cause the difference is, between us wont improve" and it means the difference is that they wont improve. Get it now? Haha. Glad you said this cause I wanted to point it out myself.

if you're all wondering what's up with the vast amount of german comments lately - we were essentially having a discussion whether there's a mistake in the lyrics or not: we're quite sure that it's rather "cause the differencES" than "cause the difference is" at 0:16 - because the way the sentence is written in the video ( and as well on all lyrics web sites) sounds kinda awkward to us - would someone like to clear things up for us ? :)

"das, was zwischen uns ist") - "denn der unterschied ist, dass das zwischen uns sich nicht verbessert" macht ja an sich grammatikalisch (noch) sinn - ist aber im kontext dann fatal, denn warum auf einmal mit "aber der unterschied ist..." anfangen, wenn man nicht vorher gemeinsamkeiten/positive dinge o.ä angesprochen hatte ^.^
