I do like this song A lot it really grabs me, and I've got it worked up to play on guitar fairly well but I just can't nail the last 40 seconds or so. I worry that the Theology of the words of this song is not accurate, and I think that's why I can't make myself lacking in the end of the song so that I can do it.

My problem with this song is that I think the song is suggesting that getting baptized makes you whiter than snow and saved you. Which is absolutely not scriptural. If baptism was a requirement for salvation then how do you explain the thief on the cross who was told by Jesus today you will be with me in Paradise. How did the thief on the cross manage to get baptized when he died on that cross next to Jesus. Sure some people could say Jesus is Jesus he can waive the baptism requirement. But I don't think that's the least bit accurate I mean Jesus is Jesus and he can do whatever he wants. But the Bible never says that baptism is a requirement for salvation. The only thing that's required for salvation is exactly what the thief on the cross did which was look to Jesus and say Remember Me In Your Kingdom.

Please offer up constructive rebuttals rather than just calling me a Hardline Bible only Bible thumping Jesus Freak.

In just so you know I'll be 66 in September so it's not like I'm young and stupid although I could be old and stupid. I just know what I think I know and the song gives me that little bit of a problem. If he's talking about the river of water flowing River of Life the Jesus was talking about with the woman at the well, then the song has some validity and its theology but if it's simply saying let's go down to the river get you baptized and you'll be on your way to heaven. That's just not right.

@Christian C Yes. I've transitioned over in the last 6 years to old style gospel music. Gaithers, Gaither Vocal band, the old school quartets.

I pick music for our church and play guitar to accompany the service as we have no keyboard players that attend. I stay pretty close to the Hymnal, probably 90%+.
